Didn't see it mentioned in here, but I got around to watching Dolemite Is My Name during one of my recent flights...man that movie is so good. Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes in particular are just awesome. Just a really well-made fun movie. I totally get why it's getting some award buzz.

One of my 2019 favorites. It could have been low-brow schlock but they created complex characters while making it entertaining and hilarious without using forced melodrama to propel the story.  IMO, Eddie Murphy deserved the Gold Globe Award.

Just finished up messiah...thought it was very good.

This is good to see. I'm 4 episodes in. Reminds me in some ways of The Leftovers, which is the best show I've ever seen in the "people dealing with the unexplained" category.

Someone above mentioned Bloodline. That was a good show. Dark, but good.

I liked S2 better because the main chick in S1 was annoying and the side characters in S2 were far better.  I didn't love how they handled the old girlfriend but I thought S2 was better.

I thought the general gist of the ending was very predictable and knew it about mid season.  I didn't know every specific detail of how it would play out but I was certain of the main component.

I also disagree on the too much Ellie.  I thought that made sense and was fine.

If they were setting up S3 at the end, it was weak and they should let it end anyway because the ending made sense.

Setting up S3 for sure...possible spoiler, so...

The new "You" is his mother?  Just a guess, but they mention her a lot and never say what happened to her.

Just finished S2 last night.  I didn't have it quite figured out (was actually headed in the right direction, but not really close with the details).  That's one reason I really liked S2.

Totally agree with 4mer re: Ellie.  I like the character and I think the kid is a good little actor, too.

With the first girlfriend and the 2nd girlfriend (not naming names because I don't know how to do the spoiler thing) coming back to "haunt" him, we can expect more of that from others.  And the mom really intrigues me.  I have my guesses, but I'll hold onto them until S3 comes out.

All in all ... I really like this show.

Netflix has confirmed Season 3 for early 2021. The two leads in Season 2 will be returning. The first 2 seasons were based on books by Caroline Kepnes. She is nearly finished with a 3rd book in the series but unsure if the producers will wait for it.

3 episodes into The Witcher... pretty weird but watchable. It's like one of those addictive B movies: bad acting and awkward storytelling, but plenty of action and intrigue to keep you watching and it makes just enough sense.

Loving The Outsider on HBO. Only 2 episodes up so far. It's one of Stephen King's latest books and I liked the book a lot. Show is pretty true to the book so far and has a good cast.

I'm enjoying but not in love with Peaky Blinders. Only about 5 episodes in, though.

Loved Jack Ryan.

Just looking for the next show to watch.

I'll tell ya, nothing has really topped our experience watching the first 3 seasons of Fringe. It was probably 4 years ago now my wife and I dove into that and we've been looking for the next great experience since. We feel similarly the same way about Better Call Saul and did about Breaking Bad.

3 episodes in to a SciFi show called The Feed on Amazon.  I could see it turning crappy but so far it is intriguing.

It sort of turned crappy.  It had the widest gap I've ever seen in a show between some very interesting premises and the lame way they were delivered.

There was some good stuff in the show but it was about a 6.  A few changes could have made it much better.

Recently watched a movie on Netflix from 2013 that I had completely missed when it came out called About Time. It is from the creator of Love Actually and has a bit of the same vibe. It’s stars Rachel McAdams and a very young Margot Robbie. The premise is: a young man turns 21 and his father, played by the great Bill Nighy,  lets him in on a little secret, namely that the men in his family can all time travel back to different parts along their own lifeline.

Most of the movie follows the typical romcom formula, but there is a pretty neat twist at the end that might cause you to get the sensation that you’re chopping some onions.

I highly recommend it, it was a terrific movie.

Fincher is working on another long-term project and the cast has been released from their contracts.  It hasn't been canceled as much as shelved indefinitely with no obligation to return.

So I haven’t seen many movies this millennium, but added Netflix to watch Aaron Hernandez documentary.

what films are must sees?  I will be watching with my lady

some films I’ve seen that I enjoyed- American Beauty, Usual Suspects, Being John Malkovich, Coen brother films, Butterfly Effect....

what else is good?  I like well written, plot twists, clever scripts

Im almost through season 2 of Titans (next I'm going to watch Doom patrol)

I completely forgot they filmed it in Toronto until there was mention of the FX guy that died while filiming

Then during season 7 when Robin is on the roof with the new Robin, you can see the lower section of the CN tower (while they are supposed to be in San Francisco)

Finished season 2 of Lost in Space on Netflix. I think it was more suspenseful than season 1, with many situations where it seems like someone isn’t going to survive. Parker Posey is a psychotic Dr Smith, much darker than the tv version.  Hopefully they’ll be another season as it ended with cliffhangers.

Have you ever seen the movie In Bruges? I know it's on Cinemax but probably purchasable on some streaming service.

