2023 NFL Combine Results and News

I figured a centralized place for the combine news would probably be a good idea as we start seeing player evaluations begin.

Here is a breakdown of the Combine schedule for the remainder of this week:

March 2 (3 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET): DL, LB

March 3 (3 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET): DB, PK/ST

March 4 (1 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET): QB, WR, TE

March 5 (1 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET): OL, RB

The combine takes place at its usual stomping grounds of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and it should hopefully be an exciting week of coverage. Prepare for your early mock drafts to be blown to bits, and may all our picks be future HOF’ers.

I hope they continue to do all of this on a yearly basis. I know some of the coaches have come out to say they aren't attending, or they don't pay any attention to the workouts. In the end, yes, the tape matters more than the underwear Olympics. Still, to see how some of these guys test athletically does make a difference when looking at the RAS. I like to see the agility scores for RB's, WR's, and TE's as well as the 40's. I like seeing how the lineman on both sides of the ball do on the bench and in agility drills. Some of the workouts the DE's do show you the type of bend and explosion they have. I think that quite a bit of the info is useful, and combined with the tape makes a difference for many of these guys. Especially when you get to late day 2 and day 3 of the draft.

The problem with scouting is these players don't play in bubbles so someone could test with the exact same numbers and not have the same production. Is it coaching? Individual work ethic? Intelligence? Nobody has mastered the secret formula that can make a great player as there are so many variables. All we can hope is that our GM and coaching can unearth a player with whatever "it" is and maximize his talents.

I think that's why the interview process is important as well. It's still a crapshoot, but all of these factors at least help one to form their own perspectives.

The only thing I pray for is our scouts aren't drunk.

That’s like one of the biggest parts of the weekend. It getting hammered and making connections.

i e it the combine but it is the most overrated thing in all of sports. If you put much stock in it, you are not too bright.

Didn't see one here, so I thought I would start one to talk about the results from the combine all in one thread...

Today was DL's testing and DT Calijah Kancey from PITT...posted an INSANE 4.67 40 time, the fastest since 2003 for any interior lineman...

That 1.52 10-yard split is 🔥 too

Maybin had a 1.57 10-yard split. Like Nolan Smith, Maybin was also said to be "thin-waisted" & bulked up from 235ish lbs to 250lbs for the Combine.

I have no doubt Smith will be a better pro than Maybin, but when I see the term "thin waisted" used on any DL, my first thought it to stay the heck away.

Maybin juiced up for the combine and then lost it all and was literally one of the worst picks in the history of the bills. So I’m with ya on staying away from someone who remotely resembles that bum.

My Edmunds replacement Dorian Williams runs a 4.54 40

I’m pretty high on Dorian as well. Probably a 4th rounder and right about where I would be comfortable taking him. Could slip into the 5th but I think he’s gone by then

I’m a big fan of Jack Campbell and Drew Sanders too, but not sure I want to draft them as early as would be needed with the offensive needs. If they’re available in rounds 2/3 there’s gonna be some consideration

So I click it on, and Adebawore goes 4.54 at 6'1" and 281, holy crap.

These other edge guys look like stickmen and Adebawore looks like a bouncer.

Yaya Diaby looks legit too.

There is a bunch of edge guys just moving extremely fast at large sizes. Nolan Smith goes 4.44 and explosive af, Van Ness goes 4.64 and looks monsterish at 6'5" 272. Byron Young goes 4.51 and also explosive. They are cruising.

This is the NFL.com combine tracker. It allows you to sort by position and by event to see how everyone scored.

Also, you can now pay NFL+ to watch the combine… thank$ Goodell, you $ure are a $well guy. 🙄

I know this is a different topic, but it reminded me of today when I finally made the call to Directv and canceled… I had to go through two people, and the last guy begged me not to cancel. He even tried lying to me , telling me they still had NFL Sunday ticket.. I just had to go on there and go through a app. Lol.

Look.  Once this "streaming" fad ends you'll be sorry.  Also, technically the 2023 NFL season doesn't begin until March 15th so nobody was lying.

You must work for DTV. And the streaming fad is just getting started, only reason I had DTV is because of Sunday ticket.. streaming is the way to watch tv now.. for me and my family!!! GO Bills

It was a sarcastic joke.  Direct TV is slowly going into extinction.  Losing Sunday Ticket only accelerates the process.

Yeah but at least we got to hear the epic lyrical stylings...

"Mayhem Maybin...

Quarterback Cravin'...

Go hard crazy...

Defensive Wes Craven...

That O-Line can't save him..."

But then we got to watch this on the field...

But I do have to give him props...he has some artistic talent...those drawings are really really good...

Stevie Johnson with a rap back in his UK days...wonder if that was a requirement for Nix back then...ensure the players had some lyrical skills or at least rapped...maybe he was trying to sign him to his side hustle record label...
