MrEpsYtown
Oh lord that seems a bit high. Perhaps they are planning to expand his role? He does double as a fullback, but split time with Maxx Williams, Andrews, and Hirsch. I think he has some upside as a receiver, but kinda yuck. I'm curious what the guaranteed number is, and I think Jesse James certainly gets more. Edited March 7, 2019 by MrEpsYtown
atlbillsfan1975
There seems to be such a discrepancy between elite tight ends and then everyone else. This contract is very reasonable by salary cap numbers. Tight is one of the few positions were pay has not sky rocketed.

oldmanfan
This is what happens in free agency. Guys get overinflated contracts. I think Beane may go that route for a position and/or guy they really think fits a need and will be around for a while (like the RT Williams), but overall I see him staying out of insane bidding wars and instead using money judiciously.

Doc
Are you kidding me? Six million a year for a guy who has been in the league for 4 years, has averaged (if you remove his injury-riddled 2nd year) about 17 catches for 200 yards and no TDs a year? Blokestradamus
If $6m a year gets you Nick Boyle, I might have to take another look at my stance against 1st round tight ends. Crazy money for his production and a two-time PED user.

Chandler#81
1st of all, it’s not any of our money. No one is asking for contributions from fans aside from ticket sales. 2nd, it’s FA time. The guy is coming up to his 2nd contract. He’s decent, so of course he’s going to get a raise. Finally, every year in recent memory, the NFL Salary Cap increases, this year is no exception. Its a fair rate and the guy can play. Give him a break!

They’re fully loaded at tight end now. Also I don’t think this sets the market really. Baltimore values him quite high for the gimmick run offense they are going to run. He would not have seen that much in free agency. Jesse James might be close to the same number, but as others have said it’s all about the guarantees

bigK14094
Yes, the Bills success depends on how Beane spends the cap space available. And, of course, the scheme's put in place by McD

I am all for drafting one of those TEs, I would also add Oliver to that list who reminds me of a young Jimmy Graham. In fact, I would still sign Jesse James, even over $6m. He is not only a big target but a very good pass and run blocker. Then draft Oliver whose strength is as a receiver and not as polished as a blocker yet. Those two would form a twin towers tandem that would be very difficult to defend and also boost our blocking with James. This way we can draft DL, WR, or OL with out first two picks and then nab Oliver in rounds 3 or 4.
Ethan in Cleveland
This is a good example of why our expectations for this off-season need to be tempered. There is so much cap room collectively. Teams can spend stupid money to get even marginal players. I would be ok with "overspending" or setting the market for Paradis. For other positions, they will have to try and find some value. Bringing back Miller on a reasonable contract could be an option. TE is going to have to be through the draft. They need to trade out of the #9 spot and get another day 2 pick.
