Absolutely brutal. Why the heck do you do that when he's got a 60 yarder. Make him kick it in a rush.

Ā

Idiotic. A fireable offense, in my opinion, especially after he due the exact same thing vs the Broncos just 2 weeks ago.

How about knocking the ball loose on the third down play. Ā Well short of the first down to keep the clock running. Ā They would have really needed to rush the kick. Ā Stop clock letā€™s them settle some the we call a time out to give the kicker a few more swipes on the sideline in preparation. Ā

Thats one of the first times in the gameĀ  (and one of the few times this season) where our pass defense did that on a pass despite several possible chances and of course it was the best outcome for Philly! Why because even when we succeed we fail ! because we are the Bills!

In this situation, he should've been thinking ahead to save the timeout for the final 20 seconds. I don't know the exact numbers, but I imagine in most instances the opposing coach will call a TO to ice the kicker, regardless of the fact I don't think statistics bear out its effectiveness.

While it can , rarely, make sense, not here. Not when they have to rush to make a 59 yarder in the rain! Don't give them time to settle down. WTF! Not rocket science here.

It's a joke of a tactic that never works in the NFL, but it's all McDermott's got.Ā  For him, it passes as high level strategery, along with bringing out the offense to run the "hard count" on 4th and 2 from the 50, taking a delay of game, then punting the ball into the end-zone. Loser.Ā  Ā

Iā€™m with you. Ā I get the idea of letting the ball sit there and get wet. Ā But two timeouts and the ball at the 25 with roughly 20 seconds left can definitely get you into FG range. Ā  Might even work with less than 20 seconds. Ā Like, say, 13 seconds.Ā

Can't blame Poyer or the defense for doing what they are supposed to do in that situation.

I honestly was in shock that he did that.Ā
Ā

For one, he was trying ice a clutch kicker rushing out there for a 59 yarder in bad weather. Ā

Ā

Instead they got to take their time and set up the kick operation. Ā
Ā

For two, if he makes it.. 20 seconds and two timeouts gives us a shot. Ā

Just wild how he keeps making a dumpster fire of situations late game.Ā

I think maybe McDermott should be investigated for betting on games..I swear his decisions look like that of a coach who is throwing games from slowing the offense down,to the worst calls defensively at the worst times to starting aged vets over more promising younger players lol

Maybe this works in high school or college but in NFL. Ā WTF was he thinking other than making sure they didnā€™t have 12 on field again. So stupid. If anything, giving a professional more time to mentally prepare, from snap to holder to kicker, helps them. I hate this crap.Ā

We didn't even ice him. Called it early.Ā

But who are we kidding we knew we'd lose.

I thought they would lose pretty much all of the 2nd half .. until I thought Davis was going to win it in OTā€¦ lol šŸ˜‚ Ā when will I learn .. Iā€™ve only been watching this team 40 years ā€¦

I was thinking that too. Heā€™s so stubborn doing the same thing over and over again and it not working.

Usually you ice a kicker after their team calls a timeout to set up the last minute kick. He already had his teamā€™s timeout to prepare and is ready to go. Once theyā€™re lined up and about to snap, you do it.

Ā

You donā€™t ice a kicker whoā€™s rushing in a Mayday situation because his team has no timeouts!

Ā

(Especially when you can use your two timeouts and 20 seconds to get 35 yards to try a long game-winning kick of your own.)

Ā

As usual, McD strategizes like someone who has ā€œbest practicesā€ for how to do things that he follows like a robot, never adjusting his protocols for the deeper nuances of the situation.
