Sugar High JA17
been thinking about this a lot, I'd hate to see Antonio Williams become something outside our team. He has talent as much as our unproven RB's...Give him a true shot! 2 1

You mean, the next preseason hero who gets cut, bounces around 3 teams with 0 starts for the next 3 years, then finally gets a shot 4 years out and has 166 rushes for 650 yds? You do realize that’s what happened to Joique Bell - it’s not like he switched to another team and was an immediate success elsewhere. And we don’t seem to regard 156 attempts for 687 yds (more yards on less carries) as very successful in these parts. 2
Sugar High JA17
Point is he was given a shot, 700 yards 10 years ago was more meaningful in todays pass happy no playing defense league 1

Did you mean it was more meaningful than it is today? Though wouldn't the opposite be true?

UConn James
It’s a crowded room, for sure. Hoping Antonio Williams gets a fair shot as a reserve, but may have to be on the squad. Like him as a change of pace / tactic back… more of a bruiser. But does he play STs well, ‘cause with this coach, you gotta do that as a backup. Taiwan Jones is now 33. There could be an opening. We really need Moss to come back strong from the injury. In midseason he was looking real good, especially for a rookie with a shortened camp.

Ya Digg?
So you want to keep a guy who, when given a shot, is able to rush for 600 yards? That’s an outstanding use of a roster spot for the next several years! Didn’t really want that extra lineman/receiver/cornerback anyway!

Mat68
Williams needs to make an impact on teams in preseason. He doesnt need to be an all pro but he does need to be solid. Terrell Davis doesnt become TD without playing special teams early in his career.
Allen2D̶i̶g̶g̶s̶TBD
A way better example would be Wyatt Teller who was a backup here and is now one of the highest rated guards in the NFL with the Browns.

Which I am hoping doesn’t end up being Cody Ford really hoping Cody balls out in summer shows that he is an excellent guard that way we don’t end up trading him At the end of the day or best guards may end up being Ford and lamp

Bell is not a good example. As Allen2Diggs says, Wyatt Teller is a far better example. I can't remember his name right now but another was a linebacker from maybe the '80s or '90s who didn't fit the scheme and had a long career elsewhere. They're few and far between, really. Your average third string running back or practice squad back has that ability today There's no reason to glorify a guy like that.. because there was another three bells that you could get undrafted this past year with the same talent There are dozens of starting division 1 running backs that go undrafted every year with that level of talent ... Tons of film on the guy Singletary and Moss may not be all pros, but they're not getting pushed by Williams yet.. he's a change of pace number two at best, if his career totally works out

He might be the best guard in the league, or at least it seems like he's currently respected as such. He's an animal and everybody in the league seems to know it. You've got to hope Baker continues to be inconsistent and weird because that team is beyond ready in the trenches.

DCofNC
I’m just hoping the coaches saw enough with Williams’ effort in the game he got in last year to give him a fair shake in camp. I don’t care what anybody says, right now, you have no clear cut starter at RB, everyone should be competing for every spot. Breida and Williams should have every opportunity to start over Moss and DS. I would love to see Moss (re)gain form and claim the starting job and have the same success he had in college, I think he can be a tier 2 type of starter at RB and that would be more than adequate in this O. Until that happens, everyone should be in play.

He taking up a valuable roster spot. Time to move on and find someone else who can run fast down the field to watch the return man take a knee in the end zone. Brennan Huff
We definitely don’t want another Da’rick Rogers incident. We cut him and he ended up having 14 receptions in his career. Simon Says
I would like to see Williams get a shot as the 3rd/4th RB . He was NC's special teams MVP so he should compete with Jones for a ST role. Jones isn't getting any younger.

Based on Williams having a good 2nd half against the Fish when the entire team was basically heading for the bus by that point. I would think the fact that 32 teams passed on Williams 7 times as opposed to Singletary and Moss both getting drafted, apparently none of the 32 GM's agrees with you. Mediocre high draft picks start over much better undrafted RB’s. I think it’s just risky for head coaches to give the ball to guys who are your underdog sleepers. machine gun kelly
If you believe in Antonio Williams, why wouldn’t you just state that directly and you’re rooting for him. I’m hopeful too, but measured in any excitement as he only played well in garbage time in the last game of the season against an opponent that all but gave up knowing we were the superior team. I’m confident he’ll get every opportunity in camp, and this coaching staff will give him a chance. I’ve said in other threads if he really wants to make the team, he’ll need to do something well in ST. He’ll have a much better chance at making a roster spot, and then can hopefully get worked in a game. As you know, you have to make the most out of an opportunity.
