Interesting. Likely takes them out of the 1st round quarterback market.

I'll forever LOL at Elway for passing on Allen and then taking Drew Lock the next year.

Yes/No as he only has a $5 million cap hit if cut next offseason so they could take a kid to groom behind him.

Just now, Virgil said:

Damn, a 6th and replaced by Darnold.  What happened to this kid?

He was only a game manager prior to his injury in 2016 and think it cost him development time.

Darn it, darn it, darn it.

My final mock which I am finalising to publish in the morning included the line "The Broncos have talked about competition for Drew Lock but I don't believe it comes in the first round of the NFL draft. Much more likely is a trade with the Carolina Panthers to acquire Teddy Bridgewater to allow the new GM to assess Lock in 2021 before taking a decision about the future at the position."

They stole my thunder!!!

Huh? When was he ever good?

Also this trade makes 0 sense for Denver. Why trade for a guy no better than Lock? Either draft a guy in the first round or let it ride with what they have.

To be fair to ELway, Chubb was rated much higher than Allen as a player and the thought of him paired with Miller made a ton of sense at the time. But yeah, I’m sure Elway can’t be happy in retrospect. As are several teams that passed on Allen, I’m sure.

The Broncos always seem to be a year off when it comes to drafting QBs. And from what I have read next year's QB class is not as good as this one.

Agreed.

And again: In 2018, they were in need of a QB, and Josh Allen played college ball just two hours drive from Denver. He was right in the Broncos' own back yard. But for some reason, for the first and only time in his life, John Elway decided NOT to draft a big, strong, fast kid with a howitzer for an arm -- only to turn around the next year and draft the bargain basement version of Allen instead.

I'll never, ever understand it, but will always be thankful it happened.

Yeah. And Chubb is a good player. But the old adage that unless you have a franchise QB, all other needs are secondary would seem to apply here. Clearly, they didn't think Allen could be a franchise guy, and they obviously weren't alone. Oh well. The Bills were the beneficiary of that wrongheaded decision.

There's no way that Teddy B and the 6th round pick they gave up takes them out of the QB market if someone falls to them.

I can only think he was scarred by the Brocketship and Paxton Lynch.

Exactly.  Good grief at least have the trade ready to go and wait to see what happens on draft night.

If they end up drafting a QB they just threw away $3M and a 6th rounder!

It shouldn't take them out of the QB market, but it probably will

As to the bolded. You know the old saying. When you have Case Keenum, you gotta draft a DE, so you can Trade Keenum for Joe Flacco and Drew Lock and then get destroyed on National TV by the QB you passed on.

What’s Teddy’s contract like? I feel it’s expensive for a backup?

We got a stake in Mitch Trubiski.  Guess he really did want to be near home, his family lives about 2 hours from Buffalo.

I'm telling you, it's Micah Parsons @ #9 for Denver.

What if he is gone at #7 to the knee biters? I agree if Parsons makes it that far he is Denver's pick but I hear that Detroit really likes him and is worried about the lack of depth to the linebacker class.

Somewhere, sometime, Denver fans are going to hear John Elway say, "We have to QBs capable of starting."  Somewhere someone is reported as saying, "If yout have 2 starting QBs, you don't have any.

Of course the main effect for the Bills is that it removes one of the mail obstacles to New England trading up to pick a QB.

And he could possibly. It wouldn't surprise me at all. I just think the need to get one of the top tier WR's will outweigh their thought of taking a LB. Their top 3 WR's right now are Tyrell (Mr. Glass) Williams, Breshad Perriman, and Quintez Cephus. That's a  group if I've ever seen one.

I don't understand Denver not targeting a QB. Bridgewater isn't good, and it's pretty clear that Lock isn't very good either.

I don’t think it takes them out of the QB market at all.  They could just be acquiring Bridgewater to be a, well, bridge QB.

I'm the one who's always saying here that none of us knows what we're talking about.   I've got to start making an exception for you.   That's really cool, that you called that.  However, you made one mistake.  You needed to publish Monday.   A trade like that happens in the week before the draft, not on the night of the draft.   So waiting to publish that prediction meant that you missed out on glory.

It is, for sure, their biggest need.

I agree except there are only so many reps available in TC. I think teddy is more of a backup though but if they took fields at 9, to me that shows they are done with Locke.

I think they should draft a QB, even if it means moving up. This is a good class. But I haven't believed they were going to at any stage.

He is afraid to throw the ball more then 10 yards downfield is what happened.  At least Lock is not afraid to let it rip.

If Drew Lock can't beat out Teddy Bridgewater this year to start for the Broncos, that's on Drew Lock.  I think his ceiling is much higher then Bridgewater's.  But I don't coach in the NFL.  So my vote doesn't count.

Haha it did. I was away seeing family last weekend so I am behind on my final batch of draft stuff which would normally have come last weekend.
