muppy
I have been through several earthquakes. The closer you are to the epicenter the stronger you will have felt it. My house sits on rock so for me to feel one it has to be fairly close proximity. Mostly the windows will rattle is all here so far. Knock on wood. there is a thread in Off the Wall also. US Egg
Wife heard something, said she thought I dropped over in the house, she had a funny look when she woke me. Got up and walk around inside and out, nothing, thought all is good here, went back to bed. No problems here. My Dad grew up in Istanbul and told me some crazy stories too... That’s horrible (today) and crazy (parent story). If you have any family still there I hope they are okay. Yeah, they have them pretty often there...nobody injured that I know of, it was more central southern Turkey, most of my family still there lives near Istanbul. Nope...Big Turk is because I am Turkish(my Dad is from Istanbul) and I have been a gym rat for a while so I have some pretty decent size...it was actually a nickname given to me by a friend that stuck so now a lot of my friends call me that... I'm Spartacus
I live close to the epicenter in West Seneca. My bedroom is above my garage. Heard a loud "booming" noise. I thought a car or maybe a deer smashed into my garage door. Very weird noise, lasted a few seconds.

Like in movies when bombs or a plane is gonna crash. I thought a plane crashed into my house. I grabbed my med kit and shotgun and ran outside in my underwear. Was prepping myself for what horrors I was gonna see when I got outside. Could hear my neighbors screaming. The people driving down hertel prob thought I was nuts. That must have been quite a sight!!!

There was a low 3 point something earthquake in WNY many years ago, I think in the '80s some time. I was in my house in the T of T and I have always described it exactly as you did. Back then, people thought there was a gas main explosion and fire trucks were dispatched to find the fires, etc...until people realized it was an earthquake. It sounded and felt like a giant oak tree got cut down and slammed into the outside of the house.
JohnBonhamRocks
Shot up out of bed to see if a car hit the front of the house this morning here in Elmwood Village! Seeing people posting their Ring doorbell videos makes me wonder if there is footage of the lake and if the quake caused ripples.
BillsFan4
Yeah we felt it and heard it here. I didn’t know what it was at first. I heard a loud noise and the whole house shook. I thought a big machine was driving down the street or a plane was flying super low over head at first. Then realized it was an earthquake a minute or two later. Draconator
The epicenter was near the corner of Mineral Springs and Indian Church Roads in West Seneca. What made this so widespread is that it was only 3km down. The further down an earthquake, the more localized it is. 3km is extremely shallow for an earthquake. It felt like something hit your house because the fault lines here are not long, and tectonic plates will generally slam together, instead of sliding along each other which will cause the rolling, 30-second earthquakes. I felt an earthquake exactly like this in Culver City, CA in 2003. That one was only a 3.1. The biggest earthquake I felt was on January 1st, 2002. That was a 4.8 and the resort we stayed at in Anza Borrego, CA was directly on top of the epicenter, 8 miles down. It sounded like my wife at the time and I were having really awesome sex with the way the headboard was hitting the wall. 1 1

hondo in seattle
732 earthquakes in the past year - mostly little ones - where I live. Wacka
On 2/6/2023 at 7:34 AM, \GoBillsInDallas/ said: I think it was Wacka taking a dump. That was on Saturday. No really, I plugged up the toilet on Saturday. I was still awake laying in bed because I had gotten up to pee a few minutes earlier. It was 2.1 miles south of me.I'm on the second floor. lasted a few seconds and the windows rattled. I had lived about 20 years in the SF area, so I knew what it was immediately and didn't get out of bed. In California, I lived 2 miles from the Calavaras fault (~20 % chance of having a big one in the next 20 years). There were microquakes which were unfelt every couple of days. The biggest I felt were two 4.2 quakes about 2 miles away under the Chevron HQ. One hit at 4 AM and woke me up. Could tell which direction it came from as it rattled pictures in my room, then the glass shower doors and then the pictures in the hall. The other was in the afternoon and I was on the floor (slab on grade) in my living room. The whole building moved back and forth probably about 5 feet (like the glider you would sit on on the porch) for about 15-20 seconds. The patio door vibrated and there were hairline cracks in the upper corners of the frame around it. After another one there that was probably a 3.5, iI went outside and saw the street lights (all metal) still vibrating. For smaller ones, I would see pencils in a cup on my desk move or the venetian blind cords sway.

Chicken Boo
Had one years ago here in D.C. For a second I thought the building I was in had been bombed. There's still cracks in the stairway walls. My house has hardwood floors that used to be relatively quiet. They creak now in certain areas.
