They probably did but we just didn't hear about it because most news back then was primarily local. "National news" was limited to news about politics, international affairs, and the rich and famous. Back then, this story would have only made the newspapers and radio/tv news in the Boston area.

It's a reason to cut loose, have fun and such. Back when I was younger it seemed there were more people that would get drunker later on in the game. But first 3 quarters were fairly tame. Almost every game I went to the last few years I have seen people stagger in through the gate. My bet is the more the tailgating experience has grown combined with the absolutely ridiculous beer prices in the stadium more people focus on imbibing before the game. Of course after kickoff no one settles in and watches the game anymore either.half the game is spent with people walking back and forth up and down the aisle to go on beer runs, bathroom breaks and such. The in person experience has moved for watching a football game to a party with a game in the background. Make sure to take those selfies too, gotta get the perfect shot for your Facebook. I usually drive so i tend to not get hammered, but i'll have a few pops before i go in. Stop drinking at noon, order a chicken finger bucket, a water, and a cup of coffee. I will say i have had some rough experiences in the 300s, so i've been spending a bit more to sit a little closer. My wife (a pats fan) and her two sisters had beer dumped on their heads by the girl in the row behind them. I texted the hotline and they tossed the girl and she was NOT happy - but cmon now, be better. The young 20 somethings are the ones causing a lot of the ruckus i feel. Went to my first away game at arrowhead a year ago - nobody gave me a lick of trouble. They'd all joke that we were gonna get thrashed and embarrassed, but after that TJ pick they all sort of just shook my hand and left me alone. 1
