suorangefan4
Why the hell is it so hard for people to understand the difference between playing the Bears and Jets defenses? The Bills receivers couldn't get any seperation and they were dropping everything last week. Today the receivers were getting open and actually had room to run after the catch. Far different defenses. Barkley also has a lot more luck than Peterman. He threw two balls that should've been intercepted but the Jets dropped them. Peterman gets INTs that hit our receivers hands and bounce up and get picked. Even the 50/50 ball that Barkley threw to Foster down the sideline could've been picked. The DB had much better positioning but somehow misplayed it and let Foster jump up and get it. Peterman probably would've gotten picked on that throw and you guys would blame him but the crappy Jets DB screws up and Foster catches it and people act like it's a good play. I would've loved to see Peterman in there today. He hasn't been given a chance against a bad defense. He's been thrown to the wolves against the toughest defenses in the league with crappy receivers who have dropped passes right to the other team. Hopefully our coaching staff doesn’t coach what he did out of him. He seemed to just play. Not a robot doing what he was told. Had command of the huddle and winged it. This raises the question, does Barkley remain the starter and we go back to our original plan to let Allen learn from the sidelines the rest of this year? Or do we start Allen after the bye week? CincyBillsFan
Great game by Barkley. From a long term strategic standpoint this is a big deal in that we have landed our back-up QB for the foreseeable future. But for those saying he should keep starting my take is no way. Allen should be declared the starter for the Jacksonville game this week unless he regressed in his injury. Allen should be given as many reps with the 1st team as possible. In other news Petermen should be cut if Allen is ready to go. As an aside, I thought this was the game where Dabold pulled out all the stops and Barkley was clearly the beneficiary of the offensive creativity we saw today. the only caution I would throw out is that now that some of these plays are on film don't expect them to work as well the next time. The Jets to me looked like a defense that thought they could just show up and hold the Bills to less then 10 points. You just can't do that in the NFL. 13 minutes ago, longtimebillsfan said: This raises the question, does Barkley remain the starter and we go back to our original plan to let Allen learn from the sidelines the rest of this year? The give Allen a year train left the station in week 2. They must have unwavering commitment to Allen as the starter until they know for sure he's not cut out for it. HappyDays
1 hour ago, Kelly the Dog said: Barkley played well but it needs to be put into perspective. He got great blocking. About 90 of his yards and two of his most important completions he just lobbed the ball up in the air and Robert Foster timed his jump and caught the ball, something he hadn't done before. They weren't bad or great passes but Foster makes the play on both of them. If he doesn't, Barkley looks completely different. He threw two TDs. One was an excellent pass from ten yards out. Really nice. The other was a gift that any player on the Bills could have made. The Bills racked up 200+ yards on the ground. That helped him tremendously. He did well and I don't want to take it away from him. But this was a team win and team offense. He got a ton of help all over the field. On the other hand he threw a perfect TD pass to Kelvin Benjamin that was dropped, and the o-line looked good in part because he made good quick decisions with the ball. The fumble TD to Zay was a gift because he made a good read. How many times have we seen wide open receivers that the QB just didn't see? I get your point, for once our offensive cast helped the QB, but he wasn't playing with anyone special. Benjamin was still useless, Zay has played like that all year, and honestly I don't think the pass blocking was much better than it has been all year long. The run game opened up because our pass game was sustaining drives. Barkley had a ton to do with our 41 points today. I think fans are selling him short especially considering he's been here 11 days. 2

He's been thrown to the wolves against the toughest defenses in the league with crappy receivers who have dropped passes right to the other team. Peterman is unlucky? In that Chargers game he not only threw 5 interceptions but the Chargers dropped a would-be pick-six on the one drive where the Bills punted in the first half. He also fumbled the ball and recovered it on that drive!? The tipped throws people think are bad luck are really just poorly-placed and/or late arriving throws into high traffic areas that the defense can contest or easily create/collect a turnover on if the exchange goes poorly. These are low reward throws that just aren't worth constantly risking when the defense is squatting on those routes to begin with because they have no respect for your deep ball. Barkley doesn't have a strong arm but he's always had pretty good touch and timing on deep throws...........he was a vertical passer in a pro style offense at USC. Peterman came from a gadget offense at Pitt where his lack of arm strength and inability to stretch the field was mostly concealed.

HappyDays
I said this in the postgame thread too, we've been waiting more than 20 years for a franchise QB. A guy off the street joined the team 11 days ago, and with the same offensive cast that has been all-time bad he puts up 41 points. And fans are ready to bench him so Allen can get in one game earlier. I don't think Allen has earned that level of confidence, not even close.

Your post is excellent. You are astute. No one is saying that Barkley is a stud qb but what he demonstrated in this game is that if the qb plays competently it elevates the play of the rest of the offensive units that include the OL and receiving corps. What a refreshing change to see a qb be able to make quick reads and then quickly respond. McDermott added speed to today's roster and it made a difference. Foster and the new player from Denver were factors because of their speed. The player who has been playing well is Zay Jones. Again, this is another example that competent qb play elevates the rest of the unit. Now that Zay is becoming more of a factor if you look at McDermott's two combined drafts it is starting to look very good. Milano is the big steal in all of the draft selections. I'm not going to get carried away with this win against the spiraling down Jets but it has left me encouraged that the plan is being executed. And that bodes well for the future. 1
