Look on the bright side. Whoever the Bills play on defense will get a good test as they go up against the Colts starting QB rather than the backup or a no-name scrub.

There might be a few first stringers sprinkled in, but it's likely to be mostly second string defensive  players for Buffalo going up against the Colts' first string offense.  I'm OK with that, but it's not going to give us a true picture of what our first string defense can do.   It will be about evaluating individual performances.

All you guys saying you’d be fine Josh and most of the offensive starters not playing a down in the pre season will be the first guys blowing up the game and post game threads when the offense looks like a rust bucket the first game against the Rams. Give me a friggin break, they all need some real preseason game reps especially considering we are playing the SB champs game one.

What about Keenum? How much time would you give him? If Allen doesn't play I would assume he will start. Maybe not a half but could see a quarter.

The entire first half. He needs his reps now, and then hopefully we never see him again after September 1.

Diggs didn’t play at all last year and Allen played very little in the 3rd game. I expect to see something similar this year. Maybe diggs gets a series since he was coming off the oblique injury last year. Miller played a little last year for the broncos but i would be surprised if he plays at all for us this preseason.

I don’t think lack of preseason football contributed to the Steelers loss.

It will be a good test for our backups and rookies going up against the Colts starters. As you mentioned evaluating these players is what's important here.

agreed. It was a tough matchup and the Bills didn't have a great game plan. Funny how the narrative changes... Plenty of people were predicting a loss to the Steelers prior to the game.

Yep we looked terrible against Steelers first game and that was at home. We actually looked terrible in quite a few games last year. Steelers, Jags, Colts, Titans...We're playing the superbowl champs in their building.

I've never coached football but I my assumption is that the booth would be better because you can see everything.

I wonder what the % is of coaches in the booth or sidelines.

I think some OCs really want that face-to-face with the QB on the sidelines...it probably depends upon if the OC has somebody they trust  (QB coach) who can serve that role during games.  I believe Dorsey will likely stay in the booth because Brady will be his guy for the 1-to-1 with Josh during games.

I fully expect the starters to play some in game 2 and a little more in game 3

Why? Didn't Rams sit most of their starters the entire preseason? These guys know how to play football and they practice hard. They'll be ready once the games start

I am 100% sure that a great majority of the home sideline will be made up of Buffalo Bills, or Bills affiliated employees.

If you can find a sportsbook with decent odds I'd bet that.

They could be a problem again this year.

Ryan is a better qb than Wentz on his worst day.

I think they walk away with the South.

With the moves Beane made this offseason our D should be much tougher to run against. I remember that horrible day last year. Taylor had well over 100 yards and 4 or 5 TD's in the blowout loss to them.  The game was basically over in the 1st half.

Taylor looked like a young Al Bundy that day.

It’s usually a team by team decision

With a younger quarterback the play caller Might be on the sidelines so he could talk with his young quarterback face-to-face… Help him through adversity face-to-face

A more experienced quarterback usually wants his play caller upstairs… From the booth you can see plays develop better… And get a better view of how to set up plays for later on

The last OC Calling plays on the field for the bills iirc was Nathaniel Hackett with EJ

@Royale with Cheese

After a quick search it does seem like Daboll did call a few games from the field early in Josh’s career

circa 2018-19

Yes I remember him screaming into Allen’s face on the bench

So Jeremy and Howard had a fun conversation yesterday sparked by the Chargers HC stated Herbert wouldn’t take a snap in the preseason nor has he ever since entering the NFL.

In addition, the Chargers HC said he’s not playing any of the starters who are veterans and Inam paraphrasing.  If you go on Audacy their show yesterday should still be there on demand.

They then as a fun exercise said who should McD sit as they already know what they have in these players.

Offense

Allen

Diggs

Davis

McKenzie

Morse

Dawkins

Defense

Von

Oliver

Milano

Edmunds

Basically the whole secondary except for Elam.

There is a small argument to play Allen a little on the 3rd game so Dorsey and Allen can get on the same page with play calling.

Personally, I agree except for Morse and Dawkins.  I see the value of getting our starting O Linemen gelling together for a quarter each PS game.

Starting RBs benefit from live action as they don’t get it in camp.  On defense there is value in Basham, Epenesa, and Rousseau getting snaps as they are still young.

What do you guys think about young guys and backups getting the majority of snaps, and the injury risk is too great in a year where we are hopefully in a SB run.

Love to hear you’re arguments.  Sure we are all excited, but I’m more excited about seeing our rookies and depth seeing what they can do in game time play.  I could care less if we lose all three games.

In 2020 we had no preseason and look how well we started that year.

imo, if Josh plays at all in preseason, it should be next week at home for kids day. WNY kids ❤️ their Josh!

What?  Please explain!

Hell yes.  When Josh fired that freaking laser to Ray Ray I was like, “not many humans can make that throw.”  It’s why all year long I shook my head at those who criticized Josh’s stats.  It was plain as day to anyone who wanted to see it that the kid was special.

Ditto. I was -well, rather adamant- proving all our naysayers here WRONG about their Josh decrees. 👍

Yeah, I definitely see how it benefits Buffalo.  But the Colts have a 37-year-old QB that they're banking on.  Yes .. he's been VERY durable throughout his career; but this is just playing with fire.

The only thing it can mean is that the offense isn't "clicking" yet, which is just fine by me.

Well, they (Frank) did Blow it Big Time investing their future in Wentz last year. For a while, Frank was on the Hot Seat after their season ended without a playoff game. Colts will feel this pain for years in dead money and lost picks cuz they ended up just kicking him to the curb after 1 year!
So they GOTTA be sure with Ryan. jmo

You're sold on Matt Ryan at his current age?

Not to say he won't be better than wentz.

But he looked washed up last year to me. (I know he had a poor o line and not a ton of help for him)

Just looked so immobile

He can probably still be an effective game manager type of QB. Besides that offense runs thru JT anyway.
