The Raiders have cap space, but how much actual money do they have? That came up around the time of the K. Mack trade. Huge upfront signing bonuses were said to be an issue for them. I don’t KNOW this to be the case, I just know it has previously come up. Is there anything to that?

I don’t see Brady going to an awful team for any amount of money.

The Raiders just sold out their PSL's and season tickets on their new stadium. Casinos buying up tickets basically gives them guaranteed money flowing. Cash is no longer an issue. Also it was more so rumored that Gruden didn't think Mack was worth the money as opposed to not having the money. After all they are paying Gruden 10 million a year.

Well, the PSL’s go to the stadium, right? Paying Gruden way too much. (I’m just not a fan of the guy, we’ll see how he does on the field, but he had a reputation for wearing people out.) The cash flow will certainly be nice as they will sell a lot of tickets. Many to out of towners, but a dollar is a dollar. I believe they still have one of the “poorer billionaires” as an owner, but things really should start looking up for them.

I heard BOTH as far as Gruden’s opinion and available cash being a consideration. It was too soon for them to be one player away, so maybe they played that right.

The Vegas move has flushed them with far more cash than they anticipated due to casino money coming in at a higher rate than realized. The Vegas move also has them flushed with cash in sponsorships and various other opportunities they didn't have in Oakland. Cash will not be an issue for them at least not in the next 5 year as they are guaranteed sell outs at premium prices and will see so much more money in other avenues.

I don't think the Mack move was motivated by money in all honesty. The very next season they were willing to pay AB about the same amount of money up front.

Seems odd to move out of Mass. (or NE) to find a prep school for his kid in...Tennessee?

Sounds strange, I know, but Tennessee has some crazy good boarding schools. Nashville is an excellent city for education at all levels, from elementary to Vandy medical or law. Nashville is also MUCH more than country music. It’s a medical research hub, for example. TONS of wealth in Nashville that most people are unaware of.

I have a buddy from Chattanooga who went to one of two boarding schools there that draw people from around the world (according to him, the filthy rich tax attorney). Who knew?

I’m NOT saying it’s true about Brady, but it could very well be legit.

I'm sure many states have a few nice private schools.  But he was in the vicinity of the very best;  Andover, Exeter, Choate, St. Pauls, Deerfield, Taft, Portsmouth Abby,  Milton, Hotchkiss......

I think the point isn’t that he’s looking to move wherever the best schools are. It’s that he is looking at the best schools in the cities where he’s considering playing. I don’t think that’s NE, anymore

Maybe for a kid named Brady, that’s the reason to get out. I’m not going to try to read into any of this or say what’s right or wrong. They will make their decision based upon what’s best for their kids and their family. I’m fine with that, wherever it may be.

Just freaking retire already. Geez.

The man has NOTHING more to prove.

Five easy to see motivations.

-Wife wants another private jet

-Wants to win more titles than Jordan

-Wants to prove he can win title without Belichick (if he leaves New England)

-Wants to finish career with most all time passing yards (about 3,000 behind Brees right now)

-Wants to show that the TB12 method works

Before we moved to Atlanta we came up to let our son shadow at a private school. They matched him (based upon scholastics, sports, etc.) with the son of Rich McKay. Had a great day, but we gave in and decided to rent a place so he could finish his senior year in HS in Sarasota.

HOWEVER, somehow my wife got in touch with Rich McKay’s wife, and she said “you know, we have a game this weekend. I’ll leave some passes under the front door mat.”  It was like the kids had a HS hoops game, drop by! So.....we have the parking pass, and they keep telling us to keep going, keep going, keep going until it felt like we parked in the end zone. I told my son “I know you don’t want to move, but you have to admit sitting in the President’s suite at an NFL game doesn’t suck.” He conceded that point.

Gotta prove he can win without the Patriots system and coach... at least that's the only thing anyone can hold against the guy at this point.

So you are saying it is okay for him to cheat and get calls from Zebras other players do not get as long it is for a team other than New England's?

I would not mind that ending as long as family is not with him.

Too soon?

Exactly. He goes to a team that really is his best option. A good defensive team, with the best running back, assuming they bring Henry back.
You could give Tom, Edelman, Gronk, and Moss from the glory days next year and it wouldn’t matter. Tom is done. He will look worse next year. I will bet anyone he doesn’t finish the season as a starter next year. Either gets hurt or benched.

