How do coaches who didn't even make the playoffs get first place votes.... That's a little suspicious.

LOL. Ok, you can tell my age with that one. I'll fix it. Thank you!

[BTW, half the time I still refer to the Cardinals as the "St. Louis (or Phoenix) Cardinals". Face palm.]

as others have said, best coaches this year are sirianni, shanahan, and reid. kind of a weird award given with fuzzy logic.

Carroll deserved just as much as Daboll. But I think the award always goes to the coach of the biggest surprise team or the coach of a team that dominates the league.

Daboll and Carrol are probably the biggest surprises last year. Pederson also but Trevor Lawrence was supposed to be in the playoffs at some point.

The last three coordinators turned coaches who won it their first season were Sean McVay, Matt Nagy, and Kevin Stefanski.  McVay was able to maintain it by spending like a teenager with a credit card.  Nagy was a massive failure after his first year.  Stefanski has struggled since winning it.  The true test with Daboll is whether he'll be able to win year in and year out like McDerdott, Reid, Harbaugh, Tomlin, etc... have.

Thought it was Shanahan or Sirianni. This award is a lot like the Comeback Player of the Year award for me in that CPOY tends to be the guy who came back from injury to play again. Coach of the Year is somewhat predictable, "who's the first year coach who did better than we thought." You could argue that a player who elevates his game massively or makes a giant leap should be in line for CPOY. It's like COTY could be split into 2 and CPOY could be as well.

Shanahan would win it every year

Not if he can't get injuries under control. Seems suspicious his teams are always among the ones with key players missing the most number of games year in and year out. That's not by chance when it happens every year.

There is a portion of that out of your control but as we have seen there is a large part within your control too.

The part within his control is completely lacking there from him. Possibly worst in the NFL from that perspective. The fact he has to keep doing this with tons of injuries is largely on him and the way he operates. He should not be rewarded for that.

Well deserved for Dabs.

Kind of shocking how McD hasn't won one yet with as much as he has turned this team around.

Well earned! He made Daniel Jones look like a top 15 QB and revived Saquan career. Add in he made a playoff team out of a 4-13 squad.

Geno Smith definitely counts as a player who elevated his game massively. He seemed like the obvious choice.

He came in 3rd out of four teams in his division. I'd have gone with Sirianni or Pederson, who both won their divisions.

But Pederson was 9-8 in a super soft division, whereas Daboll was 9-7-1 in the league's toughest division.

Didn't voters hear that the Moran Minority wants Sean McDermott out of Buffalo?

If that's the deciding factor, then how does Daboll beat out Sirianni, whose team had an even better season and will be playing Sunday ?

Year Sirianni would have been a good choice too. I guess he didn't win because he had an already good roster, whereas Daboll had almost nothing. But Sirianni did have a great year at 14-3 and assembled even more talent.

McDermott should've absolutely won it in 2017. Gets the bills to the playoffs after 17 years with a mediocre at best roster

It was a downright bad roster. He definitely deserved it in 2017. 2020 he was a good candidate as well.

He always falls short of winning a trophy.

Voting happens well before the superbowl. Superbowls have nothing to do with the award.
