Mike in Horseheads
I enjoyed the game. Like the play during commercials on the split screen and the replay ref being at the site like someone said. I will disagree with you and will point out that to many guys losing 40 grand to show your abilities and potentially make a million is worth it. Also showed during game- more UFA in NFL than any round besides first. First impressions can change. BTW " your a damn fool Happy" love that movie as does my 13 and 8 year old who have seen edited versions. PromoTheRobot
Couple thoughts.  Good start for the league. Very respectable crowd in San Antonio. Noisy too.  Don't worry about two games on at the same time. The rest of the season games will be at different times.  I thought the pace of the game is a selling point. And considering these teams only had about a month to practice together, the quality of play was up there.
JerseyBills
I admittedly didn't watch the 2nd half , I went to my buddies to catch the UFC fights but overall I thought it was a solid debut with potential.. As this league grows, I think the player caliber will only get better. Players actually see a shot to get back into the NFL through this league. NFL scouts are already attending the games. Â Hopefully, high school players can eventually skip college if they want and go straight to this minor league. They can make a bunch of money and be put on a focused NFL development plan right away. QuoteTheRaven83
I don't see this league lasting at all. I think the purpose of this league is to test the new rules and see how those new rules would affect the game. I'd be shocked if it lasted past year 2 or 3. Rico
Going thru this thread, I am reminded for the first time in many, many years of the Continental Football League from back in the late 60’s when I was a kid. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Football_League Never saw a game, but I would read about them in the back of my Street and Smith mags. Pretty interesting names were associated with them, like Jackie Robinson.

Brianmoorman4jesus
They keep saying Birmingham has these old bill rights. My count was the have 1 former Bill. The SD team last night had at least 2 and I didn’t even go through their roster. The SD team had 2 guys that actually played and mattered a little for the Bills. Birmingham has a punter that was terrible and was cut 2 or 3 times.

I won’t pretend that most GMs could articulate the difference between the 160th best WR and the 190th. It’s just scheme fit, roster fit and familiarity at that point.  I suppose you could say the same about the 80th and 105th qb beyond you really don’t want to see them play while the other positions can blend in a bit more

The fact a game this weekend is actually on NFL Network is hugely significant. If the NFL buys into it as a developmental league, that's huge. Just Joshin'
This was better than expected. I would think interest will decline when the weak improves.  Some observations based on one game: » I liked the camera on the repay official. » QB play was poor. More work needed in practice. » OL play was poor. The defenses generally were able to push them around easily. » I was expecting more new offensive plays and pay calling. Seemed old school to a degree. » I did not miss the kickoffs at all. Thought I would but no. » Seems like quality coaches, refs need work.  Overall a good first effort. Hard to see the league doing well financially as football has such a high overhead.
