Einstein
It's not just McD folks. A report today says that Daboll has friction with his DC in NY as well. ---------------------------------------------------- Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that issues are mounting between Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. “When I talk to people inside that organization they’re saying the tension between these two, you could feel it,” Glazer said. The Giants previously had to do the “nothing to see here” thing based on images of in-game dysfunction between Daboll and Martindale in the blowout loss to the Cowboys. Now, they’ll be cleaning up again after today’s game against the Patriots. Link ---------------------------------------------------- When asked about the tension, Martindale (the DC) said that working with Brian Daboll was different in 2022 because we were winning Link ---------------------------------------------------- Maybe this should be in the McD thread? Feel free to merge. But wanted to point out that we are not alone with tension in the organization. 3 1 1
Gugny
There’s likely friction on every team. The difference between the McDermott situation and the Daboll situation (and the situation for most other teams) is that McDermott has had a top 3 (easily) QB for years and has nothing to show for it. 8 3 4 3 2 6 3

I'm willing to be more times than not wherever you find an underachieving team, there is going to be friction on the coaching staff somewhere. As there should be. These guys are all hyper competitive and most are very prideful. No one likes to be told their side of the ball is the weak link.

Bobby Hooks
Agree that there’s most likely friction on every team. But so much that there’s articles being written about it? People were hyping Daboll’s offensive prowess and giving him full credit for Allen’s turnaround. I think he was eating up his hype with a spoon in Buffalo. Not to say that Mcdermott doesn’t have an ego, I believe he’s a head case as well. But well known animosity with other high ranking coaches on his last two teams? Where there’s smoke… Edited December 9, 2023 by Bobby Hooks

I don’t think that attrition is unusual. He also had the same DC until just this year. Even though he and Daboll don’t like each other, losing an OC to a HC position is not a stain. 2
ChronicAndKnuckles
Jesus the NFL is turning into one giant soap opera. Daboll inherited a giant pile of **** and still got them in the playoffs last year. Fans are so quick to turn on coaches/players no pun intended Edited December 9, 2023 by ChronicAndKnuckles 3 1
PBF81
Both coaches were overrated due to the presence of Allen. Daboll's done absolutely nothing to distinguish himself apart from two seasons with Allen at his best. The same for our current coach. McD at least has a chance to prove differently and what a great leader he is over the last five games. Daboll at 4-8 and 7-14-1 in his last 22 games not so much.

bouds
Daboll has anger management issues at times. I mean it's clear as day on the field, better to keep ***** in the locker room. His outbursts are all out in the open. Maybe they don't get along, ***** happens, it's clear the Bills had some internal conflict but they kept that ***** in house for the most part until this recent expose. Problem with Daboll and the Giants is that it keeps spilling out onto the field during gamedays, I'm sure getting your clock cleaned every week will do that to some extent. When he was on the sidelines, Daboll used to blow up at Josh Allen. It's no coincidence that Josh's breakout happened when Daboll moved to the booth. And the conniption Daboll had when Tyrod Taylor called the wrong play against the Bills... I thought he was going to have a stroke.
RobbRiddick
I saw a hilarious clip last night of Colin Cowherd talking about how McD doesn't have a close relationship with Allen and that's a bad thing. He then said something like "Belichick never went to dinner with Brady once. Not once. Must do better". Just wonderful. They won 6 SBs. Just think they might have won seven if they'd shared a lobster now and then

It definitely doesn't shout out great leadership. BTW, "too much time" being 13 whopping seconds. Most good head coaches would have been tickled and jubilant. Most know exactly when the McDermott Era broke: Jan. 22, 2022 at Arrowhead Stadium. Adversity reveals character in any field. Not only did McDermott insult the public by writing off 13 Seconds as an “execution” error. He never owned the defeat privately. He allowed it to linger, and that’s the danger with any trauma. There’s no way for anyone involved to move on unless it’s dealt with head-on. Unless the guilty party takes accountability. McDermott, as Go Long detailed, was the culprit. Yet when his decision to kick a touchback and his defense doomed Buffalo against the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs, there was zero accountability. To delusional proportions. One assistant coach remembers McDermott saying in the locker room that the offense scored too fast and left the Chiefs too much time. “It was such a ludicrous statement,” the coach said, “that it didn’t move the needle.” The next day, McDermott continued to point the finger. “You guys need to get away,” the assistant recalled the boss saying. “Recharge, reflect, and figure out what you can do better to avoid that happening again.” With that, he walked out of the room. 6 minutes ago, RobbRiddick said: I saw a hilarious clip last night of Colin Cowherd talking about how McD doesn't have a close relationship with Allen and that's a bad thing. It's pretty clear that McD has deliberately distanced himself from our offense, which I attribute to him acknowledgingly not knowing much about offense, Cowherd's point was that you cannot do that and be an effective head coach. Feel free to merge. But wanted to point out that we are not alone with tension in the organization. As someone said, "when you get a dose of that Vitamin W, it changes everything" I think Daboll may be undergoing what some call an "On the Job Training Experience". When you're winning and everyone's inspired, it's easy to believe in giving your coordinators autonomy. When you're losing, and your defense is 26th in the league for points given up, you may feel you need to "mix it in" and give your input to the DC. That may cause friction when the side of the ball you are closest to, the offense, is 32nd in the league. It surprises me that there's apparently a strong fraction here that want to bring in Daboll as HC. He was COTY last season, great! But a number of new coaches have come in and given the team a "spark". The question is whether that "spark" lasts and turns into sustained success.
