game might be closer than we think with all these injuries, esp. if the Bills err on the side of caution as @Logic mentioned above

One saving grace for the Bills, if they choose to be cautious and sit some injured players, is that the Steelers very well may be without a few key players of their own. If I'm not mistaken, Minkah Fitzpatrick has yet to practice this week.

Tavon Au---nevermind.... I guess our guy Hodgins is getting elevated this week. With Kumerow and Crowder sidelined he is the option.. unless somehow Gentry has surpassed him...

That Austin thing is just kinda weird.  He's still listed on the team's practice squad.

I imagine the injured players are in one of three camps:

Those who have a decent chance of actually playing this week, those who the Bills will rest to try to get back for the Chiefs game, and those who likely won't return until after the bye.

Hopefully, Edmunds, Knox, big Ed, and Phillips are in the second category. I'd say Gabe, too, but with the other injuries to the receiving corps, he may be forced to play this week. I assume Tre White and Christian Benford will not be seen until after the bye. I expect McKenzie to clear concussion protocol in time for the game.

With a similar fractured hand/surgery, Knox missed 3 weeks (2 games).  So the guess that Benford will be out this week is good.  Next week, might depend on who they have available, they might feel they could put a brace on it and pad it and he could play OK.  After all, some practice regimes make the DBs put on oven mitts....

I think you're probably right that Edmunds and Knox will be out this week.  2 weeks would kind of be typical for a hammie though so they might be out vs KC as well.  Those who feel our Pterodactyl MLB is a JAG and can be replaced by anyone, may get their chance.  TE troubles me because the thought of Sweeney and Morris trying to hold that down...*shudder*

Gabe has been playing, and there's no report of a setback that would cause him to not play.  He seems to be "playing his way through it".  I agree McKenzie looks positioned to clear concussion protocol.  You don't mention Kumerow, but I wouldn't expect to see him back with a high ankle sprain until 4 weeks have gone by, which means not until after the bye.

I think we may see Big Ed play this week.  It's been 4 weeks as of today, which would be a reasonable timeline for a grade I or II high ankle sprain given the very best treatment and rehab, and he was apparently a "game day decision" last week.  Jordan Phillips has been out 2 weeks, which is kinda typical for a hammie, but it'll depend on how they think he is.

I think we'll see Tre start to practice next week but not return to play until after the bye.

The player I am most concerned about is Poyer.  Two DNPs this week, No Bueno.

Oh and BYE the way, CBS claims IR is 4 GAMES not 4 WEEKS.  So the answer to why not IR Kumerow etc might be that we expect him back in less than 4 GAMES, given the bye week.

Poyer is just sore ribs.  He will probably play.  Edmunds and Know who knows.  Hammy's are a B word.

It's so weird because Edmunds played the whole game and looked fine after it. Like did he pull a hammy somewhere of the field?? Jogging into the locker room? Clowning and running for the team bus?

Minkah practiced today, albeit limited.  Tomlin said early this week that a bunch of guys are dinged, but will likely play Sunday.  Except Witherspoon.

On your comment about our DTs, I think Ed and/or Phillips are ready this week.  Bills wouldn't have cut Emili and Brewer, otherwise.

Much more likely these guys gutted it out, than something off the field.

It wasn't apparent when either got injured, as you said. It's totally possible we are managing reps/soreness, and both are active still.  Usually sitting Wed/Thur not good news, but we don't know for certain yet.  Fingers crossed they can be ready.

They cut one of (Emili, Brewer) to replace him with Zimmer, a guy who fought his way into the regular rotation on the 53 man roster last season.

But I agree with you - someone had film of Oliver working out with the head trainer before the Baltimore game, which means they thought he was a game time decision last Sunday.  "Game time decision" one week usually means "good to go" by the following week, barring setbacks.  I think Big Ed comes back.

But the other addition was a DB, which could mean they're concerned about Poyer.

One of the media guys seems to feel it was during the goal-line stand at the end of the game.  He commented "Edmunds went down like a blown tire, leaving so and so open" I think it may have been the 3rd-and-4 play.  So he got up and finished the series, then the D didn't see the field again.

Edit: I think Edmunds is limping slightly as he runs on the final play.

The problem is that KC could not be coming at a worse time...that is the Super Bowl ticket

Beat them in the regular season at KC last year...anything can happen.  The guy who has to be healthy for KC is Poyer.

The Edmunds & Knox hamstrings, are sorta a mystery in terms of both finishing the game and no apparent play that theyvleft injured.

Obviously will know more tomorrow. but sitting out Wed-Thur is usually not a good sign.

I think it may have been the 20 yd completion on the Bills final drive that got Knox.   He was upended ass-over-teakettle pretty good.

We did not have Milano for KC game last year and got it done anyway during regular season

Considering the injuries, making it to the BYE week at 4-2 would be a miracle.

Even with the injuries the Bills should have no trouble winning this week. The game at KC is a different story. Our depth is definitely being tested.

Yeah, but we did have everyone else.  I wouldn't be surprised if we are more banged up right now than we were in the previous three seasons combined.

Agreed, ESPECIALLY given the tough slate of opponents over the first six weeks.

4-2 at the bye would have me thinking 13-4 on the year and a first round bye.

13-4 might not get the bye.  If we lose to KC they would need to finish 12-5 or worse unless there is a 3 way tie where we get the breaker some how.  I don't see KC losing 4 more games with one of them NOT being to Buffalo.

They already lost to a TERRIBLE Colts team. They will lose some other unexpected games. Buffalo will too.

The colts played them the way we did last year.  Rush 4 and cover up on the back end.  Without Hill, I'm sure it makes it harder for Mahomes to find an open guy not named Kelce.

AZ blitzed something like 48% of the time I think.  I know Chargers and Tampa did a bunch as well (nowhere near as much but still did).

They need to make sure they keep that recipe against them with the improved defensive line we have.

But later in that drive he had a great block  out on the edge to spring Singletary. Who knows but hopes he’s okay because after Knox our TE depth is suspect.

We should just ask the guy who knows the AFC east better than anyone else.
