That's really the only hole in his game left. If JA17 can be consistent over a 17 game regular season there's really no more arguments in comparing him to Mahomes.

Everyone has a down game here and there but Mahomes has rarely had those outside of the SB loss to the Bucs a few years ago which is probably still his worst NFL game in his career.

He struggled this last season...

I actually think one of his biggest issues is not putting enough air under the ball on the deep shots. Specifically the sideline Go Route.  He throws these low angle ropes and if hes off on trajectory it sails 10 yards over the WRs head.  Meanwhile you watch a guy like Russel Wilson drop moonballs over the WRs shoulder and into a basket.  The moonshot gives the WR a chance to adjust speed and track the ball to be the in the right place at the right time.  Allen does well in deep passes like a Post where there is an X axis component but he has missed some huge opportunities on the vertical routes.

He continues to improve in ball placement on the shorter routes and is vastly improved at protecting the football on these passes, protecting his WRs, and giving them a chance at some YAC.

Right, I do think he needs to put more air on the long balls even though he has become relatively accurate.  I'm more referring to some of the post routes, I remember seeing quite a few that were thrown high BUT CAUGHT and in a few instances outright overthrown that led to interceptions, even though I think a couple of them there were miscommunications between the receiver and Josh.

Not even close to accurate.  After their first game Mahomes had a string of several bad games, at one point lost 3 out of 4 games and was a turnover machine.

I didn't want Darnold. He never looked comfortable at USC when he was pressured.

Rosen was my #2 after Allen.

I didn’t watch a ton of college football but I remember reading that Darnold had the highest floor out of any of the QB’s and that sounded good to me in 2018.   His attitude and work ethic always made him seem like a Process Guy too.

I’ll always wonder whether Darnold would have been the Bills pick had he been available.  I do think that after NYJ leapfrogged Buffalo for the #3 pick, they set their sights on Allen and he became “the guy.”  But was he their first choice for QB’s from the start?  Or he their first choice based on how they anticipated the board falling?

I've had alot of bad takes, but I definitely wanted Allen solely cuz hes a farm kid from California. But I got into and argument on this wall with a guy saying Rosen  and darnold are the only options. I had friends on the medical staff at ucla that had interactions with Rosen and they said he was a douche. And some guy on here told me I was just repeating rumors I read online and I was an idiot for thinking Allen over Rosen..... I wonder what that one bills fan would say now...

I think the next stage in Josh's development is with employing the no-huddle.  Taking command and bringing the team to the line quickly, calling his own plays.  Maybe doing that as a change of pace when he wants, to take charge of pace of game and personnel groupings.  I don't think that will be taught by Palmer but I would like to see the Bills staff work on that as a natural part of Josh's progression.

I think he still needs to work on his ball placement accuracy and skills.  On several occasions, his WRs have not been able to catch the ball in stride and continue for more YAC.    Josh himself had stated that in his last off season.  I think he still has quite a bit of work cut out there.

I think Brady and Manning have raised the bar.

Actually not so sure Josh is an much of a gym rat, workout maniac or health food nut.  Strong work ethic for sure, but there are lots of those at that level.

Guys like Derek Henry do insane things like special sleep chambers.  Jerry Rice was a maniac

No link, noting from Palmer....this might be a lame attempt at a April fools joke.

I also have a vague memory of him saying something like this. What he essentially meant - if I remember right - was that consistency is something he needed to work on and upgrade, that all great QBs have to have this. That great ones have to minimize bad performances.

Yeah, there are a ton of dedicated guys who push their bodies to extremes.  Josh though has (in my opinion) a really unique ability to self reflect and improve.  There basically has never been a QB who has changed his mechanics so drastically (and consistently). The guy is a unicorn in that regard. He also is probably a top 10 athlete to ever play the position, honestly.

as a Raw athlete, yeah incredible.

Trying not to be too much of a homer on the works hard bit.

He’s put in the work on mechanics but it’s hard to know how unique it is or if it was more publicized because of social media transparency and how late in life it happened or his technique was just so bad that the improvement was astonishing.

I’m still thinking his presnap reads have opportunity- still misses some blitzes and layup throws.

I’m also positive Brady and Brees were working mechanics just as much and perhaps even more nuanced and maniacal. Brady had his own qb coach too, but he didn’t share, then later his own Personal Trainer/nutritionist, etc.

You don’t hear much  about what mahomes does, but his mechanics are almost irrelevant.

I figured Darnold and Mayfield would be gone by the time the Bills picked, so that left me wanting Rosen. I didn't want Jackson because of the Tyrod years. I just wanted an NFL passer, not a running back who could also pass sometimes.

The media told me not to like Allen, so I didn't. I don't watch college, so I gain my opinions from the talking heads and watching highlights and stuff. They convinced me that he was too erratic and that nobody could ever overcome a sub 60% college completion percentage. They also talked up Rosen a lot.

The media also fell in love with Rosen's apparent social pedigree and "intelligence".

