Anybody Ever Do Time in Juvie/Prison?

Recommended Posts

Driving home from Niagara Falls to Orchard Park one Saturday evening, on Niagara Falls Blvd. Pulled over for suspended registration. The unfortunate thing was it was in the Nazi Town of Amherst, so I spent the night in a very sterile Town of Amherst jail cell. Fun fact, the Town of Amherst Police Department used to have their very own Mcdonald's just for cops and prisoners. And sure enough, I ate McDonalds. I was transferred to the Erie County Holding Center and spent all of 30 minutes in a cell with a guy who was there on DWI until a friend came and bailed me out. The Town of Amherst wouldn't let me or anyone post bail until I saw the judge, and that was around 7 pm Sunday Night.

1 out of 10. Don't recommend.

I got hauled in with some friends. Some guy in a gray suit is running toward us down a dirt road. He keeps yelling “DON’T RUN! DON’T RUN!”

So we ran. We were shooting cans with a Beebe gun. We had no idea he was from the brutal Williamsville Police Department, or that he had fellow cops in other cars waiting exactly where we would come out. I could have saved myself a half mile sprint and a hurdle over a barbed wire fence a bit taller than I was comfortable with.

After we figured we had left the fat old man in the gray suit in the dust, we settled down on the slope of a hill in some tall grass. We are young and trying to catch our breath, and the fat old man is history. We are still breathing heavy when the other guys in uniform came over the other side if the hill. They asked “why did you run?” My buddy unwisely asked “why did you follow us?”   😂

So we went out in the back of the patrol car past everyone who emptied the community pool to see the police cars leave the neighborhood. Not OJ in the Bronco, but impressive at my then age. My parents picked me up at the pokey after dinner, I think.  No TV for me that night.

Probably much like the stories @Levi will tell you.

It wasn’t really nuthin to worry about.  Just a place to knock some teeth outta some heads and make a few bucks sellin cigs.  Most people was scared like the Bills is when they think about week one.  And if you knew what youse was doin it was as easy a place as week 1 is gonna be for the Jets.

The only time I was in jail was to get my Sheriffs Card. For theyoungins, a Sheriff's Card was an ID proving you were 18 and old enough to drink. When you turned 18, go downtown to register to vote at the Board of Elections, register for the draft at  Selective Service,  and get a Sheriff's Card. Go into the front of the jail. Turn right to visit relatives, turn left to  get your Sheriff's Card.

Related to the post above, my dad's cousin was a Cheektowaga cop. There  was a bigg party in miniville, which was in the old rail yard off of Losson Rd. The cops were all stationed at the exits to the area and a few went in to rouust them.  As like above, the kids came out of the weeds ro see cops waiting for them.  Dad's cousin said one of the kids asked "How did you catch us?". The cop told them, "Where do you think I partied as a kid?".😀

Does POW camp qualify?

During SERE, (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training, spent a couple days and nights in a POW camp.

Shoved in a box, really cold.

Interrogated a couple times. Got beat up a bit. Saw a few guys get water boarded.

Really not fun.

This is standard for navy pilots right?

i have not, but one of the guys in my wedding did some time in a federal prison.  i'm not sure who they are in relation to state prisons, but he did ok.  of course i had to ask about what goes down.  he said that by and large, everyone just leaves you alone.  fights and attacks are often coordinated and are a result of a specific inmate issues, gangs, drugs, etc.  he made it seem that if you kept to yourself, you'd be ok.   he never was aware of a rape when he was there, but he was aware of it happening, and again, it was typically a retaliation for gang activity/drugs.  apparently there were more than enough guys who were willing to hook up, so rape wasn't typically just for gratification.  i also asked whether pedophiles really get the brunt of it, and he thought for the most part no, as long as they were low key.  he claimed they mostly hung out with each other and did their own thing.  he did see someone attacked with the top of a tuna can, but otherwise he said it wasn't that bad.  i'm sure i'm leaving out a ton as i haven't seen him in a long time, but he was my go to guy with prison stories.

I avoided a Tijuana jail in the 80s by giving a Mexican motorcycle cop all the money I had ($80) in exchange for being escorted back to the border.

one of my roommates in college was from san diego, so he and his friends would regularly go to tijuana to party.  he said the same thing.  the cops messed with them all the time, and they would have to find random cash or CDs in the car to hand over.

