Cheektowaga Chad
I still think blackshear is on the practice squad Every team has their own version of an undrafted or late round rookie like blackshear. If you are claiming a guy you are expecting that player to contribute and contribute quickly which is a tough task for anyone let alone a rookie Duke Johnson is much more likely to get claimed in my opinion Edited August 21, 2022 by Cheektowaga Chad 1

sven233
At work all day, but caught most of the game. Can't wait to get home for a re-watch and be able to hone in on a few things I wanted a second look at. But, even while watching a ton of kids running around here at Niagara Kraze, I was still able to catch the obvious: 1. Josh Allen is 1 of 1. 2. Gabe Davis is going to explode this year. 3. Shakir needs to see the field. Reminds me so much of Bobby Trees it's uncanny. Such a nuanced route runner already and he's only a rookie. He's a steal. 4. As I mentioned in another thread, it's about time to start thinking about putting Aaron Kromer's name on the WOF. I mean the guy has Ford and Hart looking like they could be more than serviceable and that is a miracle in itself. 5. Dorsey, although using a limited playbook, is calling the offense extremely well. While I still want us to be passing 65%-70% of the time, he seems to have a knack of when a run might hit. And with the line blocking the way they did today, our RBs are more than capable in producing a solid, if not well above average running game. And if you give Allen a running game and time to throw like the QBs all had today, he is going to light the league on fire. He gets line play like he did today, he may have an all-time type of season. 6. The defense played well outside of the first drive even without 5 top tier starters. 7. The punt competition is over. Even though he didn't punt today, the punt god is the guy. Fact is, I don't plan on punting much this season. If we do, I am fine with kicking it through the end zone every punt no matter where we are on the field in most cases. With our defense playing the way I think we will this season, teams are not driving 80 yards on this defense for TDs on us consistently enough to keep pace with our offense. If he can pop a few inside the 20, that's a great bonus. 8. This is the deepest team I have seen us have......maybe ever. Those 90s teams were stacked, but they had holes for sure. We have spent too much time the last couple decades trying to justify bad preseason performances trying to chalk it up to not gameplanning, the starters not playing, etc. when in fact the team just didn't have talent. Well, this team showed its depth today and demolished a good team no matter if it was starters backups, etc. All day long every group dominated. 9. All that said above, this cut down to 53 is going to hurt badly. Some very good prospects are going to get cut and it's going to be very frustrating. With as good as this team might be, it may be time to take a chance and cut some of the older special teams only type of vets to keep some of the younger talent. Like I said above, if you want, with the legs that Bass and punt god have, just tell them to kick everything through the end zone and take the specialists right out of it for the most part and just hope that when you do need them, the younger guys can come through. 10. This team is just going to be flat out fun to watch this year. Sure, there will be struggles at times and there will be some frustrations for sure, but more often than not, we are going to be must-see. Florida Bills Fanatic
It might be a little too soon to think about this but I have to believe that Beane may be working the phones to work a trade or two. After watching this game, I believe the Bills have a surplus of o-line and d-line talent. Compared to what some other teams have for starters, Bills cuts will be an upgrade for them. Teams like Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston could make good trade targets. A trade could seem like a good option for teams that may feel that they will miss out on the waiver wire merry go round. Even a 6th or 7th round draft pick is better than letting guys walk and getting nothing.

