Buffalo had the hardest path to the Conference Championship, but won't get any credit for it

Recommended Posts

I really want Mahomes back and at full strength.  I want him back because I think we can win.  Beating the Chiefs without Mahomes is just going to set up a ridiculous narrative going into the Super Bowl that we didn't beat anyone to get there.

The truth of the matter is that the Bills have had the hardest path to the conference championship of all 4 teams by far.

The Chiefs had to beat the Browns.  I'm sorry... the Browns are improved and all... but they're the Browns.  And they had a hobbled Myles Garrett.  The Browns finished the 2020 regular season as the 18th best team in terms of DVOA according to FootballOutsiders.

The Bucs had to beat the Washington Football team that had a losing record during the regular season and then a Saints team with a QB who obviously had one foot out the door and deteriorated abilities.  Plus, it was the 3rd time playing that same team, so plenty of game film and up close experience.

The Packers beat a warm weather team in the cold of Green Bay essentially without its best player on the field.

Buffalo is the only team of that bunch to beat not just one, but two teams in the top 10 of FootballOutsiders DVOA.  And that was just a totality of the season as a whole... the Ravens were playing as one of the hottest and most intimidating teams in the NFL.  And let's be honest, we handled Indy pretty well.  Yes I realize it ended up being a 3 point game, but we were up by 14 early in the 4th quarter and kept that lead.  And for as much as a lot of people are pointing to the Tucker FG misses... our FG kicker missed 2 FGs, too.  And if the wind weren't there, maybe the FG misses don't happen... but I also bet that Allen hits on at least 1 or 2 of those deep passes he missed.

The fact is that we handled 2 of the better teams in the NFL to reach the Conference Championship game.  And we can absolutely beat the Chiefs at full strength.  And then we can absolutely beat either the Packers or Bucs at full strength.

This Buffalo Bills team has played and beaten tough teams throughout the year.  And these first 2 playoff games were wins in wildly different ways.  In the Colts game, Allen took over.  We don't win that game without him.  In the Ravens game, our Defense took over.  That's something no one thought they could do.

Bring on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Arrowhead stadium.

I want Buffalo to beat the best to be the best.

I dont give two craps about who plays for the Chiefs and who doesn't.  A win is a win and a superbowl appearance.  Win the game thats all I care about.  The media can continue to talk about Lamar Jackson to death while the Bills win the Superbowl.  Don't give a crap.

Doesnt matter the excuses are all ready set for when the Bills Win. But but but Mahomes was INJURED and shouldn't have been out on the field. That KC beat themselves and the Bills didn't win . That Pat's bad game wasn't because of the Bills defense but because of his concussion or it was his toe  lmao

I don't get where the "they get no credit" narrative comes from. Everyone I watch, read and listen to is giving the Bills a ton of credit and deservedly so. There is that bozzo Nick Wright who likes playing a WWE heel type character but who else isn't giving them credit?

Poor naive Putin. Do you really believe that?  When we beat Mahomes, everyone will say, "oh, it's because he had a concussion and/or missed practice time because he was in the protocol, and/or his toe hurt, or the sun was in his eyes, etc etc."  and even then, if we get to the Super Bowl and don't win, they will say, "see, I told you they didn't belong."  The only way to shut everyone up will be to win the Super Bowl, and even then there will be excuses.

Night before the Superbowl, Rodgers wins MVP.  The next day Allen leads Buffalo to the Superbowl win.  Allen wins Superbowl MVP.  The Bills beat the last 3 consectutive MVPs in 3 consectutive games.  That leaves no doubt.  I think this week on defense White and Oliver both make an impact.

For whatever reason, some fans love to pretend to be victims. They focus on what one idiot says and pretend it’s the national narrative.

Not sure what we deserve credit for. It’s the playoffs and playing good teams is to be expected.

I don’t care if every team left gets ravaged by COVID and we beat Chad Henne and Blaineg Gabbert to get a ring.

Narratives don’t last. Rings last.

To a certain degree they do.

But I think this is a multiple Super win Bowl team.

I will obviously take a win against a Mahomes-less Chiefs, but beating them with him under center would be more meaningful.

