PetermansRedemption
My prediction, this is just a tactic to get Cincinnati to move on a long term extension. They won’t oblige the trade request and they will get a long term deal done. 2

Also, there is no way the Bengals would be willing to move him to Buffalo and make use potentially better without a SEVERE over pay in draft capital. Well yeah, it's sign me an extension or trade me, and that should surprise no one. and while people might say why not us, the contract would be a pain in the ass, but the main thing is they'd never send him to the Bills, just like they'd never send him to the Chiefs or maybe at this point Texans. The Tomcat
Not sure if I want him at the price he'll demand but I'd love for another team out of the AFC to. He's gonna get paid by someone and Cinci will get a 1/2 pick. NFL Rosters are so fluid.

Oh, I'm sure they would if someone stepped up with an offer that was magnificent. Outside of a franchise QB, almost every player is available at the right compensation. For them, it would make sense to keep him as he's proven that in that offense with what they have around him he can succeed and keep their offense strong. Less of a gamble of production loss rather than rolling with a rookie...and they need a strong offense as their defense has lost a ton of good pieces over the last 2 years. Toyo321
It's all a pre FA posture move for Higgin's, we have to keep the money we have and hit on the WR position in the Draft. Save the money.
DCOrange
I think WR is definitely a consideration for them with their first round pick.
H2o
The way this plays out could dictate their draft strategy. If Higgins is going to be there for a while then they likely don't go WR in the 1st. If Higgins is on the move then that could be another of the top talents off of the board.

They have to sign Chase going forward and Chase > Higgins. Tee is on the team. They will probably get a third as a comp pick if he walks next year, so that’s where the bidding starts. So their choice is either: 1. Highly drafted rookie and high third/late second (at least) for Higgins 2. Highly drafted rookie and 1 year of Higgins until he walks next year They are gonna be in the WR market in the first round imo. And a Higgins long-term deal is not coming, again imo. Which is why they haven’t negotiated for a year lol Edited March 11 by FireChans
SCBills
I'd actually be willing to throw a big contract at him, but in order to beat out an NFC or non-rival AFC team, we'd likely have to beat the trade compensation...by a lot. I know we have a lot of holes, but we need to close the gap between the 3 superstars (4 if they don't trade Snead) KC has to our 1... and while that's highly doubtful the route we'd take as Beane loves having depth, I'd begin to think about sacrificing that for high end players and then fill in with Day 3's and UDFA's as depth. The local MLS team has much better training facilities than the Bengals but that's because the Lindners have actual assets outside of the team. Two reasons: 1) No contract talks for a year. 2) Cincy tagged him the instant we entered the tag window. If they wanted to keep him, they’d have waited until the end of the window and worked on a deal. That was a clear signal they were going to try to trade him. Or just keep him one last season, but probably trade him. In any event, they don’t want to sign him to a big contract. One of the worst kept secrets in the NFL right now is the Chargers desire to move down from 5. Not sure they’d want to go all the way down to 19 or take Higgins rather than draft Nabors, but if they were interested then they could do a deal. Cincy might have to sweeten it a little, but you’d have to think they would be in striking distance. Edited March 11 by BarleyNY

It is a part of the game and would obviously depend on why they're looking for the trade, if it's just contract then yeah it's just as much a tool for a new contract as it is for getting traded somewhere that will give them one. But when someone gets tagged then the player is obviously going to want a negotiated deal whether it's on the current team or elsewhere.

It is a powerful tool for players as it ratchets the pressure on the team big time and you know the fans will not be happy either. With that said it usually is not great when guys request out and it typically is the crack that causes movement down the road even if it takes a few years.
