I’ve listened to a little WEEI this week just to get their take and they don’t seem to think Belichick will be on board with paying him what he can get on the open market. The Boston media really seems to think he’s gone, saying all signs point that way. But Kraft seems to really want him back.

Kraft would  be a Moron to go against Belichek's wishes, but this is a man getting a rub and tug in some sleazy Florida massage parlor so it's certainly within the realm of possibility.

The Raiders have had two winning seasons since Brady's first Super Bowl win.  They lack weapons at WR.  Their defense is middle of the pack.  I don't see it as at least the Pats have a decent defense.

Left unsaid is the term on the agreement.  Perhaps they'll do $30M x 1.  But will they go three years?  Or guarantee three years?

I suspect that at least the Raiders will do both.  The bet here is that Brady gets three years, fully guaranteed, at more than $33.3M per season, from somebody.  In other words, Kirk Cousins at a higher annual salary.

Tom won't leave Chowderland for a one year deal. He's angling for a two or three year contract

...and I’d LOVE to see him get it (though I doubt he will). I used to dread playing against him, now I look forward to it. And he will be that much older, declining every year. I hope he plays TEN more years! Get some pay back!

The Raiders started his career (*cough* tuck rule *cough*) so they might as well end it

Money is meaningless to Brady at this point in his life.  Do the math:

He and his wife net worth over $500m by all accounts.  This past year, assuming his investment advice was average, they made roughly $75M in interest alone, forget salaries etc.

The difference in getting paid $20M or $30M is roughly $6M after taxes.  Essentially what he makes in one month of interest.

Would you uproot your entire family, change schools, community, and leave your long time relationships behind to increase your net worth by 1%?   If you have $2Mil in the bank thats like moving across the country for $20k.  "Hey kids, we're selling the house. Say goodbye to your friends, we've got a shot at $20 thousand. What?  Oh no we'll never spend it, but...you know...MoNeY...

The guy is an egomaniac competitive freak who still feels he has "something to prove", which i find rather sad for a guy w 6 rings.  He's looking for a team that can get him to another superbowl, the money is meaningless.

Not so fast.  If the Brady’s are conservative investors, let’s dial that interest down closer to $50m for the year.  If we plug in life expectancy, we plug in whether he retires interest only, or wants to dip into his principal....bing bam boom...he’s probably ok but he’s most definitely going to want to downsize on the Uggs purchases, he’s  probably going to want to cut back on the manscaping around the giblets,  that sort of thing.

Can it be done? Yes.  Can it be done without sacrifice well that remains to be seen.

I love, love, LOVE that Brady is playing the Patriots.  I hope he gouges the hell out of them.

Ditto. I'd love to see them drop a big chunk of their salary cap on a declining QB.

Which would be awesome because they have a lot of FA's, but only $44,000,000 in cap space. If Brady eats up 30 mill+ of that then it would seriously impede them signing the rest of their key FA's.

I put that in the wrong thread and moved it to the Brady thread but I agree.

Moved mine over now as well

That would be idiotic. Classic case of paying for what a person has done and not what they will do. The NFL is about future performance not past performance.

Brady's 6 SB wins don't do the Raiders any good.

Except he doesn’t have a choice. As someone said, the money is of little consequence here. Especially with the offer being 30M, which sometime will easily beat. Kraft could offer 50M and Brady could still leave. I think the general consensus is if Brady actually leaves it is his ego wanting to prove he can win without Bill and end “Patriot Way”. No one is thinking it’s likely, but if that is actually true Kraft has absolutely zero say and no amount of money will alter that.

He’s not going to the raiders. That team is years a way from competing and most likely Gruden might get fired sooner if he doesn’t turn that franchise around. They need major help on offense and defense

Gruden isn't going anywhere, doesn't he have like a 10 year contract?  On a side note, I was in Vegas this past weekend, saw the Stadium, is it me or does that stadium look like a sh&t hole?  I mean I am sure it is awesome inside but from the outside it is downright ugly.  All black,  no character, I thought it would be a lot more glitzier than that.

Anyhow, this is going to be fascinating how this plays out.  On one hand, you know Kraft would give his left nut to keep Brady one or two more years.  On the other, signing Brady to an extension is everything against the Patriot way & how Bill likes to operate over the years.  His thought process has always been it is better to get rid of him a year too early than a year too late.  I keep hearing the Pats if they sign Brady are going to reload but where are they going to find the room under the cap if they give Brady say a 2 year $60 mil dollar extension?  I think he is as good as gone if BB has his way.

