Just think of the extra money they'd have saved if they didn't keep putting band-aids on the Ralph & actually invested in a new stadium when it was semi-affordable.

Vikings: US Bank Stadium - $1.23 Billion (2021 dollars)

Colts: Lucas Oil Stadium - $907.6 million

Cardinals: State Farm Stadium - $612.3 million

Cowboys: AT&T Stadium - $1.64 Billion

Texans: NRG Stadium - $530.2 million

Falcons: Mercedes-Benz Stadium - $1.69 Billion

I'd say the sweet spot would've been around the last renovations deal, investing in a stadium like the Vikings' US Bank Stadium. It broke ground around the same time, and even with inflation cost just over $1.2 billion. Even with higher costs in NY compared to Minnesota, factor in all the costs spent on renovations & you're probably still coming out ahead.

Oh well, coulda-woulda-shoulda!

The state and the county are kicking in a combined $850M already.

If the Pegula's wanted one, they could make it happen.  Terry Pegula has a net worth of $6.7B.

A dome will allow lesser QBs to have the game of their life in the playoffs

Perfect weather can make any pro QB have a good game… Very few can come here in January and play well

That makes no sense.  Then why didn't Josh light it up against NE in those winds. It neutralized both qbs turning the game over to run attack.

We were never going to host a Super Bowl even with a dome. Not enough hotel rooms. Not even close to the amount needed.

Why do people keep saying this?  This is a nonsensical argument.

If Buffalo had a venue like that, which could host events year-round, more hotels would be built around it.

Oh for sure, I agree with you 100%

I'm just saying they should've bit the bullet earlier, & that $850 million would've gone a lot further, coupled with the money not spent on renovations.

Too cold?  Come again?  You do understand that's the purpose of an enclosed stadium, correct?

Super Bowl LII between the Eagles and Pats was literally in Minneapolis @U.S. Bank Stadium, my guy.

And you understand that having a venue where more events could be held in the cold season would lead to more hotels being built.

It sounds like you're trying to find excuses simply to not have one rather than giving real, valid reasons.

The superbowl is not just about the game. It is about hosting a ton of people in your city.

You said it was too cold, dude.  I'm just going to disregard everything else after that since it was such a ridiculous comment.

But you apparently also do not understand that if Buffalo were to have a venue like that, which could host events year-round, hotel chains would literally be falling all over themselves to build hotels around it.

Disagree.  Considering what the Pegula's were able to talk the State into kicking in, they could've made it happen.  Would've made the Pegula's open their wallet and pay more, but funding really isn't the issue. It's the desire to do it.

Wait, so now you're suggesting we need to play outside so we have some imaginary advantage in order to win?  LMAO

I think we're still waiting for you to name the games we won specifically because we played outside in bad weather and it gave us the advantage.

And FYI, the Super Bowl is always played in locations were it's assumed weather will not be a factor, so it's a true test of team vs team, not teams vs the weather.

I would point to the Divisional Round game against Baltimore.  Josh was a better passer than Lamar in that game and tried more throws than Lamar did (due to his natural arm talent), and we did a good job containing their rushing attack.   Plus two missed FG’s by Tucker!

the state requires it being a dome to be able to hold other events besides football.

they can hold..

final 4

major college bowl

presidential convention

super bowl

large conventions

That makes no sense considering Josh on average attempts way more passes than Lamar does in the first place.   Lamar only played in 12 games last year, so I'll use 2020 instead.  Lamar had 382 attempts on the season.  Josh had 572...nearly 200 more attempts. You've drawn conclusions not supported by the actual situation.

That literally makes the case for a dome/retractable roof because then the State and County are getting more use out of it then rather than just sinking hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into an open air football stadium.

Super Bowl week needs 25,000 hotel rooms. Metro Buffalo has 9,000.

And if Buffalo had a venue like this that could host events year round, Hotel chains would be falling all over themselves to build around it.  This is already a well-established economic development model.

And that article is now a decade old.  Pretty sure that number for Buffalo has increased by itself anyway.

I can't see that happening, even with a dome.

If we were to have a dome instead of an open air stadium, I fully believe we win an extra championship (I think we'll get 2 in the next 4 years), and Allen and the gang will have a historically good offense.

Say what you will about the history of the game, people being crybabies, blah blah blah. The cold weather is terrible. Playing in a controlled environment in Buffalo is what this board should be clamoring for.

Why is that?  It's a model that has been repeated proven all over the country for years, not just for Domes/retractable roofs. Large indoor venues in general.

