Mason Rudolph was trying to rip Garret's helmet off when they were first on the ground. Looks to me Mason started the whole thing and Garret took it to the next level which he shouldn't have done. But, Mason started the whole circus and he acts like it's all on Myles, not the case when you go back and watch it from the start.

No.

Garrett started the whole thing by slamming Rudolph into the ground and giving the hit a little something extra particularly considering the score and time remaining on the clock.

That's what pissed Rudolph off to begin with.  He then greatly accelerated the whole thing by starting to pull off Garrett's helmet.

That in turn pissed off Garrett and he started to rip off Rudolph's helmet, then hit him on the head with it!

Pouncey reacted to the helmet hit by kicking Garrett, punching him, waving his arms around like a little girl, and generally engaging in conduct unfitting for a man, particularly one as large and strong as him.

After the helmet hit, Ogunjobi comes out of nowhere and body slams Rudolph to the ground for good measure!

As is always the case with these NFL incidents, despite the size and strength of the combatants, the "fighting" is embarrassing and there weren't many punches thrown.  I'm amazed at the weak reaction from the Pittsburgh OL considering that Garrett basically raped their QB on the field.

These big OL guys are all like big dogs.  Peaceful and wimpy by nature.

It's the little scrappy terriers that try to rip your head off.

HOLY CRAP -- I didn't catch one second of the game last night and come on here to see something unimaginable.  Garrett is done.  I don't care what Rudolph did, this is assault, not a fight.

Please.  I'm guessing a couple of games suspension.

I will be watching, but this used to happen all the time in the NHL 20 years ago.

That second "revenge game" almost never played out as hoped for, you know?  9 out of 10 times it was a disappointment.

It won't help if Garrett is suspended and therefore not playing as well.

If he was in the game, there might be more opportunity for some rough stuff to occur.

Stock up for Pouncey - exactly what you want (wish we saw this reaction when Gronk went after White)

stock up for Baker - post game interviews were solid

stock down for Rudolph - bit off more than he could chew and looked like a brat during the scrum and in his interviews

stock down for Garrett - season likely done and will forever be remembered for this

Pouncey!?  I give him credit for actually trying to do something, but come on man!  You're 6'4" and 305 pounds!

Why are you flapping your arms around and kicking like a little girl?

The general reaction from the entire Pittsburgh OL was weak.

Well....it looks like I went to be about a minute too early.  Dude should be charged with felony assault. .....I dont thinks there has been a Browns game this year that Garrett hasn't had at least one roughing the passer penalty.  A team full of scum bags. If NFL is so concerned about safety they need to make the punishment severe.

I've watched the Sabres tonight and have been watching them since 1970.

Fighting in hockey is controlled.

IF A HOCKEY PLAYER BEAT ANOTHER PLAYER WITH HIS STICK then come to me and we will compare this incident.

On the other hand if you can't see the difference don't respond to my post.

They also don't allow a player to punch with the gloves on.

The NFL attempts to put Garrett out there like some savant artist.   Similar to a lot of people who live by emotion he seems to have himself quite the anger problem.

I went to bed just before this happened, too.  I'd think Garrett is facing a rest of the season suspension.  That was insane.  But Pouncey is also looking at a suspension for kicking Garrett when he was down.

Poor Myles Garrett. Poor DE getting pushed around BY A QUARTERBACK. Dude, really? Garrett just committed felony assault out there. He's *****. He should lose a season.

This line of thinking is garbage. Was Garrett wrong in what he did? Absolutely. Should he be suspended? Again, absolutely.

But Rudolph, QB or not, tried to tear off his helmet while twisting his neck AND kicked him in the junk, and then kept after him too. And he's 6'5" and 240lbs. He's not some defenseless and innocent bystander as it seems he's being portrayed as.

After  Fredo Kitchens stupid response as to whether the team has a discipline problem,  and his lack of accountability I'll be surprised if he's still coaching the team next year.

He sucks.  Can’t believe we lost to him and that team.

For serious or for fun? Do you imagine Garrett was laying on top of Rudolph and being silent? Or do you imagine he was running his mouth while having a grown man pinned down. In either case, what reaction was he trying to get by doing A or B?

He tried to clown Rudolph who then tried to pull off his helmet and then Garrett went bonkers because he didn’t want to get shown up. If you’re not being a punk you don’t end up in fight. This is the third stupid and borderline violent thing he has done this year. Any incidents of Rudolph losing his mind in the NFL or in college?

