He is not a pass rusher, this dude is a run clogger that will allow Oliver and the backers to stay clean.

Yeah, freeing up the backers is the huge part of this.

He used to be considered the strongest guy in the league. A bit older now. Seems like a really good move, and I look forward to seeing how that works out.

Never been a pass rusher like DaQuan was, and I don't see that starting now.

Linval Joseph was in his prime (esp the Vikings years) a pretty good pass rusher. He was on the NFL top 100 in 2016 and 2018 (and probably deserved to be there in 2017) to show you how good he was in his Minnesota years.

He has not been that type of penetrator pass rush-wise the past few years but in the past few seasons, he has been a quality space eater which is what we need in order to get value out of this signing.

yea, I know..thanks... it just doesn't happen and he was talking out of his a$$

It was clearly an idiotic question from an idiot...........and now he's doubled down.

Since the league expanded the PS and made it more lucrative there are a lot of veterans on teams basically getting paid to workout and help the team prepare.........in places they want to be........or around people they want to be around etc..

Duke Johnson got paid pretty well to sit on the PS in Buffalo last year..........but let's say Arizona decided they need a veteran to handle 10-12 carries in week 17.   Are you saying he would definitely jump ship from a SB contender who he's one injury away from playing for just for the larger pay check and potentially miss the playoffs?   Of course this kind of thing DOES happen.   A guy like Eli Ankou has to pretty much take every chance he gets.........but the practice squad isn't full of guys who are just playing for the money OR the chance to play in one more game.

The expanded PS and the lifting of maximum service time for six PS slots is one of the better things the NFL did (Along with changing the stupid IR rules). It allows all of these vets a chance to hang on and contribute where under the rules of no more than 2 accrued years of service time basically kept a lot of these players with possibly something left in the tank in the league. It also allowed these vets a chance to teach the players on their team while collecting a nice check and still keeping their chances of playing alive.

Joseph is a big DT but Washington was in a different category.    He played close to 400,  was a little shorter with longer arms and bigger hands and a better athlete.  He was the perfect NT and the Bills lost their identity when they lost him.     Joseph was never in that category of difference maker but he was really good in his prime.   He's not that guy anymore but I think he'll like the Bills D and hopefully play a little better in the Bills D than he did last year for Philly.

I still miss Ted, best DT we ever had and should be in the HOF

Great job. You answered the question before it was asked. Hopefully no one will ask why he lingered on the free agent market for so long...

Yes... exactly. You also answered the question before it was asked. Good job.

... nothing personal but this is not a very good question.

Exactly. This is why he was still available.

Obviously... to some of us but some people have comprehension problems... or simply would rather post than read... good job on you though.

Yes. True.

You're absolutely correct. A pretty simple concept. Hopefully no one persists in asking the stupid question.

Agreed.

This has already been painstakingly addressed by 7 posts before yours. You should read before you post.

Sigh...

Yes... thank you for understanding this exceedingly simple concept.

Thank you dear God...

Bless you... you restore my faith...

Yes, thank you. I'm now convinced that no one will ask the stupid question as to why he wasn't signed earlier...

Nothing personal but this is a really stupid ***** question.

Forget it... you're wasting your good opinion on deaf ears... people who post first and read... never?

Yes!!!

You are correct Sir!!!

Thank you for a good take... maybe there is hope for this country.

Moral of the story (as always). READ... then only post if necessary.

Here's another idea... if you're not adding value... don't bother adding anything because you're part of the problem... this is the reason a 6 page thread turns into a 20 page quagmire of feces.

This has been a public service announcement.

Honestly rather they not play Joseph and Fournette this week. Give them a couple weeks of practice before gradually inserting them into the lineup. I can see muscle strain now.

Now is the time.  Biggest game of the season.

what is Elam on IR with?

Depends on who you ask.

If you ask Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott, they’ll say it’s an ankle injury that’s been lingering for a few weeks per the injury report.

If you ask folks on this message board, they’ll say it’s bustitis.

that it’s not the most egregious doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be all in on it or the week after is more important

it’s a big afc game head to head with a team we may fight for a wild card, or even home field later

Seems like these old players just want to play half the season and its a way to extend their careers

Exactly.  They've made their big bucks, and now they'd like to get a ring rather than labor for more $$$ on a cellar dweller.

I think that these FA veterans like to wait until after the trade deadline because it puts them in the best position to get the best deal from the team they like the best since there's no chance of any monster trade disrupting a team's prospects for the playoffs.

