Logic
Thinking they want a usable tight end on the practice squad. To look a little more deeply, perhaps they're aware that blocking is not the strong suit of any of the three tight ends on their roster, and want to have one who IS a blocking specialist, should they feel the need to call him up for a particular week to execute a certain gameplan. Perhaps we'd see a week where Quintin Morris is inactive but Blanton gets called up, and they use him as an extra blocker in the run and/or pass game. 3 4

Brand J
I said earlier the Bills could use at least one TE who’s a blocking specialist versus just using an extra lineman.

BigAl2526
Interesting. He's a big bodied TE who should be able to block. Prior to the combine he was thought to be fast for a big guy and to run the 40 in the 4.6 range. At the combine, however, he ran a very disappointing 4.95. I have no idea why the expectations different from the results, but at least he gave the indication thaty he might be a receiving threat as a pro. Hilarious! I always loved how color commentators would refer to him as "blocking tight end Lee Smith," and then he'd go ahead and catch a TD pass. As slow as he was, he actually ran routes a few times per game, and if the defense didn't notice him, he'd make a play. He was a better athlete than people gave him credit for. I saw him in an interview once where he bragged that he could play anywhere on the O-line, in a pinch. But, his real use was in the jumbo packages. That was where the much-maligned Bobby Hart was actually useful. I think it's a wrinkle that this current roster lacks. 1

Captain Caveman
My guess would be this guy starts on practice squad and occasionally gets elevated to be a blocking TE based on gameplan. Or if he gets signed to active roster I guess Quinton might go to PS? 56 minutes ago, drummernut74 said: Von is going to be pissed ... he wants to be the first player to win a SB with 3 different teams! The Frankish Reich
I hope he sticks. We really have been missing a better than adequate blocking TE. It was fun to pile on Lee Smith, but he did his job and made the team just a little bit better.