Just finished season 2 of Titans on Netflix. I thought it wasnt bad but find that the show seems way to busy, spending alot of time adding and getting rid of characters and going on a bunch of tangent storylines. They build up the villans who end up getting beat rather easily in the end that it seems like a let down after they spend time building them up. They spend way too much time bringing in new characters to add to the group.

I just started the latest and last season of The Ranch last night, got a few episodes in. I also plan on starting Doom Patrol too (after I finish that one I hope to get the full season of Swamp thing which had some good reviews but was quickly canceled)

I'm only hanging on to Amazon Prime for The Grand Tour which is now only a couple longer specials a year. It seemed there were alot of mixed reactions to 'Seamen' the first special. I liked it but many didn't because they wanted it to be about cars, not a boat trip. I am also holding on to it because I'm hoping soon that here in Canada we will start getting the automotive show Gearz hosted by Stacey David. I had a response from him through Facebook that they are trying to get it on in Canada soon, right now it's only available on Prime in the US (or a few other pay services like Motortrend).

A few weeks ago I finished watching James May's 'Our Man in Japan' and I enjoyed that too. He spent a few months on his own traveling across Japan and it's a good mix of some humor along with learning about the culture and the country. I don't know how well Clarkson's Farm Show is going to be but I will probably watch when it's released. I'm looking forward to Richard Hammonds show he is going to film with Torey Beallci from Mythbusters where they will be deserted on a desert island. I wish I had Discovery so I could see Toreys recent show called 'The Explosion Show' because what could be better?

Hope you weren't planning on streaming the Super Bowl with Roku's Fox channels

https://www.inputmag.com/culture/roku-will-stop-offering-fox-channels-to-users-on-february-1

Quote

Without giving users a justification, Roku just announced via mass email that after January 31, 2020, all Fox "standalone" channels with no longer be available on the service's streaming boxes or TVs equipped with its software. The email states that "You can still watch FOX channels through these services: FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, SlingTV, YouTube TV and other live TV services," and goes on to add that "If you have a Roku TV, you may be able to receive FOX over the air with an antenna."

If you are into the history of exploration, there is "Trajectory - Milestones in Space Exploration" on Prime. Short stories of major items in space history. For a space geek like me, it is a mixed bag. It is great that you can get the stories of these moments in history. However, each one is only about 5-8 minutes in length, so they do not go into too much detail. Good for people with ADD, but not good if you are looking for deep dives.

Dirty John on Netflix is a true story about a man who conned his way into women's lives to his own benefit, and his final scam. It's based on the podcast.

It's not my usual fare at all but it sucked me in.

Also if you don't know the story, it's better not to google it. I refrained from googling until it was over and I was glad that I did.

If any of you have access to Apple TV, I highly recommend watching :

Servant

The morning show

Truth be told

See

All of these shows are really really good, and have been my favorites in the last few months

I really liked the Morning Show. Just finished that one. Haven’t seen the others yet.

just started The Stranger on Netflix and not to sure about it yet. It’s a British cast, supposed to be a thriller. Only through episode one. Will try to be patient.

Servent was awesome. Kind of a thriller/mystery. It was directed by m knight Shyamalan, and I typically like his movies. See is also really good, even though after the first episode I didn't think I'd like it, but it ended up being really good. I've been really impressed with Apple TV. The writing seems to be a step above Netflix

I enjoyed Morning Show but didn't expect to. Liked Servant.

I will try See. The premise seems dumb and that's kept me away.

Podcast is better than the TV series...much better actually.

Speaking of podcasts, the greatest one I have ever listened to and sucked me in like no other was "To live and die in LA".  I know this is a TV thread, but holy **** that one is a mind bender and crazy good.  Everyone I have ever referred it to was instantly hooked.

Ive seen the Morning Show and Truth Be Told...verdict, The Morning Show is excellent, really well done show.  Truth be Told was hard to get through, the acting is so bad.  We didn't like it even though we finished it.

Some must watch, unusual, but must watch docs:

1 - Dont F**K with Cats - 3 episode mini series...crazy and good all at the same time.  Shocking

2 - Chicken People - Hilarious documentary following people who have "Show Chickens", like in dog show type chickens

3 - Behind the Curve - Cant miss documentary that is hilarious as it follows those "Flat Earth" nuts, so good.

I know 1 and 3 above are for sure on Netflix, and I think Chicken People is too.  If not, you can find it I think on one of the other streamers if its not on Netflix anymore.

I didn't read through all 34 pages, so pardon me if this has already been mentioned. I started The Outsider on HBO, based on a Stephen King novel, directed By Jason Bateman and Starring Ben Mendelsohn. Just finished episode 5. It's down right creepy. Good plot and storyline so far.

Is that the one where he is arrested for allegedly killing a kid? I see commercials for that one all the time.
