the fact there's more than 3 of these is so effing billsy it makes me sick. Names and faces change, results remain the same for eternity. #cursed

To make it worse, you could compose a list just off of games from THIS year!!!  And the season is not over!

At least we don't have fake spike, butt fumble and hail mary pick 6. We got that going for us.

We can't have it all

Here is my question, does any other coachs losses rival the kinds of and amount of mindblowing losses McDermott has? I don't even know, but I have to think McD is so far and away the leader in such categories the next guy on the list isn't even close.

Watch a Brandon Staley Chargers game. Billsy has nothing on CHARGERING.

most coaches do not survive so many instances. because mcdemrott has allen and inherited top talent he has gotten a pass because of his W-L record.

a few orgs would have fired him after 13 seconds.

Jeremy quickly clarified that it should be about coaching decisions only, since he doesn't have control over fumbles, etc.

So worst decisions for me would be....

1: Trading Mahomes Pick

2: 13 seconds

3: Prioritizing Dlinemen over weapons for Josh.

4: Letting inexperienced play caller be OC in Josh's prime.

The Philly Kneel, Peterman start, and thinking he would do better than Leslie are really bad, but don't make the top 4 in my opinion.

Trading Justin Jefferson pick for Diggs

Whatever happened to hiring a Madden championship player? I know I read somewhere there were talks of it, considering that person would have been through thousands of football situations our head coach hasn’t even been through.
Yes, it’s just a video game, but it’s still a simulation of sorts. He needs to be on the sideline as a game day consultant to the head coach. I don’t think some of these close, ridiculous losses happen with his input.

13 seconds

12 men on the field

Hail Murray (that cost us a 1st rd bye and homefield)

Houston playoff Loss in 19

Minnesota as honorable mention

These probably hurt me the most cause I went from thinking we'll win to a sudden L and had major impact

The KC L in 20 and Bengals last year, we played bad and it was over for a while

up until last season we always had one loss where we simply did not show up and got boat raced hard.  usually vs a strong running team that our undersized d got ate by.

i suppose last season you could say that happened to us in the playoffs vs cinci.

that hasn't happened to us this season, but i think it is because we win at the line of scrimmage more of than we lose (we finally have a solid OL, and RB and TE production, great season to give gift wins to NE, jets, and denver!).

one thing i don't see mentioned much lately -- penalties.  the zebras were out to get us vs philly, but we did commit some dumb dumb dumb penalties.  obvious cheap stuff that basically didn't even give us an advantage in the play.  a trend of penalties is largely on the coach.

I've started to see this pop up on various social media and it's the most painful sports graphic I've ever seen.

Ya it's not pretty BUT -

2nd highest winning % since 19 in all 4 major sports as well.

Sorta like saying 17 is a turnover machine, without including he's an even better TD machine

This is a results based business.  If the Bills don't finish out 5 - 0 or 4 - 1, make the playoffs, and then run to at least the AFC Championship then Mc D needs to go, with appreciation from me for coming here and ending the drought, but he still needs to go.

McD O and D regular season ranks should have produced way more playoff wins. His bad coaching decisions are inexcusable.

With regular season ranks like that this team should have won 4 SB in a row, McD teams haven't been close.

Thing that bothers me is TPegs might give him a playoff pass because of his regular season ranks, I hope not.

The Vikings didnt even score on that drive. The Bills were up 27-23. The Defense stopped them on the goal line, and got the ball back with the lead 27-23. The Cam Lewis play should have been irrelevant as long as our Center and QB execute a simple snap. That loss was NOT on Cam Lewis.

Ok, not technically. But they did… They got the fumble recovery for a TD after we stopped them on 4th and goal after Cook was ruled not to have a TD.

🤷‍♂️

I disagree…Staley might be bad, but McD bad losses are on the biggest stage…That makes him worse…

Staley is so bad he cant even get his talented team to those big stages.

Not that Im defending McD. But Staley is truly horrible.

My biggest fear is that Staley gets fired, McD gets to stay one more year, and he brings Staley in as DC.

"13 Seconds" is king of the mountain for Sean McDermott.  It ranks with "Wide Right" and the "Music City Miracle" as the worst losses in Bills history.

Last year's Minnesota loss was strangely one of the lowest moments I've felt as a Bills fan.  Justin Jefferson with the greatest catch ever on 4th Down.  The fumbled snap in the end zone.  Patrick Peterson's interception.  Despite our great record at the time, that was the moment my expectations for the season came crashing and I knew this team wasn't going to win the Super Bowl.  Just felt like this team was cursed.

12 Man Field Goal is probably the most incompetent loss during McDermott's coaching tenure.  Unbelievable he could let that happen in such a vital game.

