I was about to say something similar. Why pour millions into a dump you're ready to move out of?

I have no idea why they’d make the investment if what DD says is true. It will be done for basically 5 seasons.

With that being said it was necessary to upgrade. With tickets being as accessible as the are now teams have spent the last 10 -15 years trying to add amenities and access. The Bills have done a nice job on the access part. The tent at camp is nice, the field passes, draft party, etc... The amenities could be upgraded though.

From the article:

The main objectives of the renovation are to improve overall traffic flow within the clubs, provide a more efficient way for club seat members to congregate with family and friends while still offering all the amenities the indoor seating area provides when fans in the sideline club seats come inside during breaks in the action.

I wonder if the sales of these sections' season tickets are down.  Also, are these more, or less, expensive than other clubs?

Instead of building a new stadium, they should just put money into improving the physicsl structure of new era and make sure it will stay up for 50 more years. Then maybe because of the height of the top of the stadium in relation to the ground level, put some sort of cover over it. As long as it doesn’t fall down, we probably don’t need a new stadium.

There will still be probably 4 years before the new stadium is ready (contract requires by 2022)...

Plus, we all saw Terry's early pressers, he is not here for return on investments. Remember him saying when asked how he was going to make money, while dumping all that money into the city of Buffalo (he was just sabres owner at the time), and I paraphrase "I'm not here to make money. If I want more money I will get it from my othr business. I'm here to win championships"

Now obviously he has no championships, but it's also obvious that he is trying, and massively improving the area in the process.

It's time we give Pegulas more credit, they want to improve the fan experience. Time will prove them great owners once the on-field and on-ice products are better.

They have to build. Remember it was part of the sales of the team. Wilson estate required the new owner build by 2022...

Edit: the above statement (after second quote) is false. Edit to make that clear, and avoid spreading false info.  I had remembered it that way but was misremembering, something that seems to happen more and more as the years tick by.

You sure about that?

Are you maybe thinking of that clause in the stadium lease that didn't allow a team to leave until 2022/23? Or Pegula saying that the NFL was pretty adamant that they wanted the Bills to eventually build a new stadium?

The NFL can't force Pegula to build one, though. And there was nothing in the sale (that I'm aware of) that forces the owners to build a new stadium.

Don't see anything about how much this will cost, how much they make in concession sales, and how much more they expect to make as a result of these renovations which not surprised to not see any of that listed.  So considering we basically no nothing, can't see any reason to question why they are doing it.  Likely compared to the cost of a new stadium and what they may be able to make in increased sales could mean the payback is less than 5 years so then why not.

I bet this is a play to increase club ticket sales in anticipation of capturing more sales for the new stadium project.

When I go to the games, I always pick up tickets in one of the sideline clubs.  The seats themselves have excellent sight lines and the club amenities are nice without removing you from the stadium atmosphere.  The restrooms are cleaner, the annoying drunks are quickly taken care of, you can watch Sunday Ticket after the game while waiting for traffic to clear... it's money well spent if you're planning to go to the game.

A few things, they don’t have to build. The lease just tied the team in WNY and made it less appealing for people that purchased to the team to move them. They were basically “stuck” in WNY for 7 years (or whatever it was).

In terms of the Pegula’s they definitely care. They aren’t cheap. They aren’t competent either. To be a “great” owner you have to be both willing to spend and no how to win.

Who is DD and what does he say?

Dunkirk Dan is a low level parking lot investor around the site of the new stadium. Getting in at the right time will make him a lot of money. As to where this land is. follow the money......

DD also has a source getting info directly inside OBD. And was very generous in providing priceless info regarding the Bills. A soutce as valuable as DD rarely comes around. He has a (shrinking) cult like following here.

DD has "checked out" for awhile...

Remember Kirby's definition is competent is making fans buy lots of PSLs.  I do not want such a "competent" owner.

Twist words much?

I think that the Bills need to close the revenue gap with larger market teams because the shared revenue pool is a bubble that isn’t going to grow much more. I don’t want to be a have not. Yes, I think that the next stadium should be a public-private partnership, just like everyone else is doing!! I don’t think being the lowest revenue club in the NFL is a good long-term strategy. I think a couple hundred million in PSLs is perfectly reasonable.

I am a little sensitive on the subject because it’s an area that I know well.  Do you think that the Pegula’s have been competent as owners??? Rex, Murray, Bylsma, etc... They took a hockey team with a world of assets and turned that rebuild into the worst team in the league!!

The league can huff and puff all they want about a new stadium. In the end it's the Pegula's call. Can the league guarantee that revenues and values will keep rising? I don't think they can. In fact I can see things leveling off if not falling. So if Terry and Kim decide to improve NEF for 33% of the cost of a new downtown stadium, could you blame them?

That said, there's a lot of pros to a new downtown dome beyond just a football venue.

With ESPN's troubles, I can't see them or anyone else coming close to offering what they did with the last round of TV contracts ($1.9B, which was $800K more than the next highest contract [Fox]).  The current contracts run out in 2021.  I'd bet they waiting to see what the next round of contracts looks like before deciding on the stadium.

R u guys that simple minded. The new stadium construction will begin in 2022 and ready for play in 2024 so for the next six years there will be no improvements in the stadium. Are you that naive.  U want want to prove me wrong u don’t think

Before you deep thinkers go off the ledge the playin field g is going to be re done as well so if they invest in th playing. Field Dunkirk don has to be wrong. They would improve the playing field if they r building a new stadium. You guys are so foolish They are debating whether it should be real grass or not me and my source stand by the new stadium the land has been bought. The improvements are to generate revenue u guys sell pegula so short.  This is a smart business man. U do knowa few years back we invested 130 million dollars in this stadium. With your logic we then would never build a new stadium. Read the transaction when pegula bought the team. It was a condition in the bid process the new owner had to build new stadium when lease is up. Time will prove me really right

Re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic...I would prefer Kim & Terry put that money towards  a new stadium district, ala Patriot Place, in downtown Buffalo.

Here is your logic. A billionaire who made his money  investing money into his business to make more money recently makes a small investment into an assest and because of this he will not make a future investment in a new stadium that will generate millions of dollars in revenue because he made a small investment six years ago.  He would not be a billionaire today with your thinking would he.   The stadium information I have shared is accurate period

Make fun all you want I would buy land in Lancaster

Per the bold text, can you refer me to the clause in the purchase agreement that stipulates this condition? The only clause I can recall that had anything to do with an imposed time frame was the one pertaining to relocation which stipulated that the team couldn't relocate before the lease expired in 2023. I recall no such condition imposed for building a new stadium.

Most of the time they look bout half empty.

I believe they are talking about the Jim Kelly club and the Van Miller fasten your seat belts club and the other 2. Didn't read the article though. Thats what they look like from the picture.

One of the FAANG companies is going to come hard sooner or later.  Personally I think it will be during the next round of negotiations, not in 2021. Digital rights are growing, too.

But waiting on the stadium is a great point.  This is a smartphone society, and attendance patterns are likely to continue a downward trend. I'm a big believer in the theory that big crowds make for better tv - so why risk dampening attendance with higher ticket prices to cover the cost of a new stadium?  By 2021 they might be better off in inevesting in infrastructure at and around the current location
