ALF
Once the 17-game schedule is implemented (as early as 2021) it will also reduce the preseason from four to three games. In 2019, there were five international games staged by the NFL. Now with 16 more regular season games to be added as soon as 2021, the new CBA allows for a maximum of 10 games to be played outside the US during the regular season.

Wouldn't want it to expand again but I am fine with this plan. The 17th game I am more on the fence about. Usually it is worse teams that miss the playoffs. Occasionally you have a good team miss. The quality will absolutely go down and it will become more common for .500 teams to make it. Perhaps we'll hear something about the owners' intentions in the near future, now that the CBA has been settled. All I can add is I read there is a "media kicker" that will increase the players' share of revenue from 48% to 48.8% if the TV contracts increase by a certain amount. And according to what I read, none of that increase can be affected by the stadium credits given through the stadium construction program (G4). So I have to assume it's still there, either the same as before or something similar.

If I'm reading things correctly there will be a bye week after the 3rd preseason game. Not quite the same thing but they'll have an extra rest day before the season starts. I like the changes they made to the active roster. Teams get one extra offensive lineman and one other extra player on game day. They can also call up 2 practice squad players to the roster each week, and a player can be sent back to the practice squad twice without being subject to waivers. So there's moe flexibility there. Hate the dilution of the regular season by playoff expansion. It's not neutral sites. Each team will play 1 more game against the other conference (AFC plays NFC) and each year they alternate which conference plays at home. So no team in either conference plays more home games than anyone else in their conference (ie it has no effect on playoff seeding).

It would be rare for a team like last year's Steelers to get in. Most of the time the 7th team is pretty equal to the 6th team, sometimes better. Like 2017 when the Bills made it over Baltimore and San Diego. But let's say Ben Roethlisberger would be healthy for the playoffs. Sometimes injury makes better teams worse. KD in CA
I love that there's no risk of a stoppage and certainly prefer an extra regular season game to a pre-season game, BUT, I hate the idea of only one team getting a bye. Way too big of an advantage IMO. The best playoff format was 3 divisions and 5 playoff teams per conference. Divisions were harder to win, all division winners get a bye, first round was just for the wild cards. I wish they would go back to that. Baseball has it correct now, but of course they'll screw it up soon enough. 1
BuffaloBillies
3 pre-season games is just right. First one the team gets their feet wet. Starters play the first half of game 2. Game 3 the bubble players fight it out. Always hated the fear of injury with 4 games.

First Round Bust
the additional playoff game was not an issue with the players; all the major sports are trending to make the post-season more inclusive ,and given our playoff history we as Bills fans should welcome our increased opportunity to watch our qb throw a bomb to our fullback in double coverage. This has kinda been the case with passing in general over the last decade or so. They've made it soo hard for defenders during this time that passing stats aren't what they used to be. Look at guys like Stafford, Rivers, Winston, Ryan, Goff etc etc etc... this list goes on and on. Look at the numbers these guys put up, none of which I would consider elite yet seasonal numbers dwarf some of the true greats. Let's not even look at the receiving numbers guys have put up either. We'll get over it in time and we'll all have all these things to argue about for years to come. ?