The Houston playoff game, Philly/Jalen Hurts OT, Bucs/Tom Brady OT (along with 13 seconds) are the greatest examples of where McDermott falls short as a Defensive coach in the biggest clutch moments.  The 2020 Chiefs Championship loss and 2022 Bengals Divisional loss are the best examples where his defense simply doesn't show up in the biggest games.

It's absolutely crazy that I've named EIGHT games from the past 5 seasons.  And I still haven't gotten to the Hail Murray.  The Wind Game against the Patriots.  Josh Allen slipping Monday night against the Titans.  The Josh Allen vs. Josh Allen bowl.  Aaron Rodgers Achilles game.

The fact we can have such a lengthy discussion over the Mount Rushmore of brutal losses under a Head Coach that has never been to a Super Bowl is hilarious and completely unserious if we miss the playoffs.. continue the regression under him.. and run it back next season.

1.  13 Seconds

2.  Bengals playoff

3.  12 Men

4.  Pats 2023

There are some other very memorable ones (Philly '23, Vikes '22, Jets '23, Jags '21, Houston playoff, Pats wind game, etc.), but many of those are less defined by Sean's coaching than by either near miracles (Vikes/Philly), acts of God (wind game) or poor play by Josh/offense (Jets/Jags).  The four I have on my list I hang directly on Sean for either ridiculous coaching blunders (13 seconds/12 men), not having his team ready to play in either a big game (Bengals) or against an inferior opponent (Pats/Broncs) or complete collapse of his defense at the end of a game (13 secs, 12 men and Pats).  This week's game would be no. 5 on my list.

Us fans just need to realize that losing to: Jets, Jags, Pats, Bengals, Broncos, Eagles,  (possibly KC, Dal, Mia?)...means they just are not too good., and they would've flamed out in the playoffs and pissed us off even more.

The only games where I honestly thought the other team just beat us were the Jags, Bengals and Pats games.  We were clearly the worse team on those days.  We largely dominated the other losses if not for idiotic turnovers and late game coaching blunders.  We should be sitting at 9-3 right now and the metrics agree.

Thing I can't stop thinking about..who's going to replace him out there that might be better?

Did anybody know who McDermott was before he was hired here? or Sirianni, or McDaniels, or Ryans, or Campbell, or Harbaugh before he became coach or Pederson before he bacame coach, or Tomlin before he became coach....... etc

This mindset that nobody better than McDermott can be found is comical, lazy, scared of failure thinking actually, kind of how McDermott coaches.

The most difficult piece to the puzzle is already in place, QB 1, so attracting top coaching talent shouldn't be an issue as it was in the past.

They will get phone calls from everyone with an offensive background begging for an interview. This will be a very attractive position

This is where I am at. Unless he goes on some big run and wins the Super Bowl, i think he has taken us as far as he can.

He is a good coach, but I'm not confident he can get us over the hump

We all want McDermott to be successful because his success means the team is winning which will lead to the elusive Super Bowl championship we all feel is within reach with what I believe is a generational talent like Josh Allen.  But realistically does anyone believe its going to happen?   I think Josh is in the same boat as Connor McDavid with the Edmonton Oilers.  Both arguably the best individual talent in the league stuck on a team that underachieves in other areas of the game such as defense and coaching.

While I've stuck with McDermott on its become too obvious after the Philly game that a change is needed.  I'm not sure I can handle another season full of these last minute disasters.

Losses under McDermott?

1. 13 Seconds

2. 12 Men on the Field

3. Vikings Game

4. Jets season opener

Losses because of McDermott?

1. 13 Seconds

2. 12 Men on the Field

3. Bengals playoff

4. Bills/Chiefs AFC Championship Game

I think the Bills lost those games because of McDermott (Bengals are debatable)

I used to think some other organization would scoop up McD if he got let go here.  When they start looking at all the close head scratching losses, I think teams would shy away.  It's disgraceful, how often the offense has pulled themselves off the mat to tie or take a lead late, only for the D to cave at the end or in OT.  The Bills championship window is maybe in the final realistic season and McD has pissed it away.  Even with D injuries they should have closed out some of these games...TWICE in Philly they blew it.

He's a mediocre defensive mind who fall back on his safe blanket zone. But once the 2nd half begins,  opposing teams (coaches) easily know what to attack. His decision making abilities are terrible.

WGR has a great discussion topic. What are the top 4 worst loses for the Bills in McDermott's tenure? The Mount Rushmore for McDermott?

This does not mean the loss is blamed on him - just the loss was under his term.

My submission:

1. 13 seconds

2. Kneel down

3. Peterman's 5 picks

4. Urban Meyers Jaguars

Sadly this team has dozens of worthy candidates. Here's what I came up with:

1) Wide Right

2) 13 Seconds
3) Patriots "Just Give It To Em" game
4) 2004 losing to Steelers 3rd stringers and missing playoffs
