I Bet $5,000 on Minnesota. Should I Be Worried?

The problem is that I really think the BILLS found something on the defense side of the ball in the 2nd half vs the Chargers.  Think about it if the BILLS score at least 13 the Vikings would have to score at least 30 for you to cover.

I still the Vikings winning but not by 17

This just seems kind of sad. I mean if the Bills do somehow pull this off this bet will probably cut down on some your excitement for that moment. Also there might be some guilt from putting yourself in a position to root against your team if they lose.

Think of it in a glass half full kind of way....it’s $5,000 you won’t have to split with the wife when she finds out and divorces you.

Did that cheer anyone up?

I did it.  I had the chance to bet a lot of money on the game and I did it.  Honestly I was really torn and I hate betting against the Bills but I had to do it.  I got a very attractive offer from a local sports book that I couldn’t pass up.

But I haven’t told anyone.  Not my boss, not my wife, not my parents etc.  Just this forum.  My wife especially would kill me if she knew I had $5,000 riding on football.

Since I made this bet though, I have been very nervous.  My stomach feels very uncomfortable and queesy.  I have not been able to sleep at night and have been dog tired all day.

But really I have nothing to be worried about right?  The Vikings are one The the NFL’s best teams and the Bills are not.  I figure that the defense will hold the Bills to FG’s and the MInnesota’s offense will score at will against our porous defense.  So I shouldn’t be worried right?

I mean I would feel better if it was just picking one team to win but they have to cover 17 points.  That one might be tough and i am sweating it out.

Hopefully I will have some nice cash next week and can put this one behind me.

You got a very attractive offer?  Translation:  I went to the sports book and bet the Vikings -17, just like everyone else that bet at that book.  It was -16.5 at a couple spots earlier today.  That’s attractive at this point.  Might even drop back to 16.5 before game time.

Not saying but I’ll leave you with this.  I stand to profit a lot more with this offer than I would with any books you can find online

Yeah pretty much

Dammit, I went to bed.  Slept for about 30 minutes and woke back up wide awake.  Have to be up in almost 5 hours.  Why can’t it just be Sunday already!?!?!?

Haha you are going to be cheering every Vikings TD, and getting pissed every time the Bills score...as a fan, that, alone, sucks...

I only bet against my team when attending games (any sport).

We win I'm happy

We lose I drown my sorrows with the winnings

As others have said, if your putting 5k on a game then you probably don't need to worry.

" Don't bet what you can't afford to lose!"

^ If you have done this your a loser regardless of the result

$5K is too rich for my blood (pressure).

Nevertheless, I wonder if all the guys who have criticized you for betting $5k on the Vikings would bet $5k on the Bills.

Under no circumstances would I bet a significant amount of money on the Bills. Maybe that gives you some comfort.

By the way, why didn't you get 16.5 points rather than 17?

Biggest reason you should not have done this.

Minny get up big game over they will pull their good players because of the short week.

Bills will cover because of garbage time points

Bibles of truth here, Maj.

There is no reason to pound on the Bills, an out of conference opponent.  When you are up by a lot rest your starters for Thursday, a likely critical game in the grand scheme of things against the Rams on the road.

Hope you have more than $5K in savings, because if the wifey finds out, the divorce attorney is going to cost you several times that....

Well I don’t think it would be quite that bad.  Yes we do have more than $5K but $5K is 5K.  Not like $20.  If I win then it’s all gravy but if they don’t cover the spread I will get nagged to no end.

How much could you make if you gave them 40 points? Go big or go home! You would have won a FORTUNE in our only other road game, so..... You could have been the only happy Bills fan!

So if you lose, are you going to share the bad news with your wife?  I really hope for your sake it is simply nagging you get....

I get pissed if I lose $100 at the craps tables or playing the horses, which is why I rarely gamble.  Just hate losing money.  Given the anxiety you are going through, I hope you think twice about making a bet like this again.

I’ll have to because she will likely notice when she checks our bank account.  Hasn’t happened yet but I am sure she will check before the end of the month.

Of course, I will.   I’ll have to come clean at some point either way.  But trust me, it will be much better if I win this bet
