AlCowlingsTaxiService
Hadn’t seen them since the 2112 tour ... and the Rush sub-theme made the film “I Love You Man” somewhat tolerable. NP could tell a story with the drums like very few others ... RIP
skibum
If you are from Western New York, and you like to rock, there's little doubt you have air-drummed 'Tom Sawyer' in your car on the way home from a long day at work. Legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart, considered by many the GOAT, passed away this week at age 67, after a 3 year battle with brain cancer. Post your Rush-related memories and tributes here! Success
I lost track of Rush, but 2112 was part of my formative experience as a music fan. It's hard to forget the 1st time I heard it - it stood out from everything else, completely. Recently, I saw a doc on them, and they were talking about the making of that record. It was really a "last shot" kind of record w/ their label - they weren't catching fire, and it was a final chance. Their manager kept promising that it would be an accessible record with "hits," and instead, they went into the studio & stayed true to their own vision, even though they knew it wasn't commercial. That takes incredible courage artistically. And, of course, the rest is history. The built their own niche in that world, and an incredibly loyal following. Goes without saying that Peart was a legend. He influenced so many.

Peace Frog
I was in the Navy in the mid '80s and stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station, north of Chicago. Saw Rush in July of '84 (Grace Under Pressure tour). Neil was one of my favorite drummers, along with John Bonham, and Keith Moon. He will be sorely missed. davefan66
RIP I can still remember sitting oranges in the old Aud just to the left of the stage. Mr first time watching Rush live. Watching him wail on the drums, and suddenly the kit spins and he plays a second kit behind him. Wails on that, and it spins again right into the Tom Sawyer intro. He was the most technically clean drummer I ever saw. His stick handling was impeccable, his rhythm flawless. He was an amazing musician. davefan66
What sucks is we’ll never be able to see him play live again. Was holding out hope Rush would do another, maybe smaller, tour. So glad I got to see them as many times as I did, and for their last tour. I’m not saddened by many celebrity deaths, but this one is different. It truly hurts. RIP and Godspeed.
