Just a sad and tragic situation. What I will ask is what the heck is a former Ohio State player doing with a Michigan State girl - that is some Romeo v. Juliet stuff there. There is a natural and powerful hatred between those 2 schools - although Michigan is probably even worse than M State, but still. I feel bad for Dwayne because he has done nothing wrong and we don’t even know a small part of the story and he is getting killed for absolutely no reason - sad state of affairs and nearly as bad as some comments in the Mingo thread. On the one hand, I agree with you completely - we don't know the story, and according to the charges he's the victim here, he's done nothing wrong. On the other hand, we all know that the amount of "distraction" and Drama a team will tolerate is linked to the player's expected on-field contributions. Shady McCoy after 1000+ yd season: High. Backup-quality QB fighting for a roster spot: Low. So from that perspective, what Haskins has done wrong is to get involved in a Drama-prone situation where "bad things happen": excessive drinking, domestic arguments, etc. I think that was the message Big Ben got: look, you may or may not have done anything legally wrong, you don't have charges against you, but you're putting yourself in situations that draw Drama, and it needs to stop. On the third hand there's this: Quote In a separate interview, Gondrezick-Haskins told investigators she tried to stop a fight between Dwayne Haskins and one of his friends earlier in the evening. She said she had fallen to the floor during that altercation and hit the back of her head, telling police she had head and neck pain, as well as bruises on her legs. Police noted that she "could not remember who, if anyone had battered her." That's a song I'm sure those officers have heard before on a "domestic" call - someone who shows physical signs of abuse shifts the blame or "can't remember" Quote The report says she told police she was not sure what happened to Dwayne Haskins but suggested he got into a fight with his friend. Officers told her she was accused of punching Dwayne Haskins and the report says she asked if he was the one accusing her. It goes on to say she told investigators he could not be arrested "because of his occupation." That's another song those officers have heard before - someone who shows physical signs of abuse holds back from testimony that could lead to charges because they don't want to damage the livelihood of the person who may have committed the abuse (or initially testifies, then recants) I'm not saying that Haskins did anything wrong, I'm just saying there are a few clues that he may have had a physical part in a physical altercation and there may have been a reason his wife/fiance took a swing at him (if she did) Quote Two friends of Gondrezick-Haskins were interviewed by police as well. The report says they both heard the couple arguing. One friend said they saw the couple "tussling," which is described as mutual shoving and pushing in the report. So there's that.

One's character is defined as their "mental and moral" qualities.........not just "moral" qualities. Haskins is a bad decision maker. The person who has gotten the most into this thread is a guy who reads an article on a subject and then thinks he's an expert.........his idea of going out and having a good time is probably taking his dog for a walk. As someone who has had a number of all-nighters in Vegas.........there are just so many "seeming" bad decisions by Haskins that it's hard to think that he didn't make a bunch of them. 1) Don't leave your wife or GF behind if they are expecting you to wait for them. This show a lack of emotional intelligence. It may take an extra hour for them to get ready......they may just want to look their best or maybe they are drinking and having fun and lose track of time. But don't leave without them. Right or wrong, that's a trigger. 2) If you are taking them to "a show" where they are watching pro dancers jump around in their underwear.........and you are going to a club with young women getting drunk and making bad decisions....mostly without underwear on..........you need to understand that dynamic. The women do. Escort them to their show........they don't want to show up looking like a bunch of desperate free agents too a male revue. And by ditching them you are looking WAY too over-anxious to be getting to that other place. 3) Have a plan for if your wife/gf or the friends you hang out with gets out of control drunk. Have a plan in general when you are putting yourself in harms way for the pursuit of fun. This was not Duh-wayne's first night out and he knows his career is hanging by a string, if not a thread. No excuse for that guy to not know what can happen. Big drop in salary going from NFL QB to working in the range of a rental car company or handing out advil samples for GSK like some of the Ohio State football players I've known. This is all BEFORE the alleged fighting with a friend and injuring of his wife and the subsequent scuffle between them and getting his bite re-arranged. If your wife pushes you.......don't push her back and escalate the situation. His wife is a big girl at 5'8" but she is still dwarfed by him. It definitely seems like he made a number of poor decisions before ultimately feeling he had to call security..........and he is exceptionally stupid if the didn't think telling them that his wife assaulted him wasn't going to result in the police coming. I might add to this, poor decision-making in terms of who he’s surrounding himself with. He needs at least one friend who serves as a conscience to stop him from getting into a hot water, and/or a “fixer” if it’s too late for that. I’ll also add, I’ve said many times, you don’t really know a true friend until he’s pulled you out of a Vegas strip club at 3 am and stuffed you into a cab and probably paid for the dances you passed out during. Just saying. True friends are rare and you need to make sure you have them and know who they are. 1 1

Once a young guy gets sufficiently oiled, whatever decisions (good or bad) he made in a sober state go fluttering off like evening swallows seeking a roost. Has been that way, will be that way. "Pre-gaming" being a Big Thing with the 20 year old set these days, when asked "was Haskins already too drunk to think when he headed out for the evening?" the Magic 8 Ball says "almost certainly so". That's likely to be the root cause bad decision - getting real drunk without having a backup plan to hand his decision making off to someone who remained capable.
