What was the Bill's Play-of-the-Decade?

Three words:

Bacarri F’ing Rambo

(or Mario’s subsequent strip-sack safety to seal the win against the Packers)

It was a pretty meaningless game in the grand scheme of things, but ***** that was a fun day.

I am going with a Moment not a play. The best moment in a Decade of Bills football was clinching the playoffs in week 15. After beating the Steelers.

It really wasn’t a thrill as it was very likely to happen with 3 games to play. More of a relief for me anyway..

i guess none of the plays Bills made count for you.

I'd take hurdle LB for 200 as best play of the decade.  QBs are not supposed to do this kind of thing.

2000-2009 yes since he made quite a number of special teams plays offense plays but not this decade.

Nope. None of the Bills plays compare, imo.

So a couple of observations in reading through the various response:

1. No special teams play comes to mind at all that was a game changer.  In the previous decade some Terrence McGee KO returns would have made the discussion

2. For as dynamic a player Tyrod was, you'd figure that he would have had a play that everyone remembers, but none really come to mind that rise up as a candidate

3. No monster defensive plays have been identified that made a difference

My favorite play of the decade came on September 25, 2011 -- Bills & Patriots tied at 31-31 in the waning minutes - Bills had the ball at the Patriots 39 yard line - Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Fred Jackson with a pass over the middle & Fred burst down the field to the goal line. At first it was called a touchdown - then was reversed to a spot at the one yard line. We wound up kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. That catch & run by Jackson still brings a smile to my face - what a finish that was! All the better that it was a play that beat the Patriots* ....

This play was massive in the history of the Bills.

Was Something that hasn't happened in this decade.

IMO since Moorman's highlight days special teams have been generally only so so.  A few plays here and there - a block, amazing tackle, etc - but Bills used to be known for special teams and were considered one of the top teams regarding special teams.  I always look at special teams as a wild card where a special play can turn a game but aside from long FGs, a kick downed in shadow of goal posts, etc. we have not had that anymore.

I actually like the idea of having a Brad Smith/Joe Webb/Taysom Hill type that can play WR, ST, KR, and be an emergency QB. I would always want one of those dudes on my roster. He'd also be my holder on place kicks to keep the threat of a fake alive on all attempts.

I think I about Jalen hurts for that role.  It might work for him.

I agree with both of these.  If it's a play, it's obviously the 4th and 12.  If it's a Bills play, then I'm with you on the Allen sneak.  It's the symbolism of what Allen did; it was the play of that game, and that was the game where we seem to have shucked off the mediocrity of most of the past two decades.

Allen's hurdle in the Vikings game was slightly better, I think.

As far as other plays go, I'm sure there were some spectacular plays from Fitzpatrick (Owens TD), Fred Jackson, Tyrod Taylor, LeSean McCoy, others that would qualify. I'll watch some highlight videos and report back later.

Not even close. Breaking the 17 year playoff drought was a far more impactful moment. Dalton 4th and 12 had so much significance and meant a lot more than just making the playoffs for this team.

Oh, that strip sack by Mario on Aaron Rodgers has to be discussed here. That was an amazing play.

Next year will have another flip at WR. I suspect Brown, Beasley, and maybe McKenzie (maybe) are the only holdovers. You can say Andre Roberts is technically a WR but I think he is only a specialist next year barring injuries.

I hope Christian Wade  practices catching kick offs and punts, like 1000 per day for the next 6 months.

Brian Moorman was still on the team at the beginning of the decade.  I wonder if he would be the guy who made the play of the decade. ?

j/k   j/k

The Moorman fake FG TD pass to Denney was in 2009, so arguably the best play of the last decade.

In terms of positive plays Fred Jackson trucking Conte in Chicago jumps out, Sammy vs. Minnesota, EJ vs. Carolina, Charles Clay in Atlanta, Josh sneak in Dallas, Josh hurdle in Minnesota and the Kyle Williams TD. These all popped right into my head and I’m sure there are tons more but don’t want to keep listing.

FTFY.

It has to be Dalton's TD pass to end the drought. But if we are being technical and it actually has to be a Bills play then my vote would go to Dreyton Florence's pick six against Brady to finally beat New England.

Hopefully this weekend Allen can give us a new play of the next decade that we will view as the point at which our next dynasty started.

If we are talking a play that involves the Bills it may be the Stevie Johnson drop.

I also considered this play. While it is a negative play, let's face it, it was a terrible decade of Bills football and what play better represents how snake bitten we were for the majority of the decade? It should at least be an honorable mention.

Another vote for Dalton to Boyd TD here. I’m also good with the McCoy blizzard run against the Colts. The Kyle Williams TD run against the Dolphins in the 2017 finale was also awesome, especially considering what happened with the Bengals game shortly after. I‘m only willing to pick plays from 2017-2019. The rest of the decade we were a team with no direction going nowhere, so who cares about great plays that had no meaning? I only remember great plays that are part of something bigger.

I like Allen’s leap over Minnesota last season. That to me stood out as a moment where you could say the bills are different now.

The leap was nice but his 4th and 1 conversion against Dallas I think better sets the tone of this current Bills team and who Allen is. Never giving up on a play and out muscling defenders.

Florence's pick six was huge. We likely don't beat New England without it. I think that is still the only real game that we have beaten the Patriots with Brady (for the entire game) since the 2003 31-0 blowout.

I think Dalton to Boyd on 4th and 12 was the Bills moment of the decade.

But it certainly wasn't the Bills play of the decade, because there were no Bills players involved.

If we're looking at Bills plays, there are 2 types that stand out:

Those that were thrilling at the time, but didn't move the needle much for the franchise in the long run;

and those that were maybe less than thrilling in the moment, but represented the changing of the guard.

For the former, 3 plays stand out to me:

1. Fred Jackson rumbling to the NE goal line in 2011.

2. EJ Manual's game winner v. Carolina

3. Kyle Orton's game winner v. Minnesota

And for the latter, 4 plays stand out to me:

1. Stevie's drop v. Pit

2. Kyle's TD run v. Mia

3. Josh's hurdle v. Min

4. Josh's scramble for first down v. Dal

I’ll go with Kyles TD against the Fins. At the time it seemed like it started a blowout, but Miami came back and if I remember correctly this TD ended up being the game winning points.

If the Bills didn’t beat Miami, the Bengals game wouldn’t have mattered.
