Bills re-sign OT Quessenberry

I really hope this isn't a sign of faith in Brown as a starter. Ideally he would be the one to fill the role of primary back/swing tackle and we would find a starter that isn't a complete turnstile.

But if Q comes cheap then it wouldn't be bad to have both him and Brown as backups and this would be a nice signing/depth.

Hopefully they still bring in someone that can at least compete and push for the starting job.

I'm starting to think they're going after a pass rusher, again, at 27 or moving back

Good re-signing. A capable swing tackle.

Multiple posters will no doubt flock to this post, complaining that the Bills didn't do better.

In truth, how much did anyone really expect a cap-strapped team that is forced to work the fringes of free agency to spend on a third tackle?

And yes, this likely means they're committed to giving Spencer Brown the chance to lock down the RT spot for good this season, but anyone who listened to Beane's recent presser already knew that.

I think Q’s signing means no OT in FA to challenge Brown. That’s the disappointing thing because I think Q is a good depth piece. Maybe we get an OT in the draft somewhere.

omg what a waste why didn’t we sign Orlando Brown to 8 billion dollars!??!  Beane asleep again

According to his Mommy, he wanted the $8 Billion fully guaranteed? I draw the line there!

Beane says a lot of things and then does something different

Brown should be the swing tackle… aren’t they supposed to be trying to get better… not running it back?

Beane has said in the past that - ideally - he goes into the draft with no gaping holes.  He tries to fill out a competent roster before the draft so he can go BPA during the draft.  Q is our backup tackle for now.  He may yet be supplanted by further additions.

This is the sort of signing that I really don't know how I feel about.

If he's on a cheap contract, it makes sense to bring back someone who knows the offense for camp and etc.  He's got Game, and there wasn't that big a fall off from Brown to Quessenberry last season.

But that's a very low bar to say "not that big of a fall off from Brown to Quessenberry".

We simply can't improve our OL by keeping it the same, so if it's "Conner McGovern and a mid-round rookie" my heart just sinks.

Brown should be the swing tackle… try to get Bette

I don't disagree that Brown had rough stretches last season.

It's clear after listening to Beane's presser that he blames the back injury and the lost offseason for much of Brown's struggles, and also said he felt like Brown was playing better down the home stretch of the season.

As much as some here may want it, I did not got the impression after listening to Beane that tackle is a spot where they're going to bring in a high round draft pick or premium free agent.

I think Quessenberry and Doyle are about the level of competition Brown will be looking at this year. Maybe if a tackle they like slips in the draft, they'll take one in the mid rounds. I don't expect much more than that.

All of that said...the Bills under Brandon Beane have signed cheap veteran O-linemen in past free agency periods, only to cut them in camp in favor of younger talent or a different path. It could certainly happen again with Quessenberry.

Well Beane did have a gaping hole at CB going into last year's draft. And I think we all expect he'll have one at MLB this year.

But at least it's only 1 major hole, and I think Q is a solid backup. I hope it doesn't prevent us from drafting more than 1 OL.

Improving the OL should have been the biggest focus but they are running it back + Connor McGovern…

I don’t get the defence of this … will you be happy if Quessenberry beats out Brown?

There won’t be any meaningful completion between the two…
