Draft Season: Biggest misses

Recommended Posts

With the draft around the corner I thought this would be a fun thing to do because everybody likes to talk about how often they are right

But what about your biggest whiff

Who did you like so much that ended up being a dud?

In all my years of scouting my biggest whiff is that I was huge on Brady Quinn

He had it all ,the size ,leadership, intangibles toughness, good arm. Then the browns happened

I thought Pat Mahomes would bust. Strong arm, physical, but inconsistent accuracy and decision making and he played in an air raid offense in college. Credit to the Chiefs for being patient with him and turning him into the most exciting player in the league.

Loved Rosen. Still do to some extent, as his circumstances have been about as bad as imaginable. But he certainly hasn't produced at this point.

Im guilty on Rosen as well...

I’m starting to think I need a new profession.

2015 - Way too high on David Cobb (Minnesota RB), Kevin White, Devante Parker, Maxx Williams (Walford and Koyack also crashed and burned, RIP my credibility). Xavier Cooper, Owa Odighizuwa, Paul Dawson, Hayes Pullard, Eric Rowe. Best player I was way too low on, probably Jamison Crowder.

2016 - Most of the WR class, if I'm honest. Stephen Anderson (Cal TE), Landon Turner, Noah Spence, Bronson Kaufusi, Jeremy Cash, AJ Stamps. I was a lot lower on Buckner, Hunter Henry & Jack Conklin.

I'm not going any further or I'll cry :D

I haven't been doing this a super long time, but a couple recent ones that aren't off to good starts are Quinnen Williams (who I thought was pretty much a lock to be a beast, though I'm definitely not out on him yet) and Stanley Morgan (who I think was like my #5 WR in the class last year and I believe was a practice squad guy all year. The latter seems pretty likely to be a mistake. We'll see with Quinnen.

In terms of being too low on guys, Calvin Ridley comes to mind.

This is mine too.

The other one that springs to mind is Corey Davis the receiver the Titans took. I was convinced he was a #1 guy.

I think that i need to own this too. I really was sure he was going to be, at worst, Andy Daltonish. I thought that he had a high floor and high ceiling. I was so pissed when they said “Allen” instead of “Rosen.”

I still think he was a better fit for what Daboll ideally wants to do on O than Allen, but Allen has progressed very well so far.

Mahomes was mine as well.  I thought his footwork was bad and he was too sloppy with the football.  Add that to coming from an air raid offense and I was sure he would bust.  I

I didn’t have any definitive opinion on mahomes as a draft pick but I’m certainly surprised how good he became based on where he was coming out of college. He was considered a project.

I was on the opposite side. I knew deep down that Rosen was fools gold, and that Allen was going to be amazing. I had Allen/Darnold/Mayfield all as my 1abc

In terms of a Bills pick I was really wrong about I loved the Shaq pick and I saw him as the player we saw in 2019. If we had got 4 years of that level of play and production would have been a really good pick and he'd likely still be here. Sadly we didn't.