This time you mean it?

I’ve never said that before, but I believe it now. He is the Frank Gore of QB’s. Sure he will look ok at first, then as the season wears on he will become less effective. Till eventually he is more of a hinderance than a help. Can’t have that in your QB.
You think he is going to get better than last year?

You can say that again.

From a football perspective Brady makes sense for the Titans, they have a top 10 defense, a beastly ground game, a good O-line and solid receivers (AJ Brown is a good WR, Humphries seems like a white slot receiver that would work great with Brady, and Smith as a TE is decent.) But I don’t see Brady being a game manager as a good deal for the Titans unless Tanny wants too much money and they would rather commit to Brady for one year than have a huge cap number for Tanny the next 2-3 years?

The more and more I think about it if Brady is going to leave he is going to the Raiders. Vegas presents a glamour opportunity and a fit football wise. Assuming the Raiders trade Carr for picks and little salary the Raiders would have about 76 million in cap space along with another up to 20-30 million in space depending on roster cuts.

The Raiders could give Brady a one year 30 million dollar deal and still have 40-70 million dollars in cap space to play with along with two picks in round 1 and two picks in round 3 and whatever picks you would get in a Carr trade to build the roster around Brady. It just lines up much better as the Titans would almost be improbably lucky to retain Conklin, Henry and add Brady let alone have any space to add players.

Who in the world is giving up picks to take on Carr’s salary?  The FA market is flooded with QBs that could be had without giving up draft capital.

I never got this.  People used to do it with Favre?  Dude loves to play and teams still will pay him a lot of money to do so.  He’a pretty healthy.  I like seeing great players play.

I mean personally, I would have retired years ago.  But for this dudes, retirement probably sucks.  I wasn’t close to his level but I just remember after my last college game, it just hits you.  There is no sport that compares to a football game.  When it’s ever, you realize you will never get that thrill again.  It sucks.

Carr's cap hit is only 21.5 million (which is modest for a QB who threw for 4k yards, 70% completion percentage and nearly 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio) and he is probably better than any QB on the market if not in the top 2.

I think the Raiders could easily get a 2nd round pick for him. Assuming Dak is franchised and extended, what QB on the market is better than Carr? I can't think of many.

I’m not on Twitter, but I did tell friends of mine over a beer that the Pats wouldn’t win a playoff game. This was back in December after the Pats had just beat the Bills. Not too bad for a fool.

I'm surprised the Patriots are that dumb to pay a washed up QB 30+ mil for one season.

I'm sure Belichick isn't signing off on this one.

Kraft really wants to hold on to the past and can't see the future

I’ve listened to a little WEEI this week just to get their take and they don’t seem to think Belichick will be on board with paying him what he can get on the open market. The Boston media really seems to think he’s gone, saying all signs point that way. But Kraft seems to really want him back.

I keep wondering what Belichik's attraction to the Pats is anymore.   He's got a rebuilding job ahead of him and could name his price at any of the networks, if he wanted to do TV.

What more does he have to prove...

Or the Patriots put this story out there so that when he leaves no can say they didn't try to keep him. I find it funny that if he ends up on any team he's been linked to - Titans, Raiders, Chargers, Patriots - we will still face him next year. We can't shake him.

Money is meaningless to Brady at this point in his life.  Do the math:

He and his wife net worth over $500m by all accounts.  This past year, assuming his investment advice was average, they made roughly $75M in interest alone, forget salaries etc.

The difference in getting paid $20M or $30M is roughly $6M after taxes.  Essentially what he makes in one month of interest.

Would you uproot your entire family, change schools, community, and leave your long time relationships behind to increase your net worth by 1%?   If you have $2Mil in the bank thats like moving across the country for $20k.  "Hey kids, we're selling the house. Say goodbye to your friends, we've got a shot at $20 thousand. What?  Oh no we'll never spend it, but...you know...MoNeY...

The guy is an egomaniac competitive freak who still feels he has "something to prove", which i find rather sad for a guy w 6 rings.  He's looking for a team that can get him to another superbowl, the money is meaningless.

A divorce (inevitable) will put a major dent in Brady's net worth.

I love, love, LOVE that Brady is playing the Patriots.  I hope he gouges the hell out of them.
