I forget which coach said it, but one coach last year said that Miami has the greatest home field advantage in sports. Especially for those September and early October games. They have the visitors where dark uniforms and they stand in the Miami sun and humidity. Teams go down there and melt in the hum-did-it-ty. Meanwhile, they wear white and have the shaded side of the field. Edited August 9, 2021 by wjag

Buffalo's currently under a heat advisory with a heat index expected of 95 to 100 so I would guess it was legitimately hot this morning there. But Miami in September will still be a challenge without a doubt.

sherpa
Pay less attention to the temperature, and more to the dew point. Dew point is the temp at which the current amount of moisture in the atmosphere will condense. The higher the dew point, the more water vapor in the air mass. Not always stressed by local weather folks, but far more indicative of the level of uncomfortableness. California, Arizona and other southwest states can have temps in the mid 90's but the dew point is so low it really isn't that uncomfortable. Dew point is a way more an accurate indicator than relative humidity. As an aside, know which state has the highest relative humidity in the US on an annual basis? Alaska. WNY dew point now is 69 degrees. Not Florida level, which can get into the stifling mid 70's, but fairly high, and quite high for that area. 2

I wonder if we might see vets with some physical issues like Feliciano and even Hughes being held out and eventually winding up on the PUP list. Could be a way to help with the numbers game of the 53 man roster and keep some of the younger players and then not have to make a decision for 6 weeks. By that time, there are likely to have been some injuries that have freed up spots. Could allow extra time to heal and keep older players fresh for later in the season. Rochesterfan
Honestly - the way they monitor these guys - the players may not have been as bothered as some data they were monitoring gave a warning and the trainers had them sit out. The week prior to the Miami game - I remember the staff talking about extra hydration all week to get them hydrated. It was a week of getting them ready for the temps and the humidity and then still having to give a few guys IVs to replenish the fluids. During training camp - they are hydrating, but losing fluids everyday - so they never build up the excess. My guess is that is what you were seeing today. Hot and humid - taking breaks and getting off the field for protection. Hope everyone is alright! Contrast this back to High School ball with 2 or 3 a days in this heat and few water breaks - I can’t believe more of us didn’t collapse. 3

This offense is built for elite route running and I think he is a better route runner than John Brown. With Diggs and Beasley and Sanders on the field defenses are going to have a tough time stopping one of them getting open.

I have heard the Bills trainers talk about this before - to actually be effective in hydrating for a game in Miami - they need to start 5 days before the game at minimum. Trying to do it the night before can actually cause more problems because your body will eliminate most of the excess water and create a potential net loss. They give the guys individual plans - on how much to drink and to spread it out so that they maintain fluid levels as much as possible - even with that - they still get guys going down with cramps and needing IVs. The worse thing is to plan or practice at one temp and then get these super hot/humid days sort of by surprise and they have not got the added hydration plan in place - I think that was what today was - Hot following their Saturday practice in the stadium - where the turf makes it worse.
