For a good laugh, take a look at last year's Mocks

Recommended Posts

By now we've seen a ton of mock drafts, each one of them different from the next one.    Just to remind you that nobody has ANY clue, Google up yourself some 2018 NFL.mocks and get ready to laugh at how hopelessly wrong they all are.

Not only will it show you how the draft experts are completely in the dark on this whole thing, it also gives a glimpse into how incredibly different the NFL would look if some of these guys were right. ( ie.Josh Allen and Chubb to Browns and we take Rosen and VanDerEsch)

With the exception of Saquon to the Gmen, most of them have zero correct picks.   Zero.    And we think weathermen are wrong a lot.....

I'm far less interested in guessing where players could be selected than I am in how players were (and are) ranked.  Much more concerned about which players are correctly evaluated rather than which team they'll end up.  "This guy is going to be great/awful" is a much stronger indication of draft prowess than guessing where they will play.

I had 4 exactly right and 11 teams with the correct position, but wrong player.

My best year, by far, was 2015. I got 10 perfect player-team pairings.

Youre due

In fairness if they had us taking Rosen and VDE they got both positional picks right. Nailing exact matches as a mocker is hard, because you don't know every team's board. Getting the right position is a decent effort.

I had 6 exactly right and 1 (Josh Allen) where I had him going to the Bills but had us trading up to 10 to get him rather than 7.

And yet still a senseless waste of time.  I will never understand the "mock draft" phenomenon.

It's because fans are obsessed with learning about who their team might end up with and aren't patient enough to just wait and see.

I only had 2 exact matches last year - Barkley (which was the gimme) and LVDE. I also had two player and team matches that I mocked for round 1 and happened in later rounds and 9 right position wrong player.

My best was 7 exact matches and 11 positional matches in 2015.

My 2018 mock was below my usual standard. My average is 4/5 exact matches.

I enjoy it. It's a bit of fun.

How many trades were there in the first round last year on draft day..? From memory it was about 7 or so..

No one obviously is going to be able to predict where these end up, but I still find mock drafts handy to give some idea about players who are expected to go in the early rounds..

Mayock’s was pretty damn close across the board.  Might not always get the team right but but he was super accurate in the range the player went.  Ward was the curveball last year in the top 5.

his write up is foreshadowing...

Dude is 6-foot-5, 237 pounds. He's the same size as Carson Wentz with bigger arm talent and he's a better athlete. Out of maybe any player in this draft, his upside might be the highest. I don't think he's ready Day 1, but if he can get over some hurdles, he's going to be special.

This is why I no longer spend much time on pre-draft media coverage.  It's just bird cage filler...

Mayock even used the term HURDLE in describing Allen. Does he see the future, I mean the Barr hurdle was incredible.

I'd love to see Mayock's mock this year!

I said all along dating back to the second that McDermott took the HC job in 2017..............

that Josh Allen was his guy at QB.

Other than that, just about everything I predicted for the 2018 draft was way off.

Yep, agreed.

That and the fact I dont follow every team so I dont know what their needs are. Mocks help me understand what positions other teams might be going for, and who the Bills may be in competition with in order to get our guys.

I think this year I will pick on of the mocks (Kiper?) and compare to @Virgil TSW draft.  See which is more accurate.  I suspect TSW will be competitive.

Give points for:

5 points:  player/slot/team

3 points:  player/slot

1 point:    player/round.

I saw a lot of mocks that had the Bills getting Josh Allen last year

A couple of months ago when there was no football stuff happening I looked back at the final 2018 mock drafts  & a very high % of the top guys had the Bills trading into the top 10 for Allen.  What that told me was the word was out that the Bills were going after Allen and they still were able to trade up & get him.

Some guys, like Kiper, do mock drafts based on who they think is the best player at the position & assign him to the team in need of that position.  Other guys actually try to predict what will happen, rather than apply their biases like Kiper (who BTW thought Allen was the best QB & mock drafted him to Cleveland), and end up getting things right sometimes.  Going over all the mocks, the guys actually trying to predict the draft were saying the Bills were going to do whatever it took to get Allen if he fell out of the top 3.  They were also smart enough to know neither Cleveland, NYG or NYJ were taking him.

He just won't have the Raiders on this one!

But, I've like listening to him over most of those idiots, especially Kiper. That fool is always wrong!!!

Kiper is an entertainer. I like him. I know many don't.

Yes he is wrong in the mock predictions just like anyone else, but you must consider it is a fluid thing and he does multiple mocks as the draft nears. Basing his mocks on information available at time of any mock. That is then all out the window as the draft begins and shapes. Kiper then predicts who will be going on actual events.

I like his genuine excitement and his crazy loud speak at the draft. Especially when he disagrees with other commentators and they have a little spat. Funny guy.