Because Buffalo is not a destination market. Nashville is. Vegas is. Buffalo is barely a million people with no Fortune 500 corporate presence. I think we need a dome because it would guarantee attendance late into the season. (We aren't going to be Super Bowl favorites forever.) And we might get one or two national events. But we will never need an additional 15,000 hotel rooms.

Correct, but as was stated right in the article they are allowed to include NF, Rochester, Buffalo, and southern Toronto and at the time of writing the article that qualified as 36,000 rooms - plus unaccounted for rooms on the thruway south and east of Buffalo and along the QEW to Toronto.

The weather and the spread out nature is a bigger obstacle, but Goodell did state that similar to NYC - if that was a requirement for a new arena - the NFL would review the bid, but it would have to be a dome - they were not having a cold weather game like NYC again.

I still get it - it would be a long shot and the most hated venue - beating out the hatred of Jacksonville that had nothing going on, but the potential was there for discussion.

Now maybe privately they were told no way - so don’t bother and I would get that, but Hotel Rooms could be covered - the travel logistics and the spread out nature - with a large number being across the border in NF Canada was a bigger issue.

It is not a hill I will die on, but that piece was proven by the very article you provided.  They could have worked to force 1 like NYC and Jacksonville, but building a dome for that was deemed a waste.  Now if they had moved the stadium to the Northside using NF as the site or even downtown Buffalo with an enhanced Peace Bridge we were promised - maybe the dream could of come true, but not-in OP.

Yeah, too cold for all the people coming to your city, not for the game itself. Nobody wants to celebrate to frigid Buffalo in the winter.

And no. Hotels would not be falling o er themselves to build because of a few more events a year.

Then you have no concept of economic development. Too cold for people yet they had the SB in Minneapolis, where it gets colder than Buffalo.

And like I said, sounds like your goal here is simply to try and poo poo the idea rather than contribute anything constructive.

Every QB coming into the Ralph in January WILL struggle worse than Josh

he can cut it through the winds and others cannot … that’s an advantage

Did you watch the last last years wind game with the Pats? The Miami gave this year, several weather games the last 2 years? Sure Josh can play in the weather, maybe the others can’t? Imagine if he played as he did in LA this year all the time and didn’t have to fight the elements….food for thought.

There will only be a handful of open stadiums in 10-15 years. The team with the worst climate will be one of them.

Guarantee within 10 years of the new stadium being built there will be talk of what a mistake an open-air was

Again I’m not saying josh wouldn’t be amazing in a dome….

it’s about the other QBs being MUCH WORSE HERE

and that NE game WAS a once in generation game … we do not get 65mph gusts regularly

we do get 20-30 mph and josh cuts through it like butter … even in the wind game JA hit Diggs 50 yards downfield on a throw nobody alive could make but him … and it was dropped

I’ve always stood by that lots of QBs can play the game of their life in perfect conditions… that changes when they come to RWS in January

it’s about them being worse … I don’t believe a lot of QBs can come there and win in January

Understandable, I’m onboard with what your saying. Just don’t think it’s really that relevant, Lamar didn’t struggle in the wind game any more that others in the Ravens playoff game, sure there’s advantages. Just slight in this day and age. Don’t matter if Josh can cut through the wind or that WY weather prepped him some for the cold, if the ball don’t get caught due to frozen fingers or hurts to tackle, or the other fun stuff that players battle in weather. Pride only does so much, sooner or later the misery factors in.

I was thinking about this today after listening to some WGR talk about the new Nashville stadium... I thought, yes, Josh will be a bit worse in the snow but other QBs and WRs will be far, far worse because they don't practice in it or play in it multiple times a year (potentially).

So an open stadium will hurt Josh's stats but it might not hurt our win total, and may, as 716 says, actually improve our win rate in the winter.

I can’t even have this debate anymore. As much as I want a closed-roof stadium, we aren’t getting one. The best to hope for is one that really blocks the wind.

Winds over 20 MPH on the field Neutralize our home field advantage.

Not sure why anyone is comparing this to Buffalo…

This is 100% in regards to hosting multiple Super Bowls.  That’s not happening in too many of the cold weather cities.

well, if the Bills built a dome, they could actually host a SB. Detroit hosts all the time.

Okay Boomer. Amish ride horse/buggy.  Doesn’t mean it’s the ideal way to travel. It’s lame. Worst freakin wind, rain, sleet, cold around.

140 yrs? Have you seen how much football changed? Oh wait, you can’t see because boomer is reading the newspaper in his leather helmet?

Nice population drop!