I don't think either Joseph or Fournette were just lounging on their sofas.   Staying fit is a way of life for professional athletes, and for older veterans who plan to sign  with a contender well after the start of the season, staying in playing shape is part of the plan.  The OLer who supposedly "came off the sofa" to fill in on the Giants' OL a couple of weeks ago stepped right in and held his own.  He had to be in pretty good shape to do that.

Another public service announcement... don't believe everything you read.

Sorry to be a dyck head🙃

Sorry, too late.

Maybe a short thread turns into a long thread because you personally respond to and preach to every poster in it. You are generally better than this, but this “read before you post stuff” is tiresome. I’m not reading EVERY post in a long thread. Some people I don’t read at all! I asked a question I believe BEFORE it was answered, and I think it was a fair question. I didn’t need a half dozen answers to it, but I got them. Rather than chastise the people who were not first to respond, I simply thank them. Maybe he’s recovering from an injury late last season? Maybe he’s trying to reduce wear and tear. Maybe he’s had some kind of illness or personal matter. There are countless possibilities.

It was a fair and reasonable question.

It’s so smart. Half the wear/tear for double the price. It seems like it would penalize against bad team (BB drought). Interesting trend.

Well, it does, but so do free agents that won't come there because they want to win or make the team pay a "loser" tax and require more money to go there.

Kinda like the rich get richer scenario, but it's more like the cherry on top rather than the ice cream.  That comes in the form of drafting well, especially at the QB position.

Maybe not, but they need to start improving their conference record pretty soon or they are going to be on the wrong end of all the tie-breakers if it comes down to that, and this would be another step in the wrong direction in that regard.

It's also turned into a place where players who are on the fence about playing can ease their way out of the league while still being around the things they will miss most.........the camaraderie and atmosphere of being on the team and in the locker room.

The practice squad IS full of guys who want to be on NFL rosters, they do not want to sit on practice squads. You are giving a rare scenario where a guy would choose not to leave his team in week 17 for one game check...and EVEN THEN I think Johnson jumps ship to play in a game because guess what?? He can come right back to Buffalos practice squad after they release him. Its the NFL, any chance to play in a game these guys take. Not just for the money, but if they get the chance to play in a real NFL game they get the chance to showcase their skills and maybe parlay that into a longer lasting contract.

I cannot even believe this is a real conversation. Sure there are exceptions (getting onboarded on the practice squad until you get activated to the active roster)...but legit thinking a player would say "no thanks" to a teams active roster and choose to stay on a practice squad instead is one of more ridiculous things I think I have ever read on this board LOL

Joe Marino from Locked on Bills also just touched on this topic in one of the eps of this weeks podcast and he basically said the same thing...players wouldnt say no to the active roster.

I don’t really worry about it until I have to worry about it. This game is important because it’s the next one. Scenarios will change every week. If they lose this week people will cry about playoff seeding or missing the playoffs. Means nothing.

I’ll cry about missing the playoffs when/if it happens. We’ll have plenty of time to cry about it.

So to re-cap you said situations where players choose to stay on a teams practice squad if offered any kind of opportunity to be on an active roster regardless of situation, guarantees etc.. "doesn't happen"and said that suggesting it does was "talking out of your ass".

Now you are saying "Sure there are exceptions".🙄

So basically............you were just talking out of YOUR ass.

I never suggested that most PS players won't take the opportunity to get a week on a 53 man roster somewhere even if they run the risk of being cast adrift thereafter...........but they have the choice and some choose to stay where they are.

Saying it "doesn't happen" was idiotic.   And while I don't always fall on the side of "listen to everyone else's opinion in the thread".........nobody is agreeing with your take that it "doesn't happen"(which you are now backing off of even though it renders your ENTIRE argument pointless to admit it "does happen").

You literally said "A lot of players choose to stay on PS despite 53 man roster offers because they like their longer term outlook with the team they are on the PS with etc.."

A LOT implies you are not just referring to exceptions my guy haha. Had you said "a handful" I wouldnt have had an issue. You are out here making it seem like PS guys are all just trying to stay there lol

His job is to be fat and occupy blockers. If he is in shape I would think he could suit up Sunday. Pretty sure last year he signed with Philadelphia mid week and played that weekend.

Wish we had a Ted Washington or Pat Williams clone!  But, I’m very happy with Joseph, especially this late in the season and I’m sure the compensation is very fair.  Gotta give Beane credit for the Douglas move too (heard nothing but positive things about him).  I just wish we’d had depth at LB coming into the season but I think every team is short in one or more position groups (guess LB will be one of our three 6th round picks next year or an amalgamation of late picks to move up).
