Succesful Season?

Do you consider a Playoff berth and two first round picks a successful season even if we lose the wildcard game?

How many people predicted the Bills to win more then 5 games before the season started?  We not only exceeded expectations as a team and got the 17 year drought off our shoulders, but have two picks in the first round. The picks currently are slotted around  20 to mid 20’s. Brandon Beane & Co. have some options either to trade up for ‘our guy’  or get some talent at other positions,  all while trading some big contracts and freeing up some cap room.

Do the Bills need to win a playoff game to consider this season a success or are you happy with just getting to the playoffs and hoping for a win?

Yes. Easily.

1. They ditched high end guys who didn’t fit what they wanted to do on the field, or didn’t fit the chemistry of the group they were trying to build. Watkins, Darby and Dareus headlines it, but letting Gilmore walk without a worry, and changing over approximately half the 52-man roster to begin shaping in the form they want to build has been a pretty big success.

2. The team did a couple things it hasn’t done since the drought began. And while we ended it because of tie breakers, I believe this team was different in this way. A) they went through a losing streak mid-season (Jets, Saints, Chargers), and bounced back, particularly after the Tyrod benching and re-starting in LA. B) this team won two road games the likes of which I haven’t seen them win since before the drought. First was in Atlanta, and second was in Kansas City. Both good teams, both tough places to play.

3 They got the biggest monkey off their backs in pro sports. That drought was dragging this team down on an organizational level. Now they can simply focus on becoming an annual contender.  It selling everything to make the playoffs just so they can say they did.

4. Lastly, as stated by the OP, they’ve got 4 of the top 65 picks in this year’s draft.

We made the playoffs and ended the drought, cut players who were not fits or wouldn't buy in, added tons of future salary cap space and draft picks and the coaching staff have shown they can develop talent.  Its a very successful opening season with a management group that has bought themselves a lot of time to fully see their plan through.  Trust the process!

Edit: Dkollidas beat me with a better post of the same content.

Absolutely.  My sons have never seen a Bills playoff game (16,14,8).  We've rarely had multiple picks to build with.  We appear to have a coach and GM worth having.  This is a tremendous season for lots of reasons.

This was a fun year. I traveled 8 hours north to see a Bills game and it was great. I pounded some buffalo chick in the lines for the johns and me and my friend were invited to snort some coke by Bills fans. So yes, it was a successful year.

Ok....dork.

Yes, highly successfully season. Coach McD should be a shoo-in for coach of the year.

Yes , Much better than last year . Big improvements and we are in the Playoffs . Sure there were mistakes made and even some foolish moves but at the same time there was a lot of learning and good discipline with a good coach for being a first year coach .

GO BILLS !

Right this moment, no...  We're 0-0 and in the playoffs.  Super Bowl or bust.

However, when it's all settled, if we end up losing in the playoffs somewhere, a resounding yes.  As I told my wife yesterday, no matter what happens, nobody can take away that feeling I had on Sunday.  Last weekend was truly one of those "best moments ever" type of feelings.  Last December, this team was floundering around in mediocrity with Rex Ryan and Doug Whaley as coach/GM.  There was no plan.  It was just another "Groundhog Day" season all over again.  Now, they actually have a plan, a coach, and a GM all working as one.

I recall during the great run of the 90's when the Bills made 4 SB appearances, that one of those appearances was as a Wild Card.   They didn't win the big one....and I don't remember which one it was....but, they took that wild card all the way to the SB.   Not sure this team is made of that stuff....but, I would be thrilled (again) if they got another crack at NE and the Brady/Gronk dark side stars.

Comeback game against the Oilers in 93 was a wildcard game.

Yes definitely!

I know it sounds corny, but I am really excited about this "process." We saw a lot of changes, but I think we are going to see a lot more in year two. I think we will see an almost full makeover of the offensive and defensive lines and the line backing crew. I think the rebuilt secondary was really the biggest change and had the most impact, but I feel like Beane and McDermott are just getting started. I am curious to see what McDermott and Beane can do with a full off-season, some cap space, and a lot of draft picks.

I guess my point is that this team has not turned over completely. McDermott and Beane have begun building this roster the way they want it to be as they have made the changes they could in a short time. The job is only half way complete, and we still made the playoffs.

oh my god you suck at life

Let's see what you are posting come August if TT or some other crap QB is lined up behind center leading the Bills to an another 7-9, 8-8 season.

In the meantime since they are in the playoffs, and my wish of a franchise QB through the draft is waning, I hope they put up a good fight on Sunday. :)