The offense just seems to operate so smoothly and with a lot of confidence. I mean, when things are rolling the way they’re supposed to, they’re great…and then when the play breaks down, it’s even better sometimes. You can tell Allen and the WR group have great chemistry. They see Josh moving around to avoid pressure and they instantly know where to go and try to get open for him and if he spots them it’s a 35 yard laser beam for a TD. Yes. The touchdown to Davis was exactly as you describe. Josh knew he'd find Davis. And it certainly seems that Keenum did his homework last week, because he was so much more comfortable in the offense. Not there yet, but much better. Finally, how special Josh is becomes very apparent watching Keenum and Barkley. They run the same offense, but they're really working to deliver the ball to the places that Allen throws to effortlessly.
Stank_Nasty
5 hours ago, Logic said: Stock up: Ken Dorsey Forget the specific playcalling. It was the usual preseason vanilla. This "stock up" is because the offensive operation was crisp and efficient throughout. The playcalls got in on time, the personnel -- which shuttled in and out a ton -- was always where it was supposed to be, when it was supposed to be there, there were very few delays, miscues, and mistakes. This may seem like nothing, but as Steve Tasker mentioned during the game, it's something. Offensive line In both run and pass blocking, the offensive line had a good day. From the starters to the the third string. From Saffold and Bates to Hart and Ford -- they outclassed the Broncos in both the run and pass game all day long. Whether it was giving Keenum ample time to throw or paving the way for an all-runs touchdown drive, the offensive line came to play today. Aaron Kromer looks to have made a huge difference. Running backs All five looked good. Singletary and Moss hit the whole with decisiveness and quickness. Cook showed his speed and his pass-catching acumen. Johnson looked like the slippery, dependable vet he is. Blacksheer looks like a definite practice squad keeper -- if the Bills can manage to get him there! Between the performance of the offensive line and the entire running back depth chart, it sure LOOKS like the Bills are going to have an actual run game this season. Shakir and Hodgins Nothing earth shattering today. Just another series of good route running, quality catches, and good sideline awareness. Shakir also looked like a trustworthy punt returner. I didn't specifically watch Hodgins when he played special teams snaps, but offensively, he's certainly making his case for a roster spot. Case Keenum What a difference a week -- and being protected by the first team o-line and throwing to first team skill players -- makes. Actually, even when the backup linemen and receivers came in, Keenum STILL looked good. It's safe to say all the hand wringing about the Bills' backup QB position can end now. OJ Howard Again, nothing earth shattering here, but he showed a pulse. He made a few catches, one of which saw him use his frame and strength to outmuscle the defender and secure a touchdown. After being invisible all summer, it was nice to see him contribute. Defensive End depth Shaq hasn't forgotten how to stop the run, and he showed good contain on a scrambling QB a few times, as well. Epenesa continued to pressure the passer. At one point, he was chipped by a running back AND facemasked by a tackle, and he STILL got into the QB's face and hurried a pass. His development into what looks to be a quality contributor from the right side is HUGE for this defense, whose best edge rushers all perform better on the left. Boogie Basham had a few nice plays, too, as did Mike Love. Stock down: Penalties There was one sloppy, penalty-filled drive by the offense. There were silly penalties by the defense. On a day where just about everything went right, this is one thing that coach McDermott can bark at his players about after the game. Special teams I realize that the Bills' three best special teams tacklers -- Matakevitch, Jones, and Neal -- weren't playing. Nevertheless, the Bills gave up too many big kick returns today. When the opposing offense is regularly starting past their own 30 yard line, you're not doing a good enough job making tackles on special teams. Depth corners Jackson, Elam, Johnson, and Benford acquitted themselves just fine. After those four, the rest of the cornerback depth chart struggled all day. Granted, guys like J'Marcus Ingram are likely cuts anyway, but still. They did themselves no favors today. All in all, just about a perfect preseason game: No injuries, a resounding victory in front of a fired up home crowd, six straight touchdown drives, sound defense (for most of the first three quarters, anyway), and unstoppable seeming offense. Just about every unit of the team -- with the aforementioned exception of the special teams -- performed well. Today was about as much fun as a preseason game can ever be. One more preseason contest -- in which we'll see only fringe roster players and practice squad candidates -- and then it's onto opening night against the Rams. Gonna be a hell of a year. Picking nits here. Exactly how deep do you expect the corners to go? You just named 4 that were adequate and that’s not including the fact we get white back early season. I mean… even the deepest of teams aren’t going into the season 5 and 6 deep of solid corner play. IMO that’s just getting sorta greedy. 1

Beck Water
Joe B's take at the Athletic A few key points since it's paywall: -Bills in 11 personnel with Diggs, Davis, McKenzie for 5 of Allen's 6 snaps -TE during Allen's snaps were Morris (5 of 6 snaps), Sweeney + Gilliam (1 of 6 snaps). After Allen left the game, rotation of all 3 but Howard got the most playing time. Joe B speculates, could the Bills be looking to trade him? -After Diggs left the game, 11 personnel receivers were Davis, McKenzie, and Crowder. Joe B "reads the tea leaves" that might be a clue to how the Bills see the depth chart at outside WR. I will admit the thought of McKenzie as an outside WR has me swallowing my lips. -Quessenberry started over Brown at RT. Joe makes a case that Brown has had very limited snaps and is likely still working his way back. Brown played with the 2nd team. On the other side of the ball: -Elam and Benford alternated series across from Jackson, then played opposite each other after Jackson left. -DE pecking order seems to be Miller (did not play), Rousseau, Epensesa, Basham, then Lawson. -Cam Lewis seen playing Safety (every snap in the 2nd half) as well as playing all ST units. Joe speculates "showcasing for possible trade" And on ST: -Puntapalooza Fail: only 1 punt. By Haack. But Araiza held for every extra point, and he had a lot of those. You might be a bit premature on 1-4. I see what you're seeing, but it's preseason and a small sample of plays. And I'd caution that it's not unusual for some of the best teams to show real well in preseason. I watched a bit of the Chiefs, and Mahomes was the same old incredible Mahomes. And we're feeling a bit giddy just because we haven't seen anything at all like this for 25 years. It's really different. Still, I watch and get the same impression you do - that this team has great talent on top and quality depth, and the team plays sophisticated, disciplined, and effective offense and defense. Denver didn't have their best on the field, but the Bills didn't on defense, but later, when things evened out, the Bills still dominated. I hope the team isn't peaking in August and September, and I don't think it is. We haven't begun to see what the defense will look like with Hyde and Poyer and Miller and White back in the lineup. I guessed that Dorsey would be more creative and more effective than Daboll, and it already looks to me like he is. We haven't seen yet what they're really going to do with Cook, and we've already seen what he will add. We haven't seen jet sweeps or flanker screens or the other wrinkles that they'll run off the basic passing attack they've shown so far. This could be really special.