That was almost my puppies name! And it was actually an autocorrection! I think I looked him up to be sure he was not the devil incarnate before making a final decision on the name.

No.

It is required for pilots who are going operate in hostile countries, what we call "feet dry."

It is not required for anti sub, transport, non search and rescue helicopters and others who would not go feet dry, ergo, not risk a POW thing.

It has changed massively since I went through, especially with the admission of women into that profession, but it was a very unenjoyable, but very valuable experience.

A bit off topic, but speaking of Tijuana and crime, Anyone hear of the Coronado High drug ring that happened in the 60s and 70s?

Fascinating story. It's a very, very long read, but well worth it. A movie was in the works, but apparently fell through.

In the 8th grade we went to Attica State prison on a field trip. Spent a 2 solid hours in there. One of those motivational deals... small speeches by inmates about how you don't want to wind up in there... don't be like them, etc. The place is pretty intimidating once you walk through the front door.

I know a friend who went to the academy and flew fighters had to do all of this. Figured it was standard. He has a Pentagon desk job now, got it like 4 years ago after spending a decade training pilots in Florida. The doerbirds or something

What was it like?

Are you getting info to prepare yourself lol? Lot of ppl ask about that when they are definitely getting locked up soon or think there's a good chance of it lol.

When the inevitable moment it's said to you, "find the biggest dude and punch him in the face".... I'd suggest not to take that advice haha.

I unfortunately can say that prison is better than jail, in most cases anyways...hang in there,

A guy I know reasonably well was in for about 10 years.  I believe it was Dannemora, upstate NY, for drug conspiracy.   Interesting guy—-told me he was guilty of many things, but in that case was set up by the local PD (also known for corruption, historically).

Told me he hung out with Gotti Jr while there, and said it was all about survival and hanging together with like/kind people.  He said it was mostly boring.

The closest I came to going to the big house was sneaking some  contraband candy into Money Heist with Ben Stiller.   I never felt so alive.

I have known several people who spent time in prison for various assorted crimes.

My sister had a boyfriend who was incarcerated. I don' recall where he was housed but definitely a minimum security facility. She would visit on he weekend and bring him trays of food. Specifically home made manicotti.. This was in the 70's .

I know an ex con from Donovans Correcional facility here in san diego that was paroled after convicted of 2nd degree murder.  He became a Christian behind bars and has remained free with his wife and family for over 8 years.

I actually met him first inside the prison. I had clearance to enter as a ministry volunteer. It involved a lot of walking and through several security posts. Yard C was maximum security.  We workers were not allowed to wear anything blue due to it being the color the prisoners wore. The prison guards treated us respectfully for the most part.  Some didn't like we were there

The chapel was where we would interact with the inmates. We had specific training on how to behave behind the walls. My husband served in a prison ministry effort called KAIROS. In his kairos group in yard B was Suge Knight. The death row records exec That guy. Kairos has a Graduation ceremony where people can apply for and receive a one day clearance and attend as a surprise for the men. I attended and  saw him.  When he got up to speak said his name was Suge I could hardly believe it. He is a fairly big guy bald head black sunglasses.

Guy I knew got a year in prison and he got through by running the gambling. He just said the guys in there are just the most degenerate types of peoples and he got enough guys to owe him money he was fine.

but when he first got in he thought he had to fight so he got into a fight with a skin head but they tricked him into taking the fight in their little wing and they jumped him and beat the shot outta him. He didn’t talk so he got left alone after but his nose is crooked as hell

You hang with a tough crowd... I kind of like when someone spills a coffee cup by accident.

I did a nickel in Big Spring for insider trading.  It wasn't so bad.  Food sucked and it was boring but people mostly kept to themselves.  Had to shank a guy who budged me in line for the go karts but other than that it was easy time.  We actually became quite good friends after that, funnily enough.

If you had a choice of going to prison for $500k/yr, how long would you stay?

If I could plea bargain that to six months under house arrest with an ankle bracelet (during football season), then I'd take the cool quarter mil.

As for prison - there's no price high enough for me.
