26CornerBlitz
Sources: McDaniels spurns Colts to stay in NE After two days of reflection and conversations with the New England Patriots, New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has decided not to accept the Indianapolis Colts' head coaching job, league sources told ESPN. In the past 48 hours, Patriots owner Robert Kraft began talking with McDaniels and ultimately wound up sweetening his contract, helping to entice him to remain in New England rather than leave for Indianapolis, which announced it would be holding a news conference Wednesday to introduce its new head coach. But McDaniels did not have a signed contract with the Colts, according to a source. But this wasn't a decision about money. The truth is, McDaniels has been vacillating on this decision throughout the interview process, ever since meeting with the Colts on wild-card weekend. It is the reason a second meeting with Colts officials and team owner Jim Irsay was held. McDaniels was trying to get comfortable with the idea of taking his family out of New England and moving it to Indianapolis.

BB explained to him exactly what to say and do to prevent that from happening. After all, who else has any experience in this sort of thing but him. He'll teach him how to do it and even avoid losing draft picks.

clayboy54
Probably right, Ed. The shame is that the Pats don’t have to honor the rules everyone has has to obey, in this case contract law.

Gives him a shot to be a HC again and prove himself and if it doesn't work the Colts hire from a larger HC/coordinator pool in the off-season. Magox
There probably was a conversation that entailed the strong possibility that McDaniels would be the heir apparent to the hoodie, and it will probably be the year after next.

Brianmoorman4jesus
Telling McDaniels he will have the job after B.B. leaves will go over well with the Rooney rule stuff. No matter what they say, everyone is going to assume that’s why he stayed. Good luck trying to convince anyone that they followed the rules, if he ever takes over. 2

transient
I hope when McDaniels fails miserably after Belichick leaves and is fired after two seasons that he looks back and realizes his career was atop the bridge he carelessly set ablaze. Moving from the cesspool (from a family point of view) of New England, to the land of milk & honey is a no brainer. McD is postured to be the next HC of the patsies. BuffaloRebound
Belichik and Krafts word that he'll be coach are worthless. Belichik will coach until he wants to just like Parcells. McDaniels most likely got cold feet about Colts organization.
