Kneeling 🧎‍♀️it down with 20 seconds left, one of the best QBs in thr league, and one TO

How many examples do you need to see where a team goes on a FG drive in ~20 seconds or less?

Our offense did it a year ago against the Lions. The Chiefs have done it to us (TWICE!). I'm sure there's more examples from just Bills games let alone league wide.

You 100% try to win the game there. It's not even a consideration.

Josh was playing great and the decision to kneel was one of the more cowardly decisions that our overly conservative HC has made.

And the exact sentiment of this board if Josh throws a pick. “We were playing so well, why not give yourself a chance in overtime, why put Josh in a bad situation, blah blah blah”

Nah…Losing happens. But this coach almost never makes the right win% call. That is especially true when he doesn’t have a timeout to think about it.

You know what else he leads the league in? Scoring touchdowns and before McDermott slowed the offense down allen also was one of the best in comeback wins and 4th quarter wins....what has McDermott done for this team that is even close to what allen does for this team? We can find ten more McDermott in 1 off-season bet we couldn't find another allen in a decade

McDermott has done a ton for this organization.   If you cant admit that then you're being incredibly myopic.   I wont argue that Allen is more important to the organization, that goes without saying.   My issue is, it is so easy for everyone here to say "we need to fire McDermott" or your "We can find ten more McDermott's in 1 off-seasons" and thats just not accurate.

Changing the coach after one down season just because maybe it will make the situation better isnt always the way to go.   What those of you who want him gone fail to say is, it could always get worse.   I've said it before 521 coaches have been hired in the NFL, only 6% of them have won a Super Bowl.  Its not that easy to hire a good coach.     FIre the guy sure, but dont pretend he hasnt done a ton for this organization.

No guts

No glory

Trying not to lose is not a winning mentality

The Bills won the toss this time but a possession in overtime is not guaranteed. How can you pass up a chance to win when you may not get another?

Needed 35 yards to have a long chance, 58 yds....had 2 possibly 3 plays to get there.

Inside I felt like they were gonna lose when they made that decision...I pushed it out of my head when they won the coin toss but it felt like a gutless and dumb decision.

Not sure why it’s not embedding. But it’s a tweet from Nick Wright, who I rarely agree with but:

”Still thinking about this entire sequence… First, McDermott uses his 2nd TO to “ice” a rushed kicker attempting a 59 yarder… then doesn’t let Allen, who was on an absolute heater, take at least one shot w/ :20 left, w/ a TO left, to get a chunk & have a shot at FG range.”

they can build a shrine to him in the new stadium for all I care… while hopefully a new head coach is leading us and actually, imagine this, giving his players the  best chance to win the game.

It was embarrassingly weak and incredibly stupid.

The Bills were a coin flip away from not even getting an OT possession and he's taking a knee....

yeah, that’s a good point as well.  We lose the coin flip, there’s a good chance we don’t  even see the ball again.

Getting a little sick of hearing  what McD has done for this team.   The 3 years prior with Marrone and Rex we were basically a 500 team, and they did that with Orton and Tyrod, they didnt have Allen and Diggs.   Marrone was 9-7 I believe, same as Seans first playoff year.    Its not like we were 1-15.   I would think the Bills would have the pick of the litter of new coaches.   How many head coaches never really get a chance when you draft people like Manziel, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Rosen, and on and on.   Get a head coaching gig with a very good qb, yeah coaches would want that.    Sean's had his chance, he comes up small when it counts, time for a change.

Idk what to say anymore… I’ve just come to the conclusion that Sean McDermott is a chicken *hit head coach… Playing 6 7 yards off recovers on 3rd and 4 when we need a got a have it stop… He’s a Dick Jauron 2.0

Its really not that complicated especially if you hadnt burned the timeout to ice the kicker like youre still living in 2002. You can run a low risk play to try to pick up the first 15 or so yards. If it doesn't work, you kneel it. If it does, you get aggressive. Hell you could have even run a draw and see if cook can pick up 15.

But the bigger deal to me was kicking the field goal in overtime. The eagles defense was just as gassed as ours. You could have picked up that first down. Josh was on a heater. You have the defending NFC champions on the ropes on the road without Lane Johnson. You have to play to win the game

I hated the decision to kneel it out.  For all we knew, we weren't going to see the ball again.  We wouldn't have seen the ball again if we had lost the coin toss.

I'm ready for a coaching change.

Because of the risk of interception and field position.

20 seconds isn't a thing.  It's hysterical to make it one.

And if it is intercepted then this thread has a different title and the coach is called a moron.

This is exactly what people mean when they say "playing not to lose."

(My apologies if a bunch of other people have pointed this out already -- I'm not reading this whole thread.)

To be fair, I think that timeout was more about making absolutely, POSITIVELY SURE that we only had 11 men on the field for that field goal.

Now the fact that was necessary, well... that's certainly not something to be happy about, lol

That sums up Sean McDermott coaching style he isn’t much of a risk taker he coaches to not lose but not to win it’s just who he is. Yes I wouldn’t trust a coin toss. If the Philadelphia Eagles win that coin toss and score a touchdown the Buffalo Bills don’t see the football. So yes I would have tried with Josh Allen’s huge arm strength to throw it as was as you can a 9 route with 20 seconds to one of the best receivers in the NFL with Stefon Diggs. Even if Josh Allen is picked off it’s like a punt with what 13 or 14 seconds left. The Eagles aren’t doing anything with 13 seconds so the Bills go to overtime at worse in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

Plus the Eagles dont defend the pass very well. Ridiculous, cowardly move when you have the strongest arm in football under center. Does anyone think that Andy and Pat would ever do that?

no way Allen was going to take this team down and score with 20 seconds.  We aren’t the Chiefs and don’t have Mahomes.  It’s impossible.

good reminder. But, Virgil, at Detroit Josh had :23 seconds (Bahahahaha)

:20

quitting just didn't make sense. Bad decision from the same guy that blew it with :13.

That guy is just is stuck in 1990's NFL.

Dude it should have been 3 TOs.  We wasted two while on D on the last two plays.  Eagles third down and Icing the kicker.

this team more than any other should know that 13 seconds is plenty of time.  20 seconds and 3 TOs is an eternity.

Absolutely this.

How on earth don't you at least try to get in FG range and let Bass kick 60 yarder if need be?

And there was no reason not to have 3TOs.

This the last straw for me. McD needs to go.

Honestly, as frustrating as it is, what impact did it ultimately have? We had plenty of chances to win the game in the 4th and couldn’t do it.

Would I love to see they trust one of the best Qbs in the nfl? Of course. But if they turn the ball over and gift the Eagles points, fans are killing him for that. I hate it but that is way bottom of the list of things that went wrong that game.
