billsfan5121
I always thought it was funny that buffalo gets criticized for nothing to do, but I live outside DC, and while it’s bigger, I don’t know what we can do here that can’t be done in buffalo? To me, the only knock would be weather (I’d prefer buffalo to DC) and exposure on national tv? Otherwise, what’s buffalo missing?

letsgoteam
I'm going to sound very naive but that's ok. Never lived in a big city, so I might be missing something. So the super big cities what do they have that you can't do in any regular sized city. With the exception of national landmarks/famous things (ie: vegas-the casinos, nyc-timesquare, etc), what is missing? Since someone mentioned him, what was not in Buffalo that Jordan Matthew was missing out on that forced him to focus on at home activities? Perhaps I live a sheltered life, but when players say there's nothing to do, what are they really talking about? Is it code for something?
machine gun kelly
Not sure about the no fun in Buffalo comment as this is for the entire NFL. It’s actually a smart decision to protect the team’s investment meaning the players. The league is trying to get the players to protect themselves from themselves. They can do all that high risk behavior in the off season. They still will most likely be a % who still break these rules. They are risking their wallets though. The only way these rules changes were approved is if the NFLPA agreed with the league in these rule changes.

He just went to Magic City with some rapper to “pick up food” and the nba didn’t buy it and he’s grounded for 2 games. Just referring to high end nightclubs etc, which is one of the plAces they aren’t allowed to go to. Bills players usually say they spend more time at home or teammates houses. They used to go to Toronto sometimes but that’s not happening now either.

For some players it's clubs and parties with celebrities and supermodels in bikinis. And restaurants where you can drop $10K on one group dinner. As it pertains to those 24 yo millionaires, for some it’s the sheer volume of clubs, bars, nightlife and talent on the prowl. The bigger the city, the more of all that there is, and then of course there are places like Miami and LA that take it to even the next level. But there is enough of it anywhere that players can make poor choices and get into trouble. Will be interesting who else gets caught “ordering takeout from the strip club”. I don’t think it’s a large market vs small market thing but moreso some cities are just more tempting to go out and party like these rules are prohibiting. Miami, Vegas, LA, NYC, Chicago etc have the type of environment that is not what these players find in orchard park where most of them live. They can go downtown and some do live there but the high end nightclub scene is in Toronto. Edited July 27, 2020 by YoloinOhio

I never understood that smear against the city... I think part of it is also defensiveness of those with allegiance. I remember growing up there, This sort of institutionalized inferiority complex was ingrained. I think part of it had to do with its precipitous decline from a once nationally prominent city, that its always second to NYC at state level, the fact the winter can drag on a bit and be dark and dreary and those occasional lake effect snow dumps are one of the few things leading to publicity. For an introspective, watch “Buffaloed” ... a bit overdone, but there is some reality in there. Every time this topic comes up it’s always the same. Current residents are viscerally hurt, victimized and offended at the suggestion Miami might have better nightlife or NY might have better restaurants. of those who moved away, most are ok admitting that there might be places with more going on, because it’s not taken so personally or they don’t care what pro athleteS consider happening, as long as there is a Lowe’s, Home Depot, decent schools and Grocery store around the corner. I’m sure the same is similar for places like Cleveland, Green Bay and Cincinnati... etc. So Buffalo is not the best NFL city for clubbing, nightlife and entertainment. So what? Neither is Boston or Pittsburgh, but they’ve got lots o rings. Edited July 27, 2020 by Over 29 years of fanhood
