Kelly the Dog
3 hours ago, dave mcbride said: Good piece, but this is why the grading system is flawed, especially for qbs: The greatness of Rodgers’ performance last night was in the intangibles. Recognizing the blitz, drawing the defense offsides, catching the Chiefs in bad situations and exploiting those scenarios with simple passes to open receivers. But you cannot — and we do not try to — quantify intangibles, or what comes pre-snap. Our system grades what can be graded — the execution of the play post-snap — and in that regard Rodgers did not stand out in the same way that his statistics did. Making a play and throwing a TD are each a very large tangible.

I'm just stating that he isn't even graded well against thew run, if you find somewhere that he's a good run stuffing DT than post it for all to see but you won't, nowhere on here does it state he is good and holding the point of attack. Have you? Dude, he's been well known in his career (since college) to be great against the run. And he can absolutely maul people and eat up double teams. He is a powerhouse. He is excellent at holding the point of attack. http://www.carolinahuddle.com/2017/08/28/carolina-panthers-star-lotulelei/ https://www.sbnation.com/2016/11/1/13486176/star-lotulelei-panthers-defensive-lineman-sacks-cardinals-hoss-of-the-week http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Still-a-Star-in-the-making/d497efb7-5a06-4f69-a8ff-42a6a9d5418c https://catcrave.com/2016/03/24/tbt-the-best-of-star-lotulelei/ http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2018/03/6_things_to_know_about_new_buffalo_bills_dt_star_lotulelei.html. Victory Formation
You don't sign a 5 year deal for 30 million, I could be wrong, but you would think that he would sign a 1-2 prove it deal if there was no market for him. 5 years in my mind means that he is being compensated nicely. MILFHUNTER#518
As splashy as this and other moves may be, I still see this as a calculated move. It's not just a splashy, name type of move, which we have kinda gotten used to. Like, " ...aww man! They just signed Mario Williams" or "... LeSean McCoy!" and gave them a hundred million dollars. No. They are signing guys that they know, and that they trust and that is a big thing. Guys that have been productive in their system, on the field. And guys that have been LEADERS in the locker room. They are STILL signing the same type of guys, you don't see them getting outside their "box." I like the fact that Kyle is coming back for at least a year, I like the signing of Star. I think they will get value picks later back in the draft to bolster the d and o line, add depth. I have no idea what we will have to give up to get into the top five, however despite all that I feel like we will still snag a d tackle early for the eventual retirement of Kyle, and get a linebacker as well. Doc
I'll trust (the process of) McD in getting the right players on defense. Last year it was secondary. This year it's DL and LB. In offense, besides Ivory, I don't know.

Do we know he wasn't taking on doubles regularly with Carolina? I honestly haven't watched enough game film to assess, but everyone saying he's flopped, have you? DT is a position where you can make significant impact without significant numbers. Given McBeane's history with Star, and the fact they clearly targeted him early, I trust they know and like the player. But when people made these points with Dareus they were to be ignored.

Man, those kind of articles make me cringe. Clearly, Carolina thought enough of him to exercise his 5th year option last year. Further, McDermott coached him as recently as 2 years ago. If Lotulelei’s performance had diminished that badly, McDermott would have surely known it. Id love to get an actual scout’s reaction to an article like that. 3 minutes ago, Turk71 said: I am not thrilled about the signing, I think he got signed because they know him like Tolbert.