He’s dedicated to his craft, no doubt.  However, he hasn’t been a fitness freak or for that matter that dedicated to having a great diet.    Allen has alluded to this and it looks like something that he is considering in regards to having a well-balanced diet and O believe he said he was considering a full time chef to help him with these goals.

I think he needs to do this soon if he wants to extend his career, Brady did it and I think it would be smart of Allen to emulate it as well.

Say Wat?

Rosen was mercilessly criticized and put down in the media for his off-field antics that indicated a certain degree of entitlement (setting up a hot tub in his room) and willingness to be abrasive with his personal political views (wearing a F*** president's name cap).  There were also rumors and questions about his intangibles - his leadership in the locker room and abilities to get along with others.

Where he was praised, was not for his "social pedigree", but for his actual on-field football performance with St John Bosco (5 star recruit) then with UCLA, where he set records for 300 yd games and at one point, led the nation in various football stats.

If his actual football skills and football IQ had translated to the NFL, I'm sure he'd still be criticized and dissected for his off-field deportment, fair or unfair.

But they didn't - the day of the relatively immobile pocket passer who can throw beautifully when on-platform, may be done

He waited this long to start training again?!?!? That is why he doesn't have a 500 yard passing game yet.

Right? Gets the big contract and immediately puts it in cruise control. Maybe Josh is the veteran they're lookin to unload to move up in the draft and create cap space?

Rosen should be very familiar by now with breaking down his throwing mechanics…why not teach others the same things coaches are trying to pour into him? :D You know what they  say about those that can’t…

Let's here from......Jordan Palmer!!

"I've said this a bunch, Sam is one of the best young quarterbacks in this league," Palmer recently said on an appearance on ESPN's NFL Live. "He has everything. You talk to smart coaches around the league, Sam is one of those guys that they put in a different category. It's just going to be a matter of time for him.

"Last offseason, he had an unbelievable offseason," he said. "He laid out a plan with his coaching staff and he checked every box. Then the mono thing hit, there was a new coaching staff, so with Sam, I don't think that he has to make any drastic changes to what he's doing. I think it's just going to be a matter of time until things click. People are healthy, guys know the system and he'll explode.

and...

"I've been around Josh (Rosen) since HS. When I look at Josh, from a talent perspective, talking to a lot of folks, it's pretty unanimous across the board, this guy mechanically is really clean. I think Josh is going to be a phenomenal player."

"Jordan explained that when Carson Palmer studied Rosen film before the 2018 draft, he came away comparing him to Tom Brady in how he is decisive, gets rid of the football quickly and pushes the ball down the field."

lol--the Jordan Palmer hype machine (here) never rests.

Ended up reading your post not paying attention to who it was, got to this point and "Hmm I bet I know who this is." scroll up "Nailed it."

I'm sure Jordan Palmer is sorry for kicking your dog/sleeping with your wife/whatever it is he did to you, really need to let this go.

Also I'm not sure how what the first thread talking about Josh starting to work with him this offseason constitutes a never resting hype machine.

Josh works with Palmer every year, and he's been really good the last two years so I don't see why he should change his routine now.

Perhaps it's partly attributable to the fact his quotes regarding Darnold and Rosen were early in their careers.  After your last car purchase, I am sure your salesman shook your hand and said you were a great guy, then thought to himself "Thank goodness that rectum's gone." when you took delivery of the vehicle.

The Darnold one is going into year 3 with that Mono reference. Palmer talks up all of his clients, at the same time he does say Josh is the most talented player he's ever seen at the position.

Anyway, I don't "hate-on" anyone because I was in my teens many decades ago, when that might have been a thing.

Annual Jordan Palmer threads, in my opinion, are odd.   Clearly, the guy is a shrewd businessman, I do give him that.

Agreed.  I doubt Palmer would consider it 'good business' to come out and emphasize a player's weak points in his critique of the player when talking to the press.

Well yeah, that's the point:  many were "wrong" when they assessed those guys early in their careers.. I thought it was interesting that someone would post "how can so many professionals be so wrong"...in a Jordan Palmer thread, when...

...one of those "professionals" is none other than Palmer.  But he may have just been pumping clients of his.

So it's gone from a never resting hype machine to an annual thread...huh neat. But honestly this thread is only vaguely about him it's mostly about Josh doing his offseason training routine which happens to involve Palmer.

At this point Palmer gets more out of being associated with Josh than the other way around, not sure him being paid to work with him has much to do with it anymore. Also we're on a Bills message board of course we're saying that.

Not sure what being paid to work with it has to do with it?  You somehow say this after reading his comments on previous clients.

Again, the guy is a businessman.  Him posting (and Bills fan boards reposting) his association with his top client (left) is good for business.

Palmer has been the most instrumental person in Josh's success, after Josh of course.  His issues were with his mechanics, specifically correcting them and making them consistent.  The mental stuff, which the other guys lack, was always there and not something Palmer could give him, or the other guys.

Read the actual thread, there's essentially been no real focus on Palmer until you made it a thing...so congratulations I guess, never suspected that this was all a subtle ruse by Palmer's #1 fan.
