Williams was relieved of his duties. Sucked for him cuz he lead a team who had won 3 of 40 games to 5 wins in 8. He’ll be a coaching candidate next year. It will be interesting to see who Kitchens brings in to run the D. Since he is totally an offensive coach he’ll need a strong D coordinator. Perhaps Vance Joseph? He likely asked to be cut loose as soon as he knew he wasn’t getting it so he could quickly pursue a DC job elsewhere. Wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up with Kingsbury, who could use his experience. It's a Schwartz situation.

BarleyNY
Heard from several people with close ties to the team that they thought Kitchens was the right choice. That has been the case for weeks. The Execs are very smart to not be shortsighted by a few wins. Williams is super arrogant and he will get prickly. At the first sign of adversity he will alienate half the team and front office. Good move to go in a different direction now.

Big Turk
Wow...talk about a rapid ascension...he will find out quickly being a HC is far more of a managerial role than a X's and O's role...gonna need to be doing a lot more than just runing a good offense for Mayfield... Personally think he is in way over his head right now...usually these position coaches who get hired as a HC are assistant head coaches and are introduced to HC duties and decisions for fairly lengthy periods of time...the NFL is nowhere yo try and figure this stuff out on the fly...they are kind of throwing him into the deep end and hoping he can swim... Odds arent in his favor. Even when the Browns try to follow the trend in the league they screw it up... Well. It sort of fits with the hypothesis in that article (other thread) that the NFL is run mad right now over young, offensive minded coaches with no track record of failure.

No...Lynn was an Assistant Head Coach for a LONG time where he was introduced to these types of things and was mentored on how to handle things and was in meetings when these things came up...Kitchens had none of this... Basically this is the equivalent of giving a dude in the stands the key to a NASCAR car and telling him to go drive it... Well...running an offense is a lot different than running the team, making tons of non football decisions and having them take up huge amounts of your time, knowing how to hold other coaches accountable and how to interact with them as the leader. With no real experience with any of this all I can say is good luck. My prediction is they realize he is in way over his head pretty quickly. Man, this guy has been running backs coach, has a partial season as OC and one game at HC, he's way over his head. Now we're talking about "the coach that got away" and the Chargers have a chance to take out the Patriots. Wasn't Kitchens officially "running backs coach and associate head coach" at the start of the season? Maybe he's over his head, or maybe he's got this. Holy crap! From Wiki: " In 2013, Kitchens underwent emergency surgery to repair an aortic dissection.[6] "

A tomato is scientifically categorized as a fruit as it's technically the means by which a plant spreads it's seed and not the plant itself. However, the Supreme Court deemed them vegetables in a case involving the Tariff Act of 1883. The more you know. At any rate, I'm sure Fast Freddie Kitchens will be cookin up some serious gameplans for his young Baker.
