That anyone even gives a 💩 what those schmucks bloviate on and on about is frankly a troubling point for humanities intelligence, and longevity.

Don’t like Cris Collinsworth, don’t like his site.....somehow still open the thread and comment negatively any time “ PFF GRADES” are in the title.

That’s because I’m right on every point in every post, it’s a community service, it is done for the good of all football fans.

Oh, I am not arguing. I really shouldn’t have even quoted your post. We express the same sentiment. The fact that they had Groot ranked 82 out of 101 and he’s nominated for the rookie of the week and had an incredible performance says enough. But, it is so easy to go on and on about their ridiculous rankings.

Matt Milano is PFF's #1 ranked 4-3 LB

Ed Oliver is ranked 25th for Interior defenders

Epenesa is the 5th ranked edge defender

Hughes ranks 14th

Everyone's favorite MLB is ranked 48th

How can this be right? There are only 32 teams...🤔

PFF still uses antiquated notions like  3-4 and 4-3.

Milano is a 4-2 LB.

The nickel (in all its variations) is the top defense in the NFL right now and the Bills run it more than anybody.

In any case, it's good to see him get some love.

PFF's "grades" are terrible.  Their metrics are BS, even if they made Cookie #1.  @Don Otreply is right, they're 💩

It's curious.  All 32 teams subscribe to PFF so they must think PFF has some value.  And I've heard PFF comes up sometimes in contract negotiations.

But I don't know how you can accurately grade someone if you don't know exactly what play was called, what instructions were received from the coach, what the reads were, etc.    Plus sometimes a player will change what he's doing if he sees a teammate missing an assignment.  Too many unknowable variables.

I could be wrong but I think the data teams value from PFF may not be these grades.

PFF puts together a lot of basic data - what personnel are on the field in different packages, down and distance tendencies etc

Not that it actually means anything, but Epenesa getting some props is nice to see.  He kind of took over there.  Had a sack, knocked a QB out of the game, and like 9 pressures on 34 snaps!  Yikes!!!!!  Pure BEAST!  I'd love to see some more of that.

Also, to the poster who used both "schmucks" and "bloviate" in the same sentence:  that made my day haha!  Don't see those two words used together very often.

I dont know that teams use PFFs for their grades.  There are advanced stats that are very helpful such as splits for under pressure, blitzed, personnel groupings.  This can be very valuable to outsource to PFF rather than try to track it yourself.

Like Sammy Watkins, we just wait for this breakout that is going to happen at any minute.

3 missed tackles in that game.

Any chance the Bills see Edmunds as a potential trade during the offseason?

Trade or cut the guy.  He does nothing to impact a game favorably for us.  Just watch his play on the field.  I think he has zero interceptions in 3+ seasons.  Not that interceptions are the only barometer for whether a LB can play or not, but seriously my dead grandmother has better hands.

No team hits on every 1st round pick.  It just doesn't happen.  Why this guy is still starting on our defense is a head scratcher.  If we started Dodson Klein or Andre Smith at Edmonds position, I think we get better results.

Idc what they say. If you know football,  you can see with ur own eyes who is playing good or bad.

Don't need some b.s made up system to tell me anything.

After they did Allen like that in 2019, I'll never take them serious.

They don't know what players assignments were on any given play. Maybe the WR messed up and made it look like the QBs fault, Maybe the CB messed up and made it look like the S fault, etc etc...

More than one middle linebacker plays in 34 teams

Nickel has become the league base because of how much the league passes

Milano is still very much a 4-3 outside linebacker.. he doesn't have the skills to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 or Mike in a 43

McDermott still runs a 43 under even if we're in nickel majority

I don't know how they grade their edge rushers, but seeing Epenesa up there gives it some credence.  The fortunate son has been been a beast.

Relatedly, good call (so far) by Shrager having him as one of his 10 breakout players for 2021.

My understanding from previous posts (not necessarily fact) was that they use them for their marketing site (e.g., Milano ranked #1). The team is much better equipped to judge their own players as you point out .. they know what play was called. I would imagine they also don't use them for other team's player evals as the PFF top draft picks / top free agents don't align to draft position / contracts from what I can see.

Plus the PFF guys "swear" they can tell which teams are going by THEIR draft guide when making selections.