Gruden got a 10 year, $100,000,000 contract. Mark Davis loves him. He's not getting fired. I also don't think the Raiders are that far off from competing in the AFC. They have one of the best young RB's in the league, a solid OL, a couple of decent WR options in Williams and Renfrow, one of the best TE's in the league in Waller, as well as a 2nd TE who would be a starter on most NFL teams right now, and they have some legit pieces on defense. If they get a true #1 WR, a couple of solid CB's, and fix their LB corps then they are going to be fighting for at least a WC spot consistently (due to the Chiefs being in their division) even if they stick with Carr.

Brady to the Raiders does not make any sense at all. They don't need a hook to get people to come to games, and Tom isn't exactly mobile. This seems like Gruden is playing games with Carr.

Plus they’re on the hook on owing Carr a lot of money. I think his contract became fully guaranteed last year, if the raiders didn’t want him they should’ve traded him or cut him last year

Gruden is going to have to have 2-3 really awful seasons in a row before he gets fired. He stripped the team for parts his first year and won 7 games last season. He actually should be able to put them in a position to win at least 8+ games in 2020. They have 2 first round picks and 2 third round picks along with 60 million in cap space that could open up to 70-90 million in space depending on cuts and trades.

I think they are fully committed to Gruden for 2 more seasons before they even consider pulling the plug.

I don't know how the Vegas deal impacted the cash situation of the Raiders, but no way in hell Gruden getting fired before year 8 at the earliest.

I never said he was going to get fired in year 8 or 9 but possibly after year 9 of things don’t change he could be a goner. But then again you guys are right Davis loves him too much. Completely asinine to give him a 10 year contract lol. Marv levy was right about Gruden

It was reiterated to me, however, that this isn’t about the money for Brady. It’s about appreciation for what he’s done and can still do.

That appreciation can be shown as much by getting experienced, high-level talent around him as it can with a dollar amount. But the timing for that will be tough for the Patriots.

The past two seasons, the Patriots did little in the offseason to staff the offense around Brady. There were a variety of reasons for that but the final result was an offense that was frustratingly and increasingly punchless.

Meanwhile, Brady was underpaid relative to his peers. If he re-signs before free agency opens, he’ll again be taking on faith that the Patriots will get a surrounding cast that allows the offense to perform at a high level. The departure this week of legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia didn’t start things off on the right foot.

Free agency begins March 18. On March 16, the Patriots can start negotiating with prospective free agents. They’ll have two days to make headway on bringing in reinforcements.

It was indicated to me that this is for Bill Belichick and Brady to work out for themselves. When the Patriots agreed last August to not use the franchise tag on Brady in 2020, that was to ensure that any decision Brady made to stay was of his own volition. Why keep him against his will? He’s earned the right to decide to stay or leave if that’s what he wants.

It was reiterated that this decision – like the call to trade Jimmy Garoppolo in 2017 – is one that will ultimately be Belichick’s. There’s a presumption that owner Robert Kraft will swoop down from the rafters and overrule Belichick if the head coach decides it’s time to move on from Brady. That belief is fed by the lie that won’t die, the urban legend that Kraft forced the Garoppolo trade.

That didn’t happen and nothing’s really been done to correct the record.

The owner has declared many times he wants Brady to remain a Patriot. But my understanding is that, just as he wouldn’t force Brady to stay under a franchise tag, he won’t intercede if Belichick concludes moving on from Brady is the best course of action.

He can be dumped with only a $5 million hit. I don't think he will be though, Gruden seems to like to remind his QBs that they're replaceable as "motivation."

They are flushed with cash from the PSL's and season tickets scooped up by the casinos, they also have a ton of more opportunities with sponsorships from the casinos in Vegas and the new stadium. I don't think they would keep Gruden if he went 5-11 or worse three straight years. But I think that if he can float above 7 wins or not string together 2 losing seasons in a row he has a safe job there. I think it would be hard to justify him staying if he goes 5 or less wins three years in a row.

True. But I think getting rid of Carr for a potential washed up 43 year old QB makes little to no sense and could potentially set them back years at the QB spot. Gruden is terrified of drafting QBs cough Tampa bay cough. I would love it if they dump Carr and sign Brady to whatever ridiculous deal he wants and he ends up getting the fans hopes up and craps the bed. That would be hilarious beyond epic proportions
