Do you think if dolphins would have offered 2 million a year more Von would be a dolphins today?

One hundred percent. I don't think he was going to leave any money on the table to come to the Bills. He didn't do it for the Rams. Assuming you don't agree, what makes you think he'd have done so here?

Props to dad for seeing things clearly. It was the smart decision.

We can be competitive with the Jamison Crowders and Duke Johnsons of the world, but for superstars we have to pay the Buffalo tax.

The dude just came from LA/Bahamas/Miami to cold, lonely, and barren OP for a photo op. We needed to offer more than Dallas and LA.

There is no “buffalo tax” anymore.

BUT, it felt like he was gonna cry that he had to leave LA. I suspect he will love what the Bills team and fans offer in many ways, and after he collects all those dollars LA is more likely to be in his future than WNY.  (I’m NOT blaming him.)

He will be a serious pro, but he came off as disappointed and going for the money, IMO.

iirc, he was the exact same way last year when departing Denver for LA. ‘I may be playing in LA but I’ll always be a Bronco’. 🤷‍♂️

For the most part, this is true.

However, for this situation, where we're talking about leaving Los Angeles, CA and a team that is the defending Super Bowl Champions - I don't care how good we've been, you're going to need to outbid them to convince someone to leave that and come here.

Though I don't know if it would be fair to call that a "Buffalo Tax". Because it'd be the same thing for literally any other team in the league that wasn't the defending Super Bowl champs from LA.

That was interesting...you only see what is in the video buy my impression is that Von was solely focused on year and total contract value.....6 years 120 million for an average of $20 million per year. He totally reacted to that...but its not real.  The last year is 30 million salary at age 39 with $0 dead cap.   He will never get all of that and I am surprised he was more focused on that than the guaranteed part and the structure.   We never saw other offers but I thought his agent did not do a good job of explaining the contract to him in the video.  I say in the video because there were probably other conversations we did not see.  But if I was him, I would want to know about what is guaranteed and when.

yes, slightly overpaid, but Von knows this, and knows there is only one reason the  Bills made this offer.  I think the overpayment will increase Von’s level of commitment to extend his HOF career and be worth it.

I'm not sure.  He liked the Rams, the city, etc.  He might have stayed there if we hadn't offered what we did.

Felt like to me Josh got asked to call Von Miller and recruit him so he did because that's cool, but him being on the defense not sure he knew what to say.

Well, he could've acted more excited when Von Miller was talking about going to the SB. He could've talked up the team and players a bunch. He could've talked up Von himself. But like I said, Josh was playing it cool.

He basically said "Cool Von. Maybe you come, maybe you don't. Whatever, it'll be fun."

Von did all the talking up to him, not the other way around, which is great. This is Josh's team and they're confident. They're not begging anyone to come like Judon and the Pats.

They're not dependent on Von or any other star, but it's the perfect place for Von to provide help and further his own legacy.

I think you underestimate how many of these calls Josh probably does every offseason. 90% of which probably lead to nothing.

Also, Josh is a top echelon QB. That's higher status in the NFL than even a HOF DE. I think you just heard a typical call between two guys who don't know each other and one guy has a bit more money and status than the other guy.

Definitely not. I'm completely correct.

Josh convo felt stilted...  Clearly they didn't know each other.

i think its because JA knew he was being recorded.

As discussed upthread, we got laws about that.  That appears to be why with McVay we only hear Von talking and not McVay.

One poster talked about getting JA's permission to use the audio, which must have been granted.  I say that's incorrect. It is illegal to record without knowledge and consent.  That consent must be obtained before recording.  That's because the illegal act is recording, not just possessing a recording, or publishing a recording later.

That said, I also like JA's demeanor.  If you come, cool. If not, best wishes.  I think JA cant act like this is the one piece we need to get over the top, when he shares the locker room with the entire Bills' defense: JA cant blame our failure on his defense, and certainly not pubicly.

And even Von said himself at the intro presser:  'y'all are winnin the superbowl without me anyway'

Papa Miller is now a folk hero in Buffalo.

To the victor go the spoils.

The Pegulas should invite Daddy Miller (IDK if still married so wife too) to their suite for the home opener.  Something to recognize how special and appreciative we are for his sentiments.  Maybe one of those pregame interviews on the CBS  as it would go over so well nationwide.  It would also reaffirm Buffalo is a destination city now.

"Von Miller to the Buffalo Bills?  How the hell that happen?  6 years $120 Million?"

😆 Exactly!

Heard Buffalo Fanatics podcast go on about the money angle as well… but wasn’t it reported that the Rams came close on the money?  6 yrs/120 is fluff, but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard LAR got close on the guaranteed money.  Not where we were, but not too far off.

The Bills being a good team didn't hurt either, but his agent made it clear this was his best offer and it was "everything we had talked about."

The money, on top of everything else Von may have been considering, definitely tipped the scale.
