I Bet $5,000 on Minnesota. Should I Be Worried?

Thanks to everyone who chimes in here.  Even those who called me an idiot for taking the bet. You made me laugh which is always good.   At the time I took the bet, I felt really strongly about it.  The more I thought about it, I get a little more concerned - especially the garbage time.

Sunday will be like the Super Bowl for me.  I might just try to watch the game by myself because I don’t want anyone to know how much I have riding on it.

this might not be a good idea. if you do decide to do this however, be sure and have someone else hid all sharp objects. we want you to be sure and come back here so we can all either laugh at you or commiserate with you.

:D

I did it.  I had the chance to bet a lot of money on the game and I did it.  Honestly I was really torn and I hate betting against the Bills but I had to do it.  I got a very attractive offer from a local sports book that I couldn’t pass up.

But I haven’t told anyone.  Not my boss, not my wife, not my parents etc.  Just this forum.  My wife especially would kill me if she knew I had $5,000 riding on football.

Since I made this bet though, I have been very nervous.  My stomach feels very uncomfortable and queesy.  I have not been able to sleep at night and have been dog tired all day.

But really I have nothing to be worried about right?  The Vikings are one The the NFL’s best teams and the Bills are not.  I figure that the defense will hold the Bills to FG’s and the MInnesota’s offense will score at will against our porous defense.  So I shouldn’t be worried right?

I mean I would feel better if it was just picking one team to win but they have to cover 17 points.  That one might be tough and i am sweating it out.

Hopefully I will have some nice cash next week and can put this one behind me.

Is this Schoop i heard he bet $5k against the Bills in another post here ?

The way I was thinking, based how the Bills played the past 2 weeks, I don’t see them scoring more than 6.  That means Minnesota has to score about 24 points which I think they can do easily.  I am predicting a 30-6 Vikings win

you should hedge by taking the over, because the Bills are going for 20+ points.

Dude I’d back out.  If the Vikings need to cover over 16 points you may get the very worst of both worlds, a Bills loss and down 5k.  If the Bills win maybe there is some solace to losing that kind of $$$.

Do you have that kind of money?  Did you ever see the movie Buffalo 66 and what happened to Billy Brown?  Albeit he bet on Buffalo.

Still want to see the Bills win but hope this works out for you if your being serious

People have asked the OP now about 100 times to tell us what odds he has, and he doesn't seem to want to do it.

Can someone who bets give us an idea of what the odds probably are?

The OP has bet $5,000 on the Vikings, and the Bills get 17 points.

So let's say Minnesota wins 52-3.  How much money is the OP going to get on his $5,000 bet?

I don't gamble and am just curious to know the odds we are talking here.

Win or lose you are betting 5k that your wife doesnt know about. It isnt like you have a 50/50 chance. Your odds suck of winning. I thought the Saints would blow out the Browns but they tied. Any given Sunday. All the Bills have to do is have a good defensive plan to keep the game respectable. What if the Bills pull off a miracle and win? Would you pay 5k for a Bills win?

Thanks.

So risking 5 grand for the chance to win $9,500 basically...while having to give 17 points in an NFL game.

No thanks!  I don't like it, even though I'm quite sure we will lose and probably badly...but I don't like the terms.

Wow that goes above and beyond the typical “emotional hedge” bet.  With that kind of money I’d be openly rooting like crazy for Minny. Good luck. Seems like a no brainer result on paper.. but the NFL is weird and we’ve seen really crappy teams cover big spreads in the past.

I never bet on a spread over 10 points in the NFL.  Never.  I would have done it with the money line though.

Money line is -2000 I think. Never seen a line like that. Unreal. +1000 for Bills

Can you imagine betting $2000 to win $100?

That said, I do believe our beloved Bills will lose by well over 17 points. Wouldn’t have touched it myself... but I think you’ll be ok.

Risking 5k to win 4500. You get 9500 back but you subtract your bet to calculate winnings.

Sharps were placing 7+figure bets on Mayweather at -550 I believe, not quite -2000 but a lock is a lock.

Cousins is a .500 quarterback with some pretty descent Washington teams- that would be the worry- the FACT that he's never played 3 good games in a row

But Buffalo may be so bad it won't matter, that being said when Cousins is bad he's unbelievable in what he does so yes I'd be nervous. If McD can fix  the D and Cousins is Cousins I honestly like the Bills

Cousins is awesome.     He has Thielen, Diggs, and Rudolph to throw with and an elite defense.     Line is high for a reason

I'm doing it too. Did it last week. Tried on Peterman week but I couldn't get Bovada set up. I'll PM during gametime so we can talk about all the money we're going to make. Or how amazing Josh Allen played as we lose money. It's a win-win. But so far I've just gotten money and no football satisfaction. It makes me feel empty inside sometimes.

If my wife came to me and told me she had placed down $5k on any kind of wager, win or lose, we'd be headed for a divorce.

You'll be lucky if she doesn't leave your stupid ass. (not you, the OP)

You would file for divorce over that?  You probably should not have gotten married....

Tlry is a weed stock that just got pumped from around 40 bucks to 300 in a few weeks with it going from 100-300 down to 120 from Tuesday until today.

Ok. But I bet $10,000 (not $5,000). Big difference.

I know, high rollers like you hate attention. I had a sneaky suspicion you were involved here. But if you’re planning to pay off your losses with Meadcoin, you just may be disappointed. Guido may be knocking at your door.
