Been 5 years since BBMB went down

So I checked in my profile yesterday and saw join date of 3/3/2017.  Right after BBMB disappeared I found this site.  I wasn’t in their long, just a few months before it went down.  Wanted a place to vent after Rex’s last game.

So we might have found the playoff drought curse wasn’t Doug Flutie or Billy Buffalo but BBMB.  Lol

Its been fun.  Cheers

While I never was a member there, I find it hard to believe that a team website that would want to control all its content actually housed a fan message board. I know it used to be somewhat common, but makes no sense.

I'm also a transplant. Overall, I find that the quality of posts at 2BD is better than BBMB. I'm glad that some of the better BBMB posters jumped over here.

I suspect it was rough on the Mods for a while there. I have to give them credit for welcoming all the new folks while establishing expectations. In the end, a lot of great new posters came from that.

this is really odd that this came up.  yesterday my cursor fell over my avatar, and my sign up date as 21017 came up.  i was shocked that it had been that long ago.  it was a ton of fun and a lot of great people.  it's too bad it closed as abruptly as it did, but this board is great.  much better football talk here, not that i ever contribute anything to that.

Somewhere in Florida, there is a guy still defending Tom Donahoe.

Lol... are you talking about Flafitz?

Donahoe almost shut it down years earlier than that but was talked out of it, hence the short novel called the coc.

bbmb was a place where many out of staters kept up with their team the Bills. I chatted there off and on for years. The way the plug was pulled was super sudden and *****.  Posters dispersed and many are here. Im grateful for 2BD and have no desire to reminisce all that hard on the past. It was a glorious MESS at times Off the chain...filled with some great posters. Some no longer with us.

RIP bbmb.

JM2C: It was one of the only official team boards, especially at the end. That carried a lot of weight for me, participation wise. The idea that all the saucy ***** we did and etc made it to actual Bills brass at times....that was kind of the appeal to me. I do love this place now but....to me BBMB, for all it's warts, was the major leagues of being an online tool of a fan. Non-offical boards are the minors where the only person you are annoying is some well meaning fan...where it the fun in that?

I do feel badly at all the fun we had at the mods expense, most of whom were pretty cool folks, just trying to do a job. I mean, yeah, there were some...um...interesting candidate choices at the end (ahem, rock chalk) but I enjoyed going down with the ship.

I'd be shocked if players and executives don't pay attention to some of the TBD content.

I spent many a liquified evening on the BBMB pouring out my soul during the decade of fail. I love the current regime and the fact that we're an elite team but I have to admit I was more emotionally invested when we were losing.

This site was much better before migration.

Sorry, I disagree. I think there was a difficult migration period, but we gained a LOT of great posters.

Hats off to the mods for managing that difficult period, but there are people here now I would miss if they left.

I don't get it, what was so difficult?

There were different levels of what was acceptable, apparently. I never went to BBMB, but I seem to recall a difficult transition. I read now from the BBMB folks it was the Wild, Wild West, and TBD was not having that.

I could be wrong, but that is the way I recall the transition. I’m open to the views of others here…….

Maaaaaaaybe.....but at this point in people paying attention to whatever to gauge anything, message boards might as well be telegrams, or newspapers. They are WAY behind the times. I assume the org does pay a attention to twitter, for better or worse.

Even the mere idea that Tom Donahoe yelled at someone who then yelled at Wyo of FlaFitz (as if TD would grace Fla with his actual presence) even once based on some salty thread we had tickles me. It was the official board. When it's not official, I feel like they they just go "who cares, it's the internet."

Yes, I am a child.

This place is great, and a welcoming home.

That being said, BBMB for life.

I still recall your avatar from that site, the Marty Feldman shot.  There was another user who had the never ever ever give up poster with Charlie Brown trying to kick the football as his avatar.

Liked it so much I bought that poster

I'm surprised that BBMB lasted as long as it did.  The team sucking that hard for so many years, the looneys that came out of the woodwork and were both incapable of joy / and posted the same stuff ad nauseum, the debates about TT vs EJM.  It was... a lot, and OBD management must have thought that the entire fan base was off its rockers.

In that light, I'm not surprised that they pulled the plug.  I'm just wondering what took them so long.  Maybe Russ Brandon was actually/secretly participating on BBMB, getting his jollies over trolling folks about how EJM was a good QB or something -- so he insisted that BBMB stay online?  Who knows?

Having written that, the EJM / trade for Jay Cutler threads, each being at least 100 pages a thread, were comedy gold.  I would enjoy reading them each morning over coffee.  One of the "QB whisperers" eventually ended up here, kinda started the same kind of schtick, harped on Allen a ton, then basically apologized for being wrong, then stopped posting to TBD from what I can tell.  My point being: the quality of TBD is really, really good, and I say this as someone who would much rather read the myriad great takes here -- rather than posting a ton of stuff for no reason.  Had I known about TBD sooner, I probably would've never joined BBMB.

I'm not less emotionally invested now that the team is elite, it's just that I find a whole lot less to criticize/complain about now.  I can't be too critical of whatever decisions were made or not made in the last 13 seconds of regulation in the OT loss to KC because I sat through the last game of the 2004 season when the Bills missed the playoffs because they didn't show up against the Steelers' second teamers.

You are correct.

It went both ways.  Some existing TBDers were ***** to the new folks from BBMB.   Some BBMB guys were ***** right out of the gate.  Lots of "YOU'RE NOT MY REAL FATHER," attitudes that I can recall.

Those in both categories found their way to "greener" pastures one way or another.

But I do agree with you ... overall, the migration turned out being very positive.

Many BBMBers were treated like  ***** by TBDers for no reason at all

even when they were once TBDers exiled to the BBMB.

(thanks to certain unnamed and unliked former moderators)

Anyone registered at that same time was also considered a BBMBer.

and former Mods from the BBMB we’re unliked here because the rules there were much stricter

and many of the BBMBers who were ####### were purged long ago
