Refs for the Bills game are... (updated weekly)

Note to the officals

#1.When a defensive player roughs the passer, no warnings are necessary, just throw the flag

#2  A player must first touch the face mask before a flag is thrown

#3 Tom Brady is not special, brushing past his jersey is not a penalty.

Week 17 - Jets at Bills

We last saw Rogers earlier this year, when the Bills played at Titans, back in October, winning 14-7. This crew seems to like to make it rain, throwing 11 flags at the Bills for 78 yards, and 8 at the Titans for 60 yards. A similar story the following week when they worked the Jets vs Cowboys game, Jets won 24-22. Jets got 8 flags for 105 yards, the Cowboys got 9 for 68 yards.

Look for a slow paced game with lots of flags this weekend.

  • Replay official: John McGrath
  • Replay assistant: Durwood Manley
  • Position changes: Rogers (FJ→R), Payne (LJ→DJ), Santi (SJ→FJ), Willard (FJ→SJ)
      Yrs 2018 crew College Occupation
R 126 Brad Rogers 3 Smith Lubbock Christian college professor
U 115 Tony Michalek 18 Hussey Indiana communications specialist
DJ 79 Kent Payne 16 Martin Nebraska Wesleyan teacher
LJ 10 Julian Mapp 11 Parry Grambling State project leader
FJ 50 Aaron Santi 5 Kemp Southern Oregon middle school principal
SJ 58 Don Willard 2 Hussey Illinois State medical sales
BJ 12 Greg Steed 17 Hussey Howard computer systems analyst

I have no opinion on the refs, but I sure could live without the Unsportsmanlike conduct for Phillips jawing at the ref, the Illegal Formation penalty (legit), and the two uncalled facemasks on Allen

#4 When a defensive player grabs the QB's face mask and wrenches his head to the side, that IS indeed a penalty, even if you think "he didn't mean it!"

The Jets are out of the playoffs and Gregg Williams has a reputation for coaching his players to go overboard.  I can see the Jets seeing the game as a chance to hurt the Bills' playoff chances by roughing up the skill position players on the Bills' offense.  I know McDermott intends to play starters for part of the game.  I hope Josh Allen, Beasley, Brown and Singletary will maybe play a couple series and then watch from the sidelines.  It would be nice too if  Rogers and his crew would call personal foul penalties against the Jets when the Jets commit them.  It may also help that Henry Anderson, a starting defensive lineman for the Jets, and a noted cheap shot artist, is on the injury report.  He's been a limited participant in the Jets practice sessions for the last two days.  Even if he ends up as questionable, the Jets may decide there not reason to risk more injury in a meaningless game, and sit him.

We never stood a chance with John "Steve Carell" Hussey. It really doesn't matter anymore who the crew is. Everyone is on Kraft's payroll.

I always took him for the guy that was Monk's rival Harold(had to google the actors name, but its Tim Bagley)

Image result for tim bagley

Third game this season with Corrente it looks like...

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/officials/CorrTo0r.htm

He was last seen in Pittsburgh calling a facemask on Edmunds who grabbed a man by the waist. Also called the Washington game

I remember commenting on officials after that game. Except for that facemask which was clearly unintentional it was fairly called game, which was strange vs Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Referee assignments are out for wildcard weekend.

Tony Corrente and his crew will ref the Bills Texans game.

His crew did the Bills Redskins game this year and the Bills Steelers game this year. (Both Wins)

Decent fair ref

Football Zebras actually has the full crew and apparently they mix the crews up for the postseason. So it's Corrente as the ref, but the other guys are all from a couple other crews. Assuming they grade everyone out and then re-assign for the postseason. http://www.footballzebras.com/2019/12/corrente-hussey-cheffers-and-smith-are-wild-card-referees/

Playoffs are supposed to be the better Refs.

how does Coleman IV get in?   Daddy still have influence?

Assuming there's something like 18 crews to allow for extras, he just has to be in probably the top half at his position to get playoff assignments. Considering how bad some are, it's probably not too hard.

Fixed.

FYI, there are no more "unintentional" face mask penalties.  You unintentionally get your fingers stuck in someone's grill, it's 15 yards.

While the “ face mask “ call was completely bogus( generated a lot of twitter activity during the game) and one of the worst phantom calls ever , Corrente is not terrible. He’ll have an all star crew , but his crew was fair during the season and didn’t throw a ton of flags. Bills-Redskins game had few called penalties overall. The Bills could do a lot worse. I’d prefer Vinovich or Blakeman, but Corrente wouldn’t be far off.

yep, agreed.  No Jerome Boger or Michael Scott look-alike (the guy we drew in the Wk16 New England game), and I’m good.

Maybe I did not express myself clearly but you misunderstood me. I didn't mean that Edmunds' FM was unintentional, I know he didn't even touch his FM. I meant that it was such a BS call that it was clearly just a huge miss by ref, and not a try to help Steelers.

For anyone following this thread who needs some clarification on precisely what each zebra is up to, here's a swell website that outlines the officiating team quite neatly. Plus, there are some cute little duckies on the header. Cheers!

What?  You must be thinking of a different facemask  because the one called on Edmunds wasn't even close to his helmet at all.  He grabbed the dude in the numbers.

Lol I already commented this two posts above yours. I meant CALL was unintentional (i.e. not meant to help Steelers), not the facemask - we've all seen he didn't even het close to his helmet. I was just trying to say that refs were fine that game except for this blunder.

Sure NFL, we believe you want competent officiating. Part time refs what a complete joke.

They do this bc it helps them steer outcomes under the guise of ‘poor officiating.’ And we take it as plausible bc we’re like, well he’s not even full time so I can see why he sucks at his job. The NFL: “Awe shucks what are gonna do, he had a tough week as an elementary school principal!”

This is is the truth and no it’s not a ‘conspiracy theory.’

Idk if you know this but that call was bogus - and there's no "unintentional" facemask penalty anymore.

See my 2 reactions on this above. I clearly suck when expressing my thoughts in English.

But you're saying that the call was unintentional.  I don't understand that.

The ref has to go through a series of steps to call/enforce a penalty.  I don't know how any of them can be unintentional.

They have to see the penalty.

They have to grab the flag.

They have to throw the flag.

They have to explain the penalty to the Umpire so it can be announced.

How can all of those things happen unintentionally, especially when it was abundantly clear that no one's facemask was touched?

Which part was unintentional?
