Estelle Getty
I know they are billionaires but since 2015 when they hired or extended their now fired coaches and GMs they gave away about $35 Million that they still owe these four. This is based off of Rex's 17.5 million he is still owed, Bylsma 9 million, And since Whaley and Murray recently signed extensions I'm going to be conservative and figure they are still owes about 4 million each. They certainly didn't obtain their wealth by making such bad investments. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they have made all of these moves, however it is a bit alarming to see. And please don't talk about what ESPN is paying Rex with his fake teeth and once stapled stomach, whatever #s they worked out isn't putting a dent in what the Bills owe him. Heavy Kevi
Who gives a flying crap It's their money, and they will make it back 15 seconds into the first game. And Terry has made it clear that his goal for the Sabres and Bills isn't to make money. Fracking makes alot more than a pro sports franchise. LABILLBACKER
If it costs 21M to get rid of a horrible HC and mediocre GM good! Money well spent. Now let's put all our support and good vibes into McDermott. Time to move forward....

Not that it matters that much, but there is offset language in Rex's deal and I would bet the same goes for Murray and Bylsma, too.

Estelle Getty
The point being since many of you missed it is that it's a bit disconcerning they are 0-4 and -35 million when it comes to the biggest decisions an owner can make. Since ya know them making the right decisions in respect to GMs and coaches is are only hope as fans. They aren't off to a rousing start.

klos63
Terry will drill another hole and make that in 1 day i think the point is the pegulas are making bad business decisions when it comes to sports. I'm sure nobody is worried that pegula will go broke, and it's nice to not worry about wasting $35mm, but it's hardly a good thing. It's bad business, even if he can afford it. Since ya know them making the right decisions in respect to GMs and coaches is are only hope as fans. They aren't off to a rousing start. Ya don't say? Look , most of us fans are aware that their first hires weren't exactly great choices. I sure hope they get / got them right this time. That said, I'd rather have owners that can see their mistake and try to correct it without worrying about eating the money. Keeping Rex for another year would have been a terrible move. Whaley probably should have went with him.
SF Bills Fan
I think NFL teams make far more money than what is publicly known or believed. This is 35 million is likely a tiny amount for them.
hondo in seattle
Entrepreneurs and business leaders call this "the cost of doing business." Sometimes unfortunate costs come with the territory. Terry mentioned that all teams have dead money. Whether it's for ex-players, or ex-coaches, or whoever - if you run a major sports franchises you're going to end up having to pay people who longer work for you. It's the nature of the beast. Eventually - I hope - they'll find a coach and GM combo they like (i.e. who win) and they'll hold onto them.
