Right, an injury, the pats sucking, or even just waking up one monday morning and saying the hell with this, anything could be the end at this point but at least there might maybe be light at the end of the tunnel and for once for us Bills fans maybe it isn't a freight train
Rc2catch
The Pats are 100% a running team now, at this stage of his career Brady is a glorified game manager. He was dangerous cause he would kill you on short range and dump offs but you had to respect his deep shots down the field. His running back had 8-900 of those yards. I just listened to the midday guys on WEEI, Boston (WGR's sister Entercom sports talker) and even they were saying there are a lot of questions about the Patriots going into this season, not the least of which is Brady's age. They didn't go as far as say they wouldn't be a Super Bowl contender but they talked about Brady having no proven receiver outside of Edelman, who has a thumb injury, no TE, and a rookie LT slated to start. I laughed out loud when they talked about the Pats evolving into a "defensive, run-heavy team." (I think @SoTier calls that Jauron-ball The very thing he thinks McDermott is doing and hates.) I'd not call him a game manager, yet. Having said that, his performance clearly fell off the last few games & playoffs last year. It reminds me of Kelly's last year or two where he just didn't have the arm strength to force the ball like he had earlier in his career. The savvy veteran QB has a lot of tricks to get the job done beyond arm strength, but once that goes, the writing is on the wall. When the Pats lose a game because TB throws a couple bad interceptions, I'll start to feel more confident that the end is upon him.

No, that's NOT what I call Jauron-ball at all. Playing not to lose is Jauron ball or Fox ball or Fisher ball. It discounts offensive football and relies on the defense to keep the score low and force the opposition to make mistakes. Belichick never plays not to lose, and a good running game is still offensive football.

TigerJ
I do think the Patriots are planning on transitioning away from Brady. They started to do so last season by running the ball more. Despite having a solid group of running backs, they added Damien Harris, who is probably good for 20 -25 carries per game if they actually wanted to use him that much. Brady is still going to have a lot of passing yards and completions, but Belichick is planning on making things easier for Brady by forcing opponents to focus more on stopping the run. I can't say for sure that the Patriots won't extend Brady one more season, but I can't see them offering more than 15 million. They are just planning on not having to depend on a superstar at QB, and won't want to pay him like one either. Augie
I could be way off in this, but didn't Miami have issues with Wayne Huizenga offering Marino some exclusive access to IPO’s back in his wheeling and dealing days? SlimShady'sSpaceForce
IIRC It was said that the Pats*** won't work on contracts later in the year. If that is true then this will linger for 4 or 5 months. If Tommy starts to play poorly throughout the season, then this smoldering twig will turn into a raging fire. WhitewalkerInPhilly
I'm going to concur with the "We should be so lucky" It was clear in the playoffs that Brady had lost some of his mojo, especially in the Rams game. He looked very mortal. That said, I've been predicting his backslide for close on 8 years now, and it keeps not happening. Even if Brady's play is half of what it was in 2017, he still might make a case for best QB in the division just because everyone else is so raw. (2018 draft picks all). Until I see otherwise, I consider the Pats the team to beat in the division. But man oh man, would it be sweet to watch Brady get pummeled into retirement this year. Hey, I can dream, can't I?