Plus we don't get a ring for winning the AFC Championship game.  We get a ring if we win the Super Bowl.

I think this team is more like the 80's 49ers and 90's Cowboys than the one-off 2003 Bucs, especially now with Daboll and probably Frazier back again next year.  I want to go into Arrowhead and beat the Chiefs as they are.

Can you post me a link to more than one article/video with people praising the Bills for having the toughest playoff path among the teams remaining?

Just win man. In 5 years no one will care about story lines or narratives or what ESPN said or didn’t say. The noise is just that.

I guess if you only watch local or bills sponsored media you can have this experience.

Any national media this is not the case. Even NFL network all the talk is about the packers, chiefs, Bucs

Why is that important?

Also, it's worth noting that the Bucs lost to the Saints twice this year.  You left that out.  Also, the Colts were the only team the Steelers beat in their stunning (1-5) end of season collapse.  Also, "the Browns" beat the Colts.

Can I find an article making this one specific point otherwise it proves the Bills don't get any credit? That doesn't make sense. You know that, right? In the last fortnight I have read FMIA, MMQB and The Athletic all write in detail about the fantastic work McDermott and Beane have done and the development leap Josh has made and this playoff run being the culmination of that. I have watched Chris Simms talk in depth about how well they played Saturday. Mooch talked on Sunday about the great coaching job by McDermott and Frazier. We had Brian Baldinger on the UK broadcast saying the Bills were great.... I don't get it. Who are the people you want to give the Bills more dues? Is it the people on those shouty table programmes? Is that really what we are talking about? Is it Skip and Steven A? Nick Wright? I mean come on. Why do we take to heart what those sorts of clowns say?

I saw it. I have no idea who any of those 4 people are. Like genuinely is that who we are getting ourselves worked up over?

It is ESPN isn't it? We don't get ESPN over here. It looks like I am not missing much just a bunch of non entities shouting over each other. Almost every time I ask a Bills fan this question the answer is something off ESPN.

My advice to you folks..... cancel your ESPN subscription and spend it on something worthwhile. There is a lot of great football content out there that is insightful and objective and in depth and you can learn from. Watching ESPN coverage is just asking to be enraged by stupidity by the sounds of it.

it's time to not only avoid reacting to the loudmouth guys like Steven A, but also the fans that need to constantly feel so persecuted. I just watched a great segment on NFL network, all 4 hosts were so excited about the matchup, one guy said Allen is playing better than Mahomes.  Great example of Buffalo whining, Collinsworth getting grief and he's done a few games recently and has been gushing over the entire organization and fan base. But he still gets crap from some. It's like they don't listen to anything he said.

We actually had a poster here on Sunday morning complaining because Collinsworth said Lamar Jackson 14 times and Josh Allen only 12 times during the course of the broadcast. Seriously. I mean grow up.

How? He is saying beating the Chiefs without Mahomes will set up a narrative that we didn’t “beat anybody.”

Like that is fundamentally not true. We already got praised for beating our other two opponents. It is fundamentally untrue.

Actually, the Bills aren't really getting the credit the deserve, but I prefer it that way.  All the talk is literally around all 3 teams but the Bills.  Even on PTI the host couldn't get them to talk about the Bills and called them out for it.  The more popular consensus is that if Mahomes plays, Chiefs will go on to win the SB.  Yes, they do agree we probably pose the biggest threat to them, but like 90% of the talk about this upcoming game is around the Chiefs and what is at stake for them.  Just like most the talk after the Ravens game was more about Lamar, Tucker, and the Ravens.

But for me...I love that they aren't.  I think drives and fuels this team.  They love being over looked, under estimated.  They are hungry and play with a chip on their shoulder.

For me...I really want Mahomes to play.  I want to dethrone the champs when we win the championship, and if I am really getting my wish, we will go on to face Brady and crush him on the biggest stage.

Yea. If Mahomes doesn't play Sunday it is probably a story in the build up to the Bills playing in the Superbowl. It might linger into the dead months of the offseason "ah but what if they played Mahomes?" By this time next year? Ancient history and absolutely nobody cares. All that matters is who hoists that sticky Lombardi.