Watch Rudolph's press conference. He goes on about Garrett being a coward and then has this little smirk like a little kid who just got away with something.

Rudolph was pissed that he got hit on a play with 8 seconds left but if you don't want to get a hit don't run a play. They weren't going to win, the play clock had more time than the game clock so they could have just kneeled the game out.

Rudolph instigated a fight and Garrett definitely escalated it way beyond where it should have been. Both should be punished with Garrett obviously getting a more severe punishment.

Rudolph deserves a game off, as does Pouncey and ogunjobi.  Garrett deserves the rest of the season off.

rudolph definitely came off as a brat that bit off more than he could chew.

These 2 teams meet again in 16 days , the feeling the vibes between these 2 teams is gonna be very ugly and just not right . I wonder who is going to win that game ?? Will the Browns sweep the Steelers or will the Steelers split with the Browns ???

That history has NOTHING to do with this current Bills team.  Simply no correlation.  At all.

While that’s true, it’s also true that for whatever reason we struggle there historically. That and Pitt is a physical team, which we’ve proven on a couple occasions this year that we haven’t matched up well with.

I still trust our D to keep things close and hopefully over the next couple of weeks the O finds some rhythm and consistency.  I dont think it will be easy in Pitt at all but I also dont think past history means anything.

It would almost be like saying if the Bills were good enough to get to the Super Bowl in the next few years that they might struggle because historically the Bills struggle in Super Bowls.

Thank you Cleveland. Now the Bills need to do their part on Sunday and we will have some separation from Pitt standings wise. Also that game at Pitt looks more winnable even though Allen vs the Steelers D makes me nervous. I have no doubt the Bills D will cause problems for Pitt. Now go Squish the Fish.

I agree. There are still plenty of games left to play in the season. At this point the AFC doesn’t appear to have a super team despite what some think of NE. (They’re four week test starts on Sunday.) So warts and all the Bills need to keep moving forward. Beat the teams you should, starting with Sunday afternoon in Miami. I’m pretty sure the rest will take care of itself.

I get it, I really do. I think the D will keep it close too. I just can’t remember the last time we’ve won in Pittsburgh. It’s a tough place to play, and while that history should have absolutely no barring on what they do this game, unfortunately our history seems to have been a pretty good indicator of future success with this organization. Frustratingly so.

RE: the quoted section, you know people will be talking about our super bowl history up and down if we ever make it back. Too much pain in our history. Also, I kind of look at it like a burden to whatever team makes it back. There’ll be a little extra pressure on them (warranted or not) to make up for the 90s team failures in the big game. Some of it will be media driven. Some of it will be fan driven. But they’ll hear it. Something I’ll gladly take though, to be back in the Super bowl.

There are pictures now of Rudolph hitting Garrett in the junk twice, once right before the helmet swing.

Flip the kicking game in the games and it's a different outcome.

Oh there were plenty of spots to win that game. one more D stand, the O scoring or at least getting closer for the FG attempt....anyway. Point was, we lost to a pretty badly coached, disorganized, undisciplined, average-at-best team.

Those are the games we have to win. It's depressing.

Garrett absolutely deserved it. As former NFL players are already confirming

It doesn't matter that Garrett deserved it.  Kicking and punching another player is wrong under any circumstance.  Since Rudolph started the whole fight by trying to rip Garrett's helmet off, did he deserve it?  Of course not.  Football is a violent enough game as it is without players taking matters into their own hands.

Well, so.  True confession time.  I didn't see the end of last night's game.  I'd been up super early getting ready for our HVAC installers to show up at 7 am, and I was wiped.  I hit the sack at halftime.

I was all prepared to feel kinda good about the result, because the (before the game) 5-4 Steelers have managed to beat some teams that are talked about as legit -

the 4-6 Chargers, the 5-4 Colts, the 5-4 Rams.  I didn't hear anyone talking to them as "pretenders" or "not as good as their record".  Instead I heard praise for Tomlin's outstanding job coaching etc etc.

Anyway, for the Steelers to get thumped like that by them 21-7, I thought made it clear that maybe the Brownies have their act together now and we weren't just a puppy the little dog got a piece of.

I can't feel good about the way that ended though.  Yuck.  Just....Yuck.

Minus the Garrett helmet stuff, I love the brawling. It's nice to see teams show some emotion and hatred for the other team. Hockey is really missing the big hits and fights.
