Captain Caveman
8 minutes ago, Rochesterfan said: But they were not fired for anything that occurred in the game - both the NFL and the NFLPA agreed the protocols as written were followed and the INC was not at fault. The NFLPA fired him because in their meetings he acted like most doctors can when questioned and got ticked at how they were questioning him and trying to lay blame - so he became combative with their attorney. https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/10/01/nflpa-fires-unaffiliated-neurotrauma-consultant-amid-tua-tagovailoa-situation-per-report Quote The NFL Players Association reportedly fired the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant who was involved in Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s evaluation last Sunday after it was found the doctor made “several mistakes,” a source told ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques. The NFLPA noted multiple reasons for the termination, including a “failure to understand his role as UNC and hostility during the investigation process,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported. I'd say a "Failure to understand his role as UNC" would indicate that it did have to do with what occurred in that game. Hostility during the investigation process was also mentioned though. Micah is either establishing a new medical precedent for ACDF recovery by months or he had the ADR surgery instead. Given how conservative doctors are, my money is on the latter. Im wondering if he just needed a micro diskectomy / decompression. Would be rare and very lucky. No way he plays if fused or had a disk replacement. only thing that makes sense is simple decompression / like you see all the time in lumbar spine Edited January 11, 2023 by balln

No way he plays if fused or had a disk replacement. only thing that makes sense is simple decompression / like you see all the time in lumbar spine Does a small discectomy/decompression also involve surgery thru the front of the neck? The scar he has on his throat suggests a surgical procedure of some kind. It’s also worth noting that Micah had been dealing with this cervical disc issue since his Green Bay days, when it first appeared. I agree that if he had the ACDF there is no way he would play so soon, but he is already at the recovery period for an ADR, so that at least makes sense to me. I'm not saying that the Bills won't win or that the game will be close, but those dudes are always a threat to take a WR screen to the house. Oh I missed that - if he has anterior incision then yea would be fusion or disc replacement. Maybe docs are lightening up on restrictions. If his fusion is completely fused. On a ct scan- could be 2-3 months. And he’s got normal exam and strength good. Why not ? No good science data on return to play in this area

No good science data on return to play in this area Actually, you may be entirely correct about the decompression procedure. I did a little cursory research and then spoke to a spinal surgeon pal of mine (he’s retired) and he said that the decompression procedure also involves a minimal surgical procedure thru the front of the neck which would also leave that scar. The best news is that the recovery period is much shorter than either the ACDF or ADR. I wish I would have looked at this sooner.
